A lot of very...opinionated people in this comments section I see. And I don't have the information to disagree with them necessarily, since I haven't ever owned a Hamilton of any sort. But I can speak from my own experience. I bought a quartz Timex Expedition Scout a while back. I've had it for a month or so now. Not very long, I know, but it works great. -1 second every few days, which is good considering the 'cheap Chinese movement.' And I love that Timex has come out with some nicer solar and mechanical options with sapphire crystals and stainless steel cases. I'd like a solar Expedition someday. Sure, the Hamilton Khaki Field is probably an objectively better watch, but that doesn't make the Expedition terrible. Plus, a really good Expedition is half the price of a Khaki, and in some areas I actually PREFER the features/looks of the Timex. All in all, the Timex Expedition is (in my opinion) truer to the idea of what a field watch was originally intended to be. Durable, versatile, reliable.

A nice looking little watch with great specs, if you can pick one up for around £100 you'd have a bargin. I think the Timex expedition range in general has some really good watches at great prices, military, field and dive styles, some solar powered! Thanks for the great video as always 👍

I picked up mine brand new for £66. For that price, it's probably the best value watch on the planet. Obviously that's an incredibly good deal, but even at around £100-£140 I still think this is up there with the best affordable field watches. Thanks for the support as always Rik 🙏

I just picked one up for $200 its hard to find below that price nowadays since it's no longer being produced and very popular watch, in fact im in europe and only one available at amazon netherlands for 450 euros lol so i would rather pay for customs and buy on the US.

I own both. The Timex just takes that extra moment for me to read the time because the hands are just a little stubby and short. And winding both, the Ham feels a lot nicer - it also holds the wind for a lot longer. The Timex also isn't as well finished. And after you set the time with the Timex, the minute hand can jump 1 to 3 minutes, which is sorta funny, but also doesn't inspire a ton of confidence in the internals. The Timex is a nice value, I think. But I honestly think there are better options around that price range. I'd rather get a Bulova Hack, which might not be as water resistant, but I feel is a nicer watch at not much more.

It looks like a great watch. Your points on the WR make a lot of sense. However, from a visual perspective i find the minute hand and seconds hand of the Timex just a bit too short compared to the Hamilton. That makes it unbalanced to my eye.

I got one last April.. it was about 5-8 min per day fast. I’ve regulated it down to about 20sec per day. I got a Timegrapher today so I’ll try and get it closer. The hour and seconds hands needed to be longer..and the lume sucks.. Indiglo quartz is lots better! Just wish those had sapphire.. This model though…If Timex made this watch but added day/date and a better movement, I would buy a few of them!.

While the Timex is a solid offering, you get what you paid for and it is not even close to a Hamilton in terms of finiahing and dial details. And if we start talking about the movement , then things get really disappointing. It is some sort of unnamed Chinese movement that most whatchmakers will not even work on. If you can manage to get this watch on a serious discount, then go for it but dont pay the regular price and think that you are getting a great deal over the Hamilton.

THIS WATCH DOES CHANGE MUCH! During the 1960's Timex made watches similar for $9.95. Woolworth sold them. They would work for four or five years. Timex once was the Waterberry watch company. They have been making cheap watches for over 100 years. It is the same old story!

The Hamilton is definitely more sleek. The domed sapphire is lovely. But for $200, going off specs alone, the Timex wins for value. As I said in the video though, I respect the history and heritage of the Hamilton. Not a bad watch by any means.

I got one of these timex mechanical watches from jomashop for under $100 and at 1/4 the price of the hamilton i think its pretty damn impressive. Its it the best? Of course not. But its very good for the money. The next step up would be the citizen bm8560 and arguably worth the extra 80 or 90 bucks. All in all i knew what i was getting and am 100% happy with it

If you're swimming with a WR50 meter watch, the only risk is if the body of water is deeper than 165 feet IMO.
@Inv1cto
@Inv1cto 10 месяцев назад
That's not exactly how it works. I see how it's confusing though, I used to think the same thing. But WR50 is recommended for surface swimming at most. If you have the time, you can look up what the different water resistance ratings actually mean.

I have one of these and I love it. I hadn't opened the case back, though. I was not expecting the movement to look like that. It's skeletonized! Why? It's also miniscule, like it was made for a woman's watch. It's only a 38mm watch, I wasn't expecting a movement ring that large. I wonder what these movements were originally intended for, because that doesn't seem like something purpose built for field watch with no exhibition case-back.
@TopTierTicker
@TopTierTicker Год назад
Its the same movement that they use in the 34mm Marlin models. I suspect that they just thought F it and popped it inside the expedition too. Thats why the hands are a little small. The movement cant produce enough torque to hold anything bigger

The only respectable Bling a man can wear is his watch. It sends a message out to his peers and workmates. He cannot safely wear fancy rings, earrings, or chains in business or work settings. And so, when you show up at the meeting or the party wearing a Timex, what have you done? There is a Game being played, and yes they are keeping score, no matter what you think of all this. Get one nice respected watch and send a strong message that you have some taste, instead of everyone knowing you are racing to the bottom. Your only Bling and you choose Timex. Bling does not make the Man but it can certainly Un-make him.

The idea of any kind of mechanical movement in a "field watch" is odd to me. Surely a quartz movement would be hardier than an automatic during physical activity, and if solar powered would not even risk flat batteries. A hand winding field watch, to me, is even MORE insane. One forgotten winding on the trail and you'd be screwed.

Power reserve doesnt come close to the Hamilton, and the hands are ridiculously short. If they fix the hands its good value for the money. Though personally wouldnt buy a watch with a chinese movement.
@ReferenceFidelityComponents
No it doesn’t. I’ve had two timex expeditions and both were utter pieces of cheap and nasty crap. Both failed inside a week. Their dimensions are neat and I like how they look but quality? No. The Hamilton kills them and is worth spending the extra on. I still have an Expedition as a work watch but day date packed in, illumination packed in day one, timekeeping is so so. I use it because I don’t want to damage my better watches at work.
@TopTierTicker
@TopTierTicker Год назад
Well that's unfortunate. However I can only speak on my experience. That being after 6 months of use, the watch is still in amazing condition and running very well. At $200 or less, this Timex is a great field watch option. Hamilton sure has the xfactor that the Timex doesn't have but on a pure spec basis, the Timex matches and even outperforms the Khaki.

I've had my expedition for 6 months now and as you can see by the footage, it still looks brand new. I haven't had a single issue with the watch. QC is good, movement is working well and the sapphire and case is all scratch free. I do still see the value in the Hamilton don't get me wrong, I love the back story and history. But the low water resistance is a bit pointless. I'm more than happy having this Timex in the collection over the Khaki. Thanks for watching, enjoy your Hamilton (it's still a great watch btw)

The timex kills the Hamilton even though the timex is powered by a cheap Chinese movement and looks like an easy read time trainer you’d see a 10 year old wearing , if the timex cost than £40 to buy then it’s well over priced . The Hamilton has a good work horse Swiss movement , looks good uses better materials , has a much better Finnish and is worth every penny and if you get the khaki field auto then you get 100m water resistance too . Don’t be fooled by these RU-vidrs , in no way shape or form is that child’s timex better than the Hamilton khaki field , which is hands down the very best sub £1000 field watch on the market today if you can’t get the khaki field then the manual wind is second best and half the price
