TIMEMORE SCULPTOR 064S - The Biggest Bang For Your Buck 

Best purchases in your life? That’s high praise haha. It’s a great grinder thus far, and I think at their Kickstarter price it’s a serious bargain.

I’ve got their one of their scales, and a couple hand grinders I’ve been very happy with.

I only have their Black Mirror pro scale currently but totally agree. It’s super responsive. I haven’t seen any jump in weight when I stop pouring.

I have their cheapest Black Mirror scale and it's very unreliable actually.

​@@mszigetihu I have an older generation of the "budget" Black Mirror, I'm fairly happy with it, but it does have a bit of "self-adjust" once one does adding weight; it also has quite noticeable negative "drift". I can't afford the smart scale version (and, really, who needs a smart scale?)

I believe will send a 078s to me at some point, that would be the only other one I’d be interested in as I don’t do a lot of filter and a filter only grinder wouldn’t be my thing.

Even the multi billion dollars Phillips uses kickstarter for some products. It not only helps fund the project but helps with marketing

Thanks Wyn! And I’m very curious about the turbo burrs, they look so unique, but I’m an espresso boy through and through so the ‘s’ models are what I’m looking at. But I’m sure it’ll perform well, and maybe I’ll buy the turbo burrs separate someday to try them out.

I don’t think there’s much of a comparison to be made, the sculptor is being compared to grinders well above that level

I backed the Meticulous together with the 078s and the Nanofoamer pro. Definitely the Meticulous was the one I was most worried about, but since they've got backed in amount of almost 3m USD, I'm a bit less concerned now.

Sprometheus says he ran this at low RPM for a light roast and had no stalling issues! Maybe Kyle's using some super light roasts or his had some issues with it, which isn't a good sign either way (quality control wise). I figured they limited the 'low' RPM to a relatively high (but OK) 800RPM to avoid stalling issues, I think it's weird the much more powerful 078 models are also limited to 800RPM I'm sure they COULD go to 600 without any issues at least.

@@BensCoffeeRants Different beans have different densities- even at identical roast levels, one bean can be much harder to grind than another. Thankfully, there's an easy workaround to prevent stalls- just slowly feed in the beans while the grinder is running. I grind light roast washed ethiopian (Heart most recently) espresso-fine on my Ode Gen 2, which has even less power, every time I make coffee. 0 Stalls ever. Granted it's pushing 1400 rpm all the time, but still. Timemore should have probably gone with a slower-feeding auger to mitigate this issue IMO. I Just went 078S personally.

@@Zirassi Yep that seems to be the safest bet. Also there's benefits to slow feeding the grinder (better grind consistency) but not everyone has patience for that.

@@Zirassi They definitely should, it would also have reduced popcorning Zerno also had minor issues with their first iteration of the feeder, so they plan to offer different designs.

3d printing is your friend - have already seen the first add-on 3d printed hoppers with steeper feeder.

They I believe want to send me a 078s but didn’t have a U.S. model ready to go. So not sure when that is happening.

It has a more powerful motor, I am waiting for it to come out. Want to upgrade my Speciality 55 to this or some conical 68+ grinder.

Do you think that the 078s is a competitor for the df83 ?

​@@mazon370 I think 078 actually has larger burrs than a DF 83. Pre breaker auger and vertical burr mount is also an advantage. I do enjoy the df83 a lot though I'll have a 078s to compare later!

That’s the one I hope to be getting my hands on soon. They mentioned wanting to get me one, but didn’t have a US model ready to send me.

I’d say it may be an entry level price, but performs beyond that. As a an all arounder I’m very happy with it overall.

Mazzer 33Ms and Italmill 64mm are quite different burrsets in cup and from looks...

@@tommihommi1 Not really. The geometry is almost identical, and they taste about the same too.

That’s a good question, and hard for me to answer without having tried the 064 and it’s Turbo burrs. But personally, I find the 064s to be incredibly capable, and essentially the 1-4 range on the dial is espresso, and you have another 12 or so notches to dial in filter. Plus, you can always swap in a different set of burrs. So I’d go for the 064s over the 064.

In a lot of circumstances I’m prone to agreeing. But Timemore is a trusted brand, and I think they’ll come through. But there is always a chance.

