The day mario 3d allstars came out I saw a guy walking out of walmart with like 10 copies in his hands walking out. I think of him every time I see a copy on the shelf.
I live down here in Guadalajara mexico and we have a supermarket that has 3 copies from about the original launch date and has been marked down 20% ever since
Technically speaking, every physical release is a limited release. Eventually, the people who manufacture the game will stop making copies of that game. How many they make depends on how many sell.
Anyone that thinks a modern day game. Especially made by a massive company like nintendo will ever be scarce or sell for $1000s or even $100s anytime soon is living in a fantasy world
"Factory sealed games" are not games. You can't play them. If you don't open and play your games, all you have is printed paper behind plastic. If you own multiple copies of the same game, you are a hoarder, not a collector. If you collect, or buy games for the monetary value, you are part of the problem. I have hundreds of games, I don't play them all, but I have many nieces and nephews that use me as a game library. When guests come over, they see the old systems hooked up and say "Do you have (Random Popular Game)?" Many times I do, and I get to see them relive their childhood. If I don't have it, I have something like it. All of my games can be played.
Exactly! Just picture Nintendo thinking a game was so beloved they were going to remaster it, but they don't want to make as much money selling it as possible. This at the same time as they're upping the price of their most popular game just because they know they can squeeze us for it. Great video.
Not to mention they’ll be selling the game twice to the people who bought it digitally to be able to play it immediately after the direct and then buying a physical copy at some stage because they adore the game couldn’t resist having a hard copy that can be accessed and displayed forever
I went the playasia route and preordered a European copy out of curiosity. Regarding Mario 3D All stars, I chuckle every time I see copies at my local Best Buy
@@DijaVlogsGames To see if there was a better chance of getting a copy elsewhere. Thankfully I got lucky when randomly deciding to check if Walmart got any additional copies, and low and behold, I got the last copy they had available.
This is the same thing as the limited run nonsense. They could always re-release the same game and add 1 new thing and all of a sudden it's a brand new game...lol
I just turned down an offer to be able to buy an assorted collection of sealed Limited Run Games produced throughout the last 6 years for $35-$40 each.
This definitely feels like common sense to me. But thanks for making this kind of content. This message definitely needs to be heard by those who still suffer from FOMO
I love RI, but it's funny, the people this video is targeted for, he insults/mocks them, calling them names like Timmy and Poindexter. Like that uncle who gives you infinite wisdom, but mocks you and calls you stupid at the same time. It's great
Limited only means it is in production / for sale for a certain time e.g. 1 day / 3 months. Actually everything is limited since production will end. may it be pre determined or not. Limited does not mean there are only a few.
Zero retailers in my area have any copies available right now. Most only got enough copies for pre-orders. I'm biding my time until a physical copy shows up on shelves and I can buy it for MSRP. I would love to play the game right now, but I own the original and the wii version. I refuse to give Nintendo money for a digital and physical edition. I do not trust Nintendo to maintain their eShops and do not think the company deserves my money because they did not properly estimate the demand for physical editions. This is the exact same thing that happened with the physical release of Bayonetta (the first one) on Switch. I waited five months and it popped up at my local Bestbuy. Bayonetta is one of my favorite titles and again, as I do not trust Nintendo to maintain its eShops, I wanted a physical cartridge to ensure I could always play my game. I do actually think $40 is a fair price for the Prime remaster. The sheer amount of detail and effort put into it is leaps and bounds above the low-quality ports in 3D All-Stars.
Don't be stupid and pay twice for it... Go to Walmart. They have plenty. Picked it up Saturday 02/25 and they still had 5 more copies there. This was a Walmart right next to a gamestop.
I remember around Christmas of 2022 a guy bought 4 shopping carts of pokemon cards at BJs. I wonder how they made out..... probably bought 3d all stars a few months before lol
for metroid i find my copy randomly on a gamestop near my apartment the funny thing is if you check on there page they don't mark that they have fiscal copies online or in stores so is better if you call them to ask
People should accept and understand that most if not all companies have complete disregard for collectors / speculators / consumers. Companies are built for making profit, that is it. They will promise or state one thing, and will stretch that statement to its limit for their benefit.
