I'd love to see this as a book where someone (Stereotypically the main character) wakes up underground in the broken down world and remembers nothing, slowly gaining trust from the animals and memories from Earth as it was before. I might do that actually.

Just imagine how fun if some people had lucid dream during that happens.

As for the question in the end. Im certain cats would take over everywhere and drive many bird species into extinction before nature balances things out again. In areas where there are wolf some large domesticated dogs will crossbreed with them ultimately becoming part of the wolf genpool. Most of the domesticated animals will go extinct too (like sheep and pigs) Cows and chickens might have a chance tho.

I have an anime idea: In a world where everyone fell asleep one day, 12 year old shinokū kirona wakes up. He doesn’t know why everyone fell asleep. Untill, he finds a book stating why they all fell asleep. The book reads; “dear who reads this, there was a curse by people not sleeping for long. Please, if you see this, and the curse already happened..your lucky, very very lucky…I think I’m getting sleepy. Save yourself. Goodnight, forever.” shinokū runs away with the book to an animal kingdom. Where he finds talking animals that learned how to read, talk, and understand humans. He runs into a talking dog named bashi. Bashi welcomes shinokū. Bashi later tells him about a cave with a spark. They go to the cave with the rest of the animals. And shinokū touches the spark, turning all animals into humans. And turn every awakener (yes, I call them awakeners) immortal. (Even the animals) and they go on an adventure to stop this curse. title: Awakened
