Hi Steve ! The flow control demo is super helpful, thanks for showing that :) Yes it seems there are some quirks around this scale but at this price point there are no alternatives really, let's hope they make these usability features at some point !

Glad it was helpful!

Espresso mode doesnt make much sense. The shot time start is from starting extraction (including preinfusion), not output of liquid. Would be more useful to be able to trigger auto tare and immediate timer start by placing a cup on the scale, so you can start the shot timer at the same time as pulling the lever.

Plenty of features to get to grips with. Enjoy.

I'm 100% with you on the buttons. I only use the normal weighing and espresso functions. Just switching between these two functions every morning almost sends me insane. The buttons are slightly countersunk, but also touch-sensitive, so you have to get your finger right on the dot. And you have to do that 5 or 6 times in a row to switch. I can't believe there's not a physical switch to achieve this. The scales work a treat other than this, but I can't recommend buying them if you have a workflow like mine (weigh beans in one mode, measure espresso in another).
@SteveHowkins

Exactly! A switch like the on/off with 3 positions would have been ideal. Maybe in the nano 2 or nano plus whatever they may call it.

Hi Steve. How did you turn off the beep on the nano? I cannot find instructions anywhere

Press the timer button for 5 seconds. That will cycle beeps on/off.

great review thanks Steve. Dumb question, is it possible to use the timer as a normal/manual stopwatch?
@SteveHowkins
@SteveHowkins 2 года назад
Thank you! Much appreciated. Yes you can. Although it doesn't like it so much in espresso mode. I suggest regular mode which is full manual operation but it works in pour over mode too.

Do you know how to calibrate this scale. I only have a 500g weight. Nice review thanks!
@SteveHowkins
@SteveHowkins 2 года назад
I’m not sure you can. There is no mention of it in the manual or a button/press to put it in a calibration mode. Factory calibration is all I believe. If you are sure your weight is 500g exactly it’s perfect to see if the scale matches.

@@simonchurchley8088 Thanks, exactly what i was after. I wonder whether some of the calibration weights can be bypassed. I only have a 500g weight.

Thanks for the vid! So it’s possible to start the espresso shot and press the start button for the timer at the same time (manually)? Because I want to measure my shots as soon as it get in touch with water.
@SteveHowkins

Yes just use the manual mode.

FYI, I just got a nano and it looks like they changed it so it only takes 3 button presses to change a mode which is much more practical.

Amazing! At least they are listening to the community. Next improvement would be a switch like the on/off in my opinion

I have this and the buttons on the sides are supper annoying with accidental touches! ... I love the size of this thing but the side buttons do suck

I bought this scale for espresso and I kind of hate it. The user interface is a bit laggy. You have to triple tap the timer button to switch between modes which is cumbersome and difficult. You literally cannot weight your beans for grinding in espresso mode, because if you overpour and then try to take some beans out, the scale auto tares! That means you have to weigh in the base mode, then switch to espresso mode, which literally takes 6 rapid clicks on the non-tactile touch buttons on the side. The design is just irritating and for people who love making espresso, this scale will simply damage your workflow. Avoid.
@SteveHowkins
@SteveHowkins Год назад
Yes the taps is annoying as i have said. A button or switch would have been better. I still use in espresso mode and weigh in espresso mode (got used to having to weigh slowly and not being bothered by .2/3g over or under) the size is the biggest win for me. I do agree with your struggles though.
@chunkEcheez
@chunkEcheez Год назад
@@SteveHowkins It's a bummer when you spend a fair chunk of money on something like this and have to find your own workarounds to make it functional. I also hate that the tare button is on the side and opposite the timer button. Ergonomically, your instinct is to pinch the scale to tare it, but when you do this, you end up hitting the timer button as well. Just another annoying quirk of this scale.

@@OSSALM I have just seen the symbol myself when turning the scale on. I can only think its an initial software read across from the black mirror 2 which does have app functionality.

Having never used the Lunar. I can’t comment. But they are similar in terms of size, accuracy and features albeit without the smart/app functionality. Considerably cheaper too!

In the pour over/auto mode, does the Nano still automatically stop the brew tracking once you decrease the weight (after 40s) like in the regular Timemore Black Mirror? That's been my main issue with the Black Mirror... I really wanted to use the auto mode for my pour overs but that auto-stop function gets in the way of me doing swirls towards the end of my brew and I've ended up just doing everything in manual mode
@SteveHowkins
@SteveHowkins 2 года назад
I think if you just remove the dripper then the timer continues. If you removed everything the it stops. I will double check and get back to you though.
@SteveHowkins
@SteveHowkins 2 года назад
After further testing the Nano does the same as the regular black mirror unfortunately. You can swirl during the bloom phase no problem and the timer continues but towards the end as soon as you lift your dripper the timer stops. Hope this helps.

@@Hoinya966 from what I know (which isn’t a lot haha) the nano is a copy of the black mirror plus in a smaller form factor and added flow control.

@@SteveHowkins I had a suspicion... But I also really hoped they would update it eeeeever so slightly. But that's alright, i wasn't sure if the extra money was worth the updates... I might just stick to a second Black Mirror or a Plus version if i want to splurge on a second scale now