I preordered from Best Buy and just picked it up on launch day. Did the same thing with 3D All Stars when it came out, except from Amazon. To be fair, Nintendo themselves don't understand Metroid. This is a company that thought Other M was good and didn't understand why it sold less than 500,000...on the Wii. For Mario 3D All Stars that was definitely planned...in this case I think they were totally blindsided at how popular Prime would be on the Switch, because that is an actual great game, that NIntendo themselves never understood why it was good.
People paying a premium are crazy. Just buy it digital for now and then physical when it’s widely available. Luckily my local Walmart had several of them and even Target had them.
One person says limited run. And the headlines read "metroid prime remastered is a limited run?" And people flame yt with "omg its going to be a limited run just look the game is no where." People or chatbots idk anymore
The speculators that thinks this will be a hard to find game I disagree with, because I have games right now that back then no one bat an eye because it's not the "it" game but I knew how good it was and most importantly I didn't know that it will fetch for A LOT of money I bought it back then because I knew it would be fun. A.W. phoenix festa for the ps Vita sealed
They probably want it now because they want to play it now but they don't want the digital version why? Because they're collectors like anyone else. They just missed out on buying 1 so they get fomo'd and they're on the toilet and they say .....fuck it i want to play this game I have the money why not. There ya go. They don't care what anyone says they will buy buy buy because in this world there is a lack of patience.
Not gonna lie, I had the same thought process once I couldn't find any physical copies near me. So I just bought it digital 2 days ago and am almost done completing it. Once I can find a physical copy for retail price, I'll happily add it to my collection.
I'd love to get feedback out there. These limited edition games seem great if they're numbered but even that is a cover art variant or the deluxe edition with extra tchotckes. To many people seem to be buying these & keeping sealed for resale Artificial supply & demand Good long term in this digital only age
Or or! Just wait for the physical release to get restocked and you will find a physical copy just fine. I saw a bunch or copies at the store of 3D all stars even after the supposed end run
I just happen to come across one of 4 copies left in my local Walmart, that's how I got my physical copy. On launch day actually. Got it for $19.47 with the help of a giftcard my cousin gave me for my birthday.
Shawn, do you get into the watch enthusiast and collecting industry? Feel like watches is also another area where secondary prices have come down such as Rolex, omega, patek Philip etc…..
Comparing this to Super Mario 3D Allstars is ridiculous. That's ignoring all the work that was obviously put into metroid prime remastered, and all the work that was clearly NOT put into 3D all stars. They were barely even upscaled. We didn't even get new textures or updated models.
Spending 60$ on a video game and hoping its worth 70$ in 2-5 years... it more speculation than anything else. The margins are just so small, and you have to store it, then spend time, eventually, listing it for sale... And then hoping somebody pays your asking price, and also hoping you aren't scammed by a dishonest customer.
I love to look at my copies of Mario 3d All Stars. Bought them for 45 Euros at average. They sell now for 90-100 Euros in Germany. Absolutely great investment. Dont know how it is in the US, Im sure you wont lie to us. It worked great in Germany atleast. Cheapest way to play Metroid Prime Remastered is to buy it used and after playing it then sell it for zero to very low amount of Dollars lost (if you can wait until the non-digital copy arrives).
Hows' it a great investment? You have dozens of copies and dozens of people lining up to pay you $90 per copy? If you don't have people locally then you're adding on fees and shipping, oh and don't forget your taxes.
@@HermannTheGreat Yes, they sell right now for 90€ and in the near future they will sell for above 100€. Shipping is 3€ per item, eBay takes 6% per sale. We dont have to talk about taxes, because everybody has to pay them. Thats obviously not a reason not to invest or not to go work. After all, great investment, as I already said. Way above the average salary in Germany.
So this happened to me with the amibo for skyward sword. The other side of this is, look at the price of the top 10 most expensive switch games. the FOMO is real
@@ReservedInvestments I meant when they finished the "rumored" Prime 2 Echos Remaster and the Prime 3 Remaster. edit: JS when that happens the game will not only not be rare, there wont be demand for the game once the collectors edition of all 4 comes out.
I want all the scalpers to watch this video so they know how dumb it is to speculate on anything new in gaming. I'm tired of not being able to get the games I want because they're bought up by scalpers... because it doesn't mean I'm going to buy it for the scalpers price. It means I just have to wait longer to catch the restock so I can play my damn games!
