The Sixers hired Sam Hinkie as general manager in 2013, and he instituted a radical rebuilding plan. Rather than try to field the best-possible team, he focused on a long-term strategy that saw the team acquire numerous draft picks in trades and draft injured players who would not immediately improve the 76ers but who could prove to be steals once they healed.
Hinke’s plan ultimately proved fruitful, as the Sixers lineup featuring young stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons qualified for the playoffs.
