The customers on the show (including the celebrity ones) are told ahead of time that they might not be served at all, depending on how things go. You're right also that they don't pay for the meals even if they are great.

We had service at a restaurant on a 200. 00 order that wasn’t great as the food was just poorly cooked; my mother and aunt both were huffing and puffing waiting for the waiter and request a mgr. They intended to yell and scream based on the entitlement they felt to do so being upset as they were. 🙄I refused to allow them to embarrass me so quietly made my way towards the waitress myself away from their prying and eyes and calmly explained the complaints of food knowing the waitress doesn’t cook the food and she very kindly grabbed her mgr and once she was I formed looked at our check and cut it in half while also giving coupon vouchers for a return. It doesn’t pay to act an asshole; it pays to treat people like humans and allow them the chance to make it right.

Guys, kitchens are very stressful areas, and chefs are usually a bit mental. I have been a chef since 87, and I have had 3 fights in a kitchen.

If you are talking about the woman from X Factor who looked like Pink, the show totally set her up. She expressed not wanting to sing a Pink song and they told her to. Once the judges critiqued her all the negative comments we’re about how she was trying to be like Pink. She tried to explain that the show made her and then was given a bitchy edit. I do agree though, it’s a tv show more than an actual talent show. Know what you are getting yourself into

Having a black belt in karate definitely does not mean you’re mediately going to win a street fight, and it’s really dangerous to go around believing that if you have that rank you’re just set. Miss blocking one solid punch and you’re down. Also if someone has been in more street fights they might be a lot better in that setting and also might be able to take a punch better there’s just a lot of variables there.

There's an incredible hypocrisy when attempting to make contestants who have tempers look like psychopaths, while acting like Gordon Ramsay is totally without blame. Ramsay standing there daring a guy to do something comes with multiple security guards standing inches away. And of course, Ramsay and the producers see a goldmine of content in a defensive and angry chef, so they want to push him over the edge. Ramsay does it in Kitchen Nightmares too, but that's just a much better and far less contrived show than Hell's Kitchen.

Does he? If you look at him outside of the kitchen scenario, he's pretty chill and just your average Scottish guy with all the banter. As someone who can't stand arrogant people, he seems pretty humble to me. It's just that in his line of work, he has to be on his A-game, as do his staff, so he doesn't fuck around. He's not the only chef who's like this either. Pertaining to the first clip, Tennely clearly needed to be humbled there. There's plenty of guys like him who act tough and feel they need to prove it/show it and can't put pride and ego aside. They just look dumb and foolish. Childish

Another comment...I've been a chef for 15yrs...when I first started out it was during a time where political correctness and feelings, HR dept didn't mean sh!t. It was the old school way of learning in a kitchen. When I was still in culinary school I worked at a country club making great money but the Executive Chef was a hard ass Frenchman. He used to throw eggs at us when we f'ed up. Yelling and insults were as normal as the sun rising every morning. He made a few full grown a$$ men cry and quit. Lol. Best 5yrs cause with all that I learned so much from him and went on to become an Executive Chef myself.
