For someone who supposedly likes to “set the record straight” you sure have a strange way of showing it. You’re obtuse. Sit down and shut up until you have something of worth to offer up. Right now it’s not looking hopeful jnr.@@The_Black_Anarchist
Very cool that you found this! Hollywood Squares (along with a holiday episode of The Donny and Marie Show) was one of the very first things Tina did publicly after leaving Ike. Both shows I believe are from the latter part of 1976 (the same year she left Ike). As we all know Tina was left with absolutely nothing after she split from Ike and survived for several months by collecting food stamps and cleaning the homes of her friends. Tina was willing to do whatever she had to do to bring in some money so she did this show as well as several variety shows like Donny and Marie, The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, The Cher Show among others. Tina was truly a survivor in every sense of the word and she got the last laugh will her well deserved and amazing/unprecedented career comeback in the 80's!
Absolutely! I would like to add that when she cleaned the homes of her friends, she was doing that to earn her stay. Not to earn money. When she was on Hollywood Squares, she said that they would come in the dressing room with the questions so the celebrities could prepare for the answers. Well, she said right out in the beginning the guy asked her, "Where's Ike?" She said that surprised her and thought it was rude, and after that, she didn't get 1 question that was given to her in the dressing room. Not one. They were all different. Rhonda Graam booked everything from A to Z for Tina in that time. Tina was not going to give up! And I'm sure glad she didn't! Thank you and enjoy!
@berthapalmer177 I think both of us agree with you! Tina showed the world that nothing was going to stop her from her dreams! So I'm not sure what "dumb" comment you are referring to that needs taken to the bank? 🤷♀️ Both our comments were positive about Tina.
In her recent autobiography "My Love Story", Tina talks about this experience and how the "where's Ike?" Question made her feel unnerved along with the questions being different from what was rehearsed. She got embarrassed. She later said that her sons joked behind her back saying "Mother is on a television show making an ass of herself" no matter how hard she tried to explain herself lol
I love how the host gave her so much props for her talent, I somehow imagined people were not seeing her as a world class act at this time. So it's great to see that people loved her even back then. I hate to make it a race thing, but at this time for a white guy to say this she was one of the best acts he had ever seen and have the audience applaud in agreement, somehow I didn't imagine in the 70'ies.
Ike & Tina were huge in the 70s. Toured the world a few times, opening for The Rolling Stones in the 60s, even Elvis. She always minimizes things from that time. Known as the Hardest Working Woman in show biz while with Ike.
Tina worked long hard hours, lived and breathed music for most of her life, she didn't have experience in this trivia type questioning 😤 She answered one question very quickly. Where's Ike? She didn't know.....didn't care either lol
I can't believe she didn't know who the queen of the jungle was being that that's where Ike got here name Tina from.. "Sheena the queen of the jungle" he named her that because sheena was really wild , and he wanted Tina to be wild on stage .
I should't have laughed so hard at that part of the video, but....LMAO! Why would he ask her that, when it was public knowledge they were separated/divorced at this point. hahaha. What a dummy.
This was right after she left Ike, so most people still thought they were an item (people even thought they were still an item 8 years later when she had her solo success with "What's Love...?). She got tired of having to explain in every interview about "where's Ike?" So that's when she decided to write her book. But many people didn't know how bad her relationship was with him, until the movie came out, which was 17 years after she left him. Remember this was b/f social media, TMZ, internet, 24 News-cycle that we have today, and even b/f the talk show phenomena. Plus people didn't talk publicly about personal stuff the way they do now back then. But I agree, it's funny to hear people asking her about it only cause they didn't know.
+J Herod (Herod The Great) oh I bought her book and finished it not too long ago. I just find it funny that at this point people didn't figure it out. She was seen with the man nearly everywhere and all of a sudden she wasn't with him. Lol
Tina is wayyyyy too classy and talented for bullshit daytime television shows. I’m so glad that Roger rescued her from this D list shit. She is one of the best performers, ever, to have graced the planet! Love you Tina
@@chesterjade7630 I respect your opinion. I was offended that the host called her “Ike and Tina” when she was struggling to make a name of her own. I truly meant no offense. Happy 4th of July!
