I was just telling my daughter how much I enjoy your teaching videos. All of the materials are great and you present them without pretentiousness even though you teach at one of the top jazz schools in the country.
That’s very kind Monica. There many educators who have an elitist attitude towards their students and teaching in general. I’m definitely not with that. Say hi to your daughter for me:-)
Always an inspiration in my alternative learning journey. My cousin, Barry Lit, posts your vids regularly and keeps adding to my learning inspirations.
Thanks Q upgrade accepted, doing the simple things well is so important as we can get lost in the fancy stuff so easy. You are flowing and smooth as usual, good job!
Great topic and lesson Q 👍 Have you seen the demo of how you make 1/4s swing? Fred Gruber would hold a stick above the stick playing 1/4s on the ride so the up stroke would hit the stick. The speed and timing and swing of your 1/4 notes are revealed by the upstroke striking the stick being held above the stick playing the 1/4notes on the ride. Try it. It’s very interesting. LP
Hey Qunicy, isn't emphasizing the skip beat also an option, like Elvoin Jones did? Is there a right or wrong in that regard? Or is it a matter of personal preference? Thanks for all your videos, I learned so much from you the last couple of years!
You are correct! There are definitely different approaches to explore. This the classic ride beat approach that all drummers should learn before making their beat to personalized or unique. But that’s just my opinion. Thanks for the watch and comment!
