Hi Tim what was wrong with the diff.

Not actually the diff. My CV went and I drove another 40k km. The vibration caused the shaft to jam in. I had to bash it out, so wanted to replace diff bearings to be safe. It still drove ok, it came off the road because I damaged the rear brake caliper on the last 4x4 trip. Sadly.... still off the road for a week or so 🤪

@@tturcino Yes drive shafts sometimes get stuck. I had some luck with a slide hammer and chain wrapped around drive shaft knuckle. In your case its easier to have it out to work on it properly. Will you be doing the diff bearing rebuild yourself? Just another thing to save the pinion seal from leaking is the diff breather hose that goes up and connects to a plastic pipe on body usually gets clogged. I cleaned mine out with compressor air gun. Get ready for the tones of road dirt that will come out. When they are even slightly blocked pressure builds in the diff causing diff oil to leak out the pinion seal. Thanks for documenting your work.

@@olamabambi4193 Thank you for your reply 😃 I am provally going to take it in for the bearing. I am a little worried with torque settings. It has factory locker and it does get put through some rough times. Happy to hear your thoughts. The bearning in it now is actually pretty good, I am tempted to just leave it and replace drive shaft and calipers. Also restricted with transport to take them diff somewhere lol. I live alone in stickville 🤪

@@tturcino Hi Tim hope you guys are well. Can you tell me a bit more about the calliper damage did the disc wear the side of the calliper? Check the end of the drive shaft to see if the spline that goes into the diff is not twisted or damaged. If your calliper was damaged in the way that I was guessing make sure you don’t have a damaged wheel bearing. Is the cir-clip like metal ring on the end of the drive shaft that goes into the diff still on the drive shaft? I think if the bearing feels good and smooth in operation you could get away with just changing the drive shaft and replacing the calliper. I would not touch the bearing or pinion bolt as they are set up so there is no wear to the crown wheel. If it’s possible can you give me some back ground info on this problem maybe the noise you heard was the wheel bearing. Its a perfect time to replace the diff bushes and diff hanger bushes the ones that look like they are on a boomerang. The diff hanger bush bolt on the drivers side may need to be cut as it hits the tank and replace the bolt from with one from wrecking yard and put it in the opposite way only on drivers side to make it easier if you need to do any work again. Are you in vic.