Yeah Nintendo messed up on this one did they not learn with Dread how Metroid is loved. Punn intended Nintendo dropped the and i quote MORPH BALL on metroid prime remaster.
Dread only sold 3 million copies. That's nothing compared to Mario Kart, Zelda and Mario Odyssey and that was Metroid's best selling game of all time. Metroid isn't a big seller for Nintendo
You act like stores should be getting like millions of copies of the game. There is a huge difference between how many copies are made vs how many are sent out. It also depends on the store for stocking and what will be sold. Let's say Walmart orders 100 copies of the game, they are unsure how fast it will sell. Turns out they sold out within 3 days lets say so they ask for another shipment of 200. Now Nintendo needs to supply and ship out another order for one store. Stores do this so they don't have overstock of items in storage bc where is going to go after collecting dust? If something is collecting dust, the stores lose money. Offering the game in digital is for those who don't care about the physical or couldn't get one, they know they could get higher number sales by doing this way. It's not some weird pyramid scheme shit.
If you buy the digital copy, you burn $40 for a single experience and then that's it. If you find a shop that has it in stock, you get it for the same price, maybe less with your GameStop monthly rewards, play it exactly the same, and then when you've finished the experience, you can sell it for $40-50 opened. Lol -$40 vs. +$10
I’ll always buy physical, I try and stay away from digital, especially with switch games where the game is actually on the cart. Found Metroid at GameStop yesterday but they only received 5 copies at the store,
Finally, there's somebody who isn't acting like Metroid Prime Remastered is going to be hard to get. Now, FInal Fantasy Pixel Remaster on the other hand.....
Not to tangent too much of this Timmies, Kimmies speculative discussion but Square Enix did a funny shenanigan with a limited physical release of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, on Switch, Ps4 and maybe ps5 and it feels like every copy purchased are now on eBay for two if not three times the original price. Sorry I just needed to get that of my shoulders. Please continue uploading new contents, I really enjoy your RU-vid Channel.
I assume there are transportation issues due to the current weather conditions. Just wait, there will be more copies available. Nintendo should at least make a statement.
If Timmy, Kimmy etc. took your advice, the extra $20 saved could buy them about 2 shares of Nintendo’s (US tracking) stock $NTDOY. Buying two copies would also support Nintendo and the Metroid series, rather than put extra money in a scalpers pocket. 🤔
4:38 this is what I'm thinking is the current meta sales tactic - just never have enough in the beginning to makes shit tons of headlines and hysteria, to secure sales from desperate buyers
Metroid has been handled differently than Mario 3D.. I never seen Mario 3D sold out anywhere. And I still see it now. There's zero stores that I've been in that has Metroid
Question please. Do you think putting money on a savings cd account at 5 percent is a good idea as an investment. I’m only asking because this is an investment Chanel.
Thats not what happened and why it happened. The game was delayed in physical because they didnt want to release the game to shops and blow cover for the game they were going to shadow drop in the direct. If you could already pre-order the game before the direct, there would be no suprise announcement. They release it on the eshop then let shops take pre-orders for the game which they would then ship when they had time to get the game to the distibuters worldwide. They have at no point said the physical copy was in limited suppy or available for only a fixed period of time as they did with the Mario Game. People are buying up the first batch that were released and selling at inflated prices, not because its limited, its because they are bulk buyting to sell at inflated costs, its not a limited print run. Local games shops have alreay started re-ordering stock.
@@ReservedInvestments Im not a nintendo Fanboy, I just think the difference between the Mario game that was released and what is happening with the Metroid game has different events originally starting it, though in both instances the "value" is and was being driven up by scalpers making it scarce. With the Metroid game its not a ploy by Nintendo by pretending to not have made enough copies, like you were implying 4:43, that is pushing up the price, its limited initial deliveries for a worldwide realese and scalpers. It also looks to be a USA thing as the game is easily avalable in the UK from most retailers, and roughly at the same as retail price on ebay. This popped up in my feed as I was looking for reviews of the game. Bonus is I also invest in stocks, shares etc, so finding the channel is also a bonus.
I didn't even know MPR was limited, I went to target a couple days ago and saw stacks on stacks of it, same with walmart since I couldn't find the product I was looking for at target. either way i'm buying it cause it's a good game, not paying a penny above 45$.