Women's liberation, the eras women rights movement, was barely off the ground during H.Sqrs. airings. Women were still stigmatized by seen as second class citizens under men. Particularly in Hollywood executive culture. Ike Turner wasn't publicly known to be abusive till many years later. Women were seen as trouble makers or liars then if they openly complained about abuse. These rare videos of Ms. Turner are treasures. Members of the same Hollywood culture kept Paul Lynn from becoming a rising star and appearing in motion pictures.
They were not even legally divorced at this point...so the guy did not say it to be mean .... Roger Davies even said a lot of people in the record business didn't even realize they were divorced when he was trying to secure her deal.
That's the main thing, I can't stand that why they keep bringing Ike's name in front of Tina!?! that's annoying for her that constantly... I know she got sick and tired of people bringing that man up in her face ,, why was even he asking where he was in the first place... I'm glad she said she don't know and laughed it off.. I'm pretty sure she didn't care,, that's so crazy... You clearly know she divorced a man.. Why in every interview they always asked her about him they got divorced she doesn't want to talk about him.... Talk about Tina and Tina only ....
Perushion Rushion her stage name is TINA TURNER. she was first brought to fame being part of IKE AND TINA. so by just saying her name...it automatically includes Ike....so its understandable.. Especially since this was right after they got divorced
Yes people don't get it. It was always Ike and Tina turner, that's how we had grown to know her at that time! People always try to view things from To days point of view not thinking about what the world was at that time.
I don't get how Tina didn't know the Sheena question. Ike named her after Sheena. This shows how little she was involved in creating the image of Ike and Tina.
Celebrities are give the questions before the show. Tina stated in her book that none of her questions were the ones asked when she got out there. The game is to ask a celebrity a question. The contestant picks the celebrity. The question is asked. The celebrity will give an answer. Now the contestant has to figure out if the celebrity is correct or wrong. The celebrity can give the correct answer or a false answer. That's how the game is played. She knew. She just was giving them the wrong answer.
She JUST split from Ike and did this show (and other shows) to get money. She was broke, nervous.....and her mind was in several different directions. You should do deeper research, instead of judging someone on a 4-minute game show clip.🙄
@@domarq put yourself in her shoes. The inner world of a celebrity is not as large as one might think. There’s certain freedoms they don’t share with non celebrities. Granted it’s probably more luxurious than ours but it’s not like they can just walk into a chain store without the possibility of getting mobbed by the public. Also in Tina Turners case her world was even more isolated because of Ike. Abusers tend to isolate the person they are abusing. Add to that was the fact that they were out touring much of the year and I would imagine that didn’t leave much time for Movies or television and probably not much time for reading a book. Back then there was no internet/ social media. Her world for those sixteen years was wrapped up with Ike and trying her best to not set him off and enduring the abuse once something triggers. The rest of her time was rehearsing, performing and their kids when she was home which wasn’t often. I don’t know if she has gone back to school in any of her time after Ike but back then she only had a high school education which was earned during segregation.
@@kisha4040 actually I was following a lady who was reading the book your talking about. Maybe she did cuss Ike and get in his face. If she did then good for her. It don’t really make a difference. If she did then it was more than fair.
😠How did Tina Turner get the question wrong about the Queen of the jungle, when that's the character, that Ike named her after❓❔⁉️, 😱🤷🏽♂️🙆🏿♂️🤦🏽♂️Anna Mae Eat The Got Damn🎂
You don't know how Hollywood Squares is played do you? Celebrities will give either the correct or wrong answer to the question. It is up to the contestant to agree or disagree with that answer. So the celebrity can give the wrong answer. Understand?
