2 Timothy 4:1 was fulfilled during the house of Israel’s last Yom Teruah. September 22, AD73, just a few years after the temple was destroyed. This had to do with the house’ last day, fulfilling Matthew 23:36, 38.
Excellent teaching! Are your views the same as Gary Demar on this subject? I heard he's writing/wrote a book on this. Do you have any book recommendations on the topic of Christ's return in the 1st century?
Pretarism is divided into 2 camps that I have found, partial pretarists and full pretarists. I think he and Gary are both partial pretarists believing that Jesus is still coming back to earth. I personally don't believe that, and it seems that once you go down the pretarism path you realize that any NT scripture that speaks of Christ's "coming" is speaking about his coming in judgment in 70A.D. I have listened to this guy's messages although not a whole lot. He is very good at explaining and I'm thankful to have found him, even though I disagree with the 2nd coming aspect. I read "Last Days Madness" many years ago. It's worth readying. Before diving too much into the words of men, I recommend a deep dive into the prophets, especially Daniel, Zechariah, and Isaiah.
@@danielg7868 We brought Gary in for a conference this past March and he was a breath of fresh air. He’s much like Doug Goodin in that he doesn’t settle for weak answers. And he’s not easily manipulated by the self appointed gatekeepers. I refer to him as the Bible question man. He questions everything. The eschatological police tried to cancel him about a year ago but it has royally backfired. Gary has gone through the partial pret gauntlet for breaking ranks on 1 Cor 15, Rom 8 and 1 Thess 4. He’s dared admit that they may refer to the events leading up to and including the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. They went scorched earth on him demanding that he answer 3 questions… and his response was to point out that his accusers can’t even find consensus on the key apocalyptic passages. Yet they demand compliance. It’s sad. Gary maintains that he isn’t settled on all things eschatological. He’s clearly not a FP but he, admittedly, can’t find ‘end of the world’ passages in Scripture. He still believes in a consummatory event but he’s unclear what passage he would use to back that up. And I respect him for that. In my view, Gary is as intellectually honest and objective as Doug is. And that’s very rare. Wars and Rumors of Wars is a quicker read than Last Days Madness. It an exegetical look at Matt 24. I’m not much for labels but on the spectrum Gary is closer to FP than anyone in the postmil camp. Unlike many of his PP colleagues like Gentry, Wilson and Durbin, he refuses to be bullied by credal orthodoxy. Wilson’s “When the Man Comes Around” is an excellent commentary on the Revelation. And Gentry’s “Before Jerusalem Fell” is an outstanding defense of the pre 70 writing of the Apocalypse. I hope that helps.

Doug, were there more conferences on the ctc website that were removed? I’m looking for the conference where there was a panel discussion and you were speaking about the ultimate goal (chief end) of man? The Westminster got quoted that states to glorify God and enjoy him forever. And you pushed back emphasizing obeying Jesus and loving him…that’s all I remember. It may have been in the context of a biblical passage where it came up.
Great study, thank you. I'm wondering if the last days, of the Old Covenant back then around AD70, has any parallel with the days we are living in now? I know that biblical events/prophecies can sometimes be repetitive in some way or other, maybe there is a correlation perhaps?