From the reviews the 78s might compare similarly to a cast/mizen. I’d say the MP would give you a bigger contrast

You have to be insane to spend that amount when you have so many alternatives for 1/2 to 1/4.

I'd say you will be quite happy with either of then, both seem to be great grinders, so if you need it immediately just pick the Eureka, if you don't mind waiting you can go for the Timemore.

@@yakofdez4698 I got a df64 and was mostly happy with it. The real problem is the static and the mess it makes. Coffee tastes great with stock burs. Had to take off the declumper, I changed it with one made by myself from a thin layer of plastic, but I still got the chute clogged too many times, so I just removed it and used a spacer in order to not make the screws touch the burrs. I have also aligned the burrs to be as parallel as possible in with the marker test. All the flat surfaces are touching evenly. I also 3-D printed some kind of a slow feeder. Personally, right now, I probably would have paid to get either of my past chosen grinders as they wouldn’t have been so far off the final price I paid for all of this and it would’ve been less of a headache in retrospect or in hindsight I do believe the better choice would’ve been the Sculptor 064S. The kickstart price was too good, and now I wish I had bought it and save myself all the time, money and coffee beans thrown into the garbage. I am still thinking of buying a sculptor 078s just to replace the df64 and a Eureka minion XL for a on demand grinder, Or just an XL honestly. I really dislike the dial though. The Mignon dolce vita solves that issue but has 55 mm burrs and is like at a very similar price. I also can get the XL cheaper secondhand and use my manual grinder if I wish to drink another coffee. My only problem is that space is not infinite and I am fairly pleased with the DF 64 after fixing it. Only problem now is that if I have people over I have to weight every single dose but I do want to buy small vacuum sealed containers for single doses for that reason. Overall if you have the money I would suggest the Sculptor 064S for a single dose grinder as it creates less mess and it would be more convenient to use. I have realised that the most important thing is convenience and consistency ( which in my opinion is the Niche or any Sculptor for single dosing ). . TL;DR: Got a DF64, had problems, was very frustrating, solved problems now good. Spend a little more money on grinders NOT to get better shots BUT to get a more CONSISTENT shots and a more CONVENIENT, EASIER AND LESS FRUSTRATING workflow and less mess. Sculptor looks like it checks all the marks in my opinion.

@@utiuandy99 I know sometimes we get the feeling we made the wrong call but think it this way: you already have your grinder and even if it was a bit of a pain in the ass you made it to your liking and you're already enjoying delicious cups of coffee. Those who opted for the 064S or the 078S are still waiting and we don't even know when Timemore will star shipping (there are conflicting reports, as usual 🙄). Besides, both Sculptors look very nice, granted, but we don't even know that much about them yet. With only a couple of reviews for each model I don't think we have enough information. Some reviewers consider them the best deal for your money and others just decent grinders that get the job done but prefer for instance a Eureka Mignon Specialita over the Timemore for espresso. We still have to wait a bit to see who was right and who was wrong. Or maybe all of them are right and it all depends on your personal taste. If you're happy with the espresso you get from your DF64 I'd keep it, even if it's a bit messy. No grinder is perfect, as I'm sure you already know. If you're like really fed up with dealing with its issues and can't take it anymore you can always get the 064S or S78S, keep the one you prefer and sell the other. But in any case you already have a great and very customizable grinder so you can afford to wait and see new options until you find the one you feel that it's big upgrade over what you already have for your needs. Until then just enjoy your grinder, I'd love to play a bit with a DF64 and pull a few shots. 👋

Most 64mm burrs are pretty good And high clarity. Timemores 064s at least looks like a typical design. Should be a good step up from what you're used to. Especially at lower RPMs. 078s should be even better

@@BensCoffeeRants I'm glad to hear you agree! That seems right. I was hearing the 078S has even greater clarity than the 064S with stock burrs. So, I'm hoping that is true. I'm very excited to find out for myself

@@classicrockonly yep it should be based on the larger burrs (which may not always be the case) but also what another reviewer noted.

@@BensCoffeeRants Seems that way. The Notte is 50mm, not the best. Heck, I switched to my JX Pro to try it on the 58 and I'm starting to like the results better

@@classicrockonly Yeah JX pro is supposed to be a pretty decent hand grinder for espresso. I have a K-plus I like.
