Thank you for subscribing. I grow lots of leeks for stock for future years. I’m constantly looking to better strains to make sure we keep improving at top shows. Keep the questions coming.😄
Hello Bob, I have a few onions left but there in 6 pack and can not be posted, but if you can collect then that is fine. Give me a call on 07739647166. Thanks John .
Very nice video John and all looks great, so thanks. I'd leave the onion pips alone as they will push through, nature takes care of that. Need to remove outer skins later on. Set my seeds On Friday, will set some more mid November
HI John Great update mate, really enjoyed it. Biggest Onion I have grown weighed in at just over 5lb I been using Ailesea Seeds. I converted my attic into a grow room and just updated to Spider Farmer lights, but one the plants are ready to go out that is where I lose out. I only have small greenhouses and they are for my tomatoes, Chillies and peppers plus I think it would be too hot to grow onions in. Take care. 👍👍👍👍👍
Great to see how people grow leeks at a lager scale new to growing and have been super interested in lager leeks and onions never knew about growing leeks the way you have shown here in the video from the heads
Another great video thanks John great reference to the cost of using lights I use the T5s interesting you put them on for only 8 hours would that be every day till when would you shut them ie which month thanks by the way I’ve set onion seed and a couple of pips away today not grown pips before very interesting you might have to cut the tip of the pip to free the growing tips .
Just want to thank you for your informative videos. I have learned a canny few tips. Especially cleaning and steeping the grass leek heads. So again thank you very much.
Fascinating John, I just saw your channel. I'm in Windermere, Florida zone 9b 🇺🇸 I'm a residential homeowner and ony a homegardener, but your instructions are very interesting and informative. I'm guessing you are located across the pond and way to the north.👩🌾👍
@@gardeningwithjohnsoulsby111 I mentioned that I'm in Windermere, Florida zone 9b. We are only 1 mile from Disney World. I'm sure you or your friends have knowledge about Mickey's home. We have had days at 90° for over 2 months with humidity starting out in the high 90's %. When it is close to 80°F at dawn the tomatoes may still blossom, but they won't set fruit. But, thank goodness we finally started to see Autumn last week. Dawn temps are dropping. This morning it is 63°! I'm looking forward planting a Fall crop. I'm curious, when did you start your channel? I started mine in September of 2020. I've been Gardening for over 50 years, from balcony to acreage and now small spaces and pots. I think RU-vid is a great way to pass on info. I'm a gardener, but I am also a Vermiculturalist. If we can instill interest in growing perhaps the world will be a gentler place. Happy Gardening 🌿💚🌿
Hello Simon, I prepare my beds well and try not to feed thereafter , but if I was to feed at this time of year I would use something like a tomato feed. I use Terra Plus high potash but doubt you will be able to obtain it.
Great video John. It is some real encouragement for me. I have been trying to learn everything I can about growing large and giant onions and am really fascinated. I have seed from Peter Glazebrook, Keith Foster, and Medwyn Williams and want to give it a whirl this season here in the U.S. There is no really big shows or competition other than fairs, state fairs, and such but I just want to do it. I believe the seed I have is some good ammunition so learning my technique and developing my skill on reading the plants well is next. We do have long days in the summer and plenty of sunshine but keeping things cool may be a task. Anyway you have a new fan and I will be following what ever you put out there. Take care and stay safe......
Thank you Bill, you have some good seed to start with and I will post regular so you can follow. You must remember I live in North East England and we have a very cold winter climate, also very poor light levels for around three or four months, hence the use of artificial lighting . But hopefully my posts will help you achieve a big one.👍
@@gardeningwithjohnsoulsby111 been researching frantically about onion pips and leek pips. I've never heard if these or the term leek grass. I'm intrigued haha
