The official opening of the Republican Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy took place in 1961. The goal was to collect in one place and promote the scientific and technical achievements of the Kazakh SSR. By that time newly built homes already formed new district, built in typical soviet manner - no extra details, no ornaments; pure economy, laconic look, 11 sq. meters per person apartments. These buildings enlightened housing crisis in the capital of Kazakhstan. Most southern of them were built on Timiryazev street, where, across the road, huge Botanical garden operated. Next to it there was newly opened Republican Exhibition where led street called 5th Line. Such an interesting name taken from the 1930s, when streets were marked out in the new development area. They were called lines - from the 1st to the 18th, and later, during the war, to the 22nd.
Nowadays this area might not be the most prestigious to live, most condos do not meet modern day standards, but yards are quiet and green.
