In this Timex Expedition North review video, I take a look at the Timex Field Post 36mm and 38mm watches, which appear to be upgrades of the cheaper Weekender and Expedition ranges. Are these worth the price hike? To find out, I purchased both the Field Post Solar and Mechanical to see how they stack up.
Disclaimer: All three of the watches featured were purchased with my own money for this video.

We rarely feature luxury watches like Rolex, Patek Philippe, Breitling, Tag Heuer, Tudor, Grand Seiko, Cartier, Omega, Audemars Piguet, or Hublot due to their price.

IIRC Timex was also contracted to make this spec of watch for the military. They were actually required to produce it, so it's not a total homage cash grab as per other non american brands. This is a nod to their own past too.

Actually Casio made not mother of pearl variants of the A1000: the silver A1000MA-7EF (and a golden A1000MGA-5EF). A step in the good direction - still no real vintage version with stylish blue-red-black decals. And maybe some actual water resistance. So way to go.

The curiosity on that mechanical got me to me also. I ended up getting the blue dial. I seriously considered the solar as well, but decided to go mechanical. These really are decent watches for the price, with those short hands being a bit of a flaw but they still work. I think the Hamilton and Bulova Hack are probably better overall but for the price the Timex is hard to beat especially since coupons here and there can make it very well priced.
@CivilizedWarrior
@CivilizedWarrior 3 месяца назад
I’ve been wanting the VWI hack for a while, but since I last looked a few years ago, the price has basically doubled. Are the new cheaper timex quartz movements really that loud? I need a new beater, and I don’t wanna pay $150-$200 for a timex lol. For that much id probably just pony up a little more for the hack. But I would like something luminous without a battery to have to replace all the time. Any other budget suggestions? I’m pretty new to watches.

Pretty sure that's one of the Seagull handwinders made for women's watches. Can't remember the cal. number. Edit: It's a Seagull TY6DSK, but with a non-skeletonized mainspring barrel, and some engravings around the movement (pretty sure that's a factory option). These are around £10, give or take, I think. These are okay usually, you can expect them to keep going for a couple years.

I actually prefer that they didn't colour accent the seconds hand. It looks cleaner in a neutral colour, and when I change the straps it won't limit my options by only being able to pair it up to match for example a red hand or a yellow one.

Hey man, thanks for the cool video! I've recently gotten into watches, and am now looking to buy my first proper watch. I was hoping you or someone in the comment section could give me some suggestions from personal experience. I want this watch to stay with me and keep functioning properly I thought I'd buy an automatic watch, with sapphire glass and 10 bar of water resistance (or higher), for around 300 euro/dollars (but I would go up to 500 should I really like the watch). So far I've set my sights on a Citizen NH9120, since on paper it has all the specs I want, looks cool and has a cool titanium coating. But there are little to no reviews or videos on the internet I've been able to find, so there's not an easy way for me to check whether the good specs on paper are as good as they seem. Does anyone have any experience with this watch or another one that checks the boxes that they would really like to recommend?

I own a genuine Timex digital watch, but it has a Casio strap. I had 2 Casio digital watches 2005-7 and both died after less than a year and wouldn't even work properly with replacement batteries. So I bought a Timex with the twist a flex strap. Strap was pretty bad and fell apart after 2 years so I replaced with one of the Casio straps. I've had the Timex since 2008. It's on its 5th battery but still works great. I'm proud to own a genuine Timex ☺

36mm version of this new solar Timex ( vs their 41mm version) ....has no date window. Don't know why it's so tough to find a solar field watch, 36-40mm, hacking, with date, 100m WR, screw down crown AND rotating bezel. With all the ridiculous and often "latest style trends" types of watches available from everyone.....this combo for some reason can't be found. So far, my slightly modded Citizen Chandler, BM-8180-O3e fits best......but with compromises...

Its actually better if the hands don't reach the marks on the rim. Luminous hands have a long way to go before they fulfil their promise. In the dark when glow has worn off after a few hours it can sometimes be hard to distinguish between the dial markers and the end of the hand where most glow survives. This can make it hard to decide between the hour and minute hand. The solution you found here makes it easier to distinguish between faded glows in the dark.

My Baltimore Ravens watch is a Timex, gone through 3 fabric watch bands over 5 years and still works.

Sadly, they all lack Indiglo backlight. When you give up on indiglo backlight, there are dozens of microbrands at similar price point that offer better or worse features and style. Meaning, nothing new or exciting. At least include Indiglo with the solar powered version and suddenly you have a feature no other watch maker is offering. Oh so close, but no cigar.

That's not a hole in the case. It looks like the notch for removing the bezel. It's not anything to worry about.

Old one reminds design of German army WW2 watches by design. New one reminds russian Komandirskie including case and shape of arrows and number font. 🧐

I have the 36mm pvd one. It's a neat watch, which deserves more attention.

Nah, that movement looks cheap, I'm sorry, but Timex compared to Casio doesn't stand a chance.

Why do reviewers of any kind of product use the word "colorway" instead of just "color?" It sounds pretentious.
