Ms Tina Turner was (and will forever remain...) in a league all Her own. She was a class act on every level - living Her life with the utmost dignity and grace. An excellent analysis of The Queen of Rock - and what made Her so truly Special. THANK You, FIL!💕

Tina was always an electrifying performer. I am old enough to remember watching Tina in the Ike and Tina revue on my gran and gramp's black and white television. I had never seen or heard anything like it. Her energy level was different to any other pop artist I had seen. So when she re-emerged at the age of forty-four I had a feeling of familiarity with her. But in her re-emergence she had an authority on the stage and in front of the camera that again were head and shoulders above anyone else I was seeing on Top of the Pops. And you are right, Fil, to sing and dance simultaneouly requires phenomenal and unusual breath control. You mention the mic, staging was always in Tina's artistic vocabulary from start to finish. The choreography here is 1970's TV choreography where you really can't stray too far from your spot. Tina could do TV choreography, which is what made her famous, but she could also dominate a huge stage and audience such is Wembley - and she is the only solo female performing artist to have filled Wembley stadium. Initially Tina was self-conscious about her voice "It wasn't like Diana Ross," about her legs, "I didn't know what to do with them," and her lips, "I thought they were too big." To be able to move from that kind of self-consciousness to the charismatic, celebratory projection of her physicality which became her hallmark is a phenomenal shift. Another phenomenal development was her look. The hair, heels, costumes, make-up and walk with which she emerged for her relaunch with the Private Dancer album were different, fresh, relevant and totally arresting. These were her inventions and reflect and ability to adapt and evolve which enabled her to carry a performing career from 1957 to 2010 - and still be fabulous. Tina was a musician's musician. The litany of stars who helped relaunch Tina and worked with her through her solo career is a who's who: David Bowie, Mark Knopfler, Bryan Adams, U2, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie and of course Mick Jagger. Tina is LOVED because her performances where so giving, "...to do everything I can to please the people." At a time when music in America was still very segregated along racial lines, Tina did something new in bringing the feeling of Black Music, the Blues, into mainstream, high-energy crossover pop-music. This is why Tina was always immense in Europe and it took America to catch up with how huge she had become. Cliff Richard wanted her breakout song, "What's love got to do with it?" With all due respect to Cliff, a fabulous artist in his own right, but can you imagine that song a hit in his voice? It was the smoke and smoulder of Tina's voice and attitude that made that song a number one hit. And does anyone remember Buck's Fizz's cover of the song? Probably not! I mention those comparisons because it really higlights what Tina brought to the party - confidence, swagger, raunch, blues, rasp, energy, projection, dance, finesse. There was something very masculine about her performance style "I sang like the boys," and a joy to it that always made it a rush to see Tina perform. She was unique. The inspiration of her own story of survival and transformation always added a depth to our appreciation of her art. There are simply too many reasosns to explain why she was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame twice!! Once for the Ike and Tina Turner revue and once again as a solo artist. Tina was a one off and will be so dearly missed by millions around the world. We are grateful to have shared the planet with her and will dearly miss her. I feel like I have lost a member of my family. Brava Tina! Vale Anna Mae Bullock! R.I.P. And thank you Fil for shining a little light on what made Tina so unique.

I was so fortunate to see Tina in concert twice in the 80s. The first time (1983) she opened with Bowie's Cat People. It is one of my top 10 concert memories. The Nutbush clip you showed from 1975 is very near the breakup of her abusive relationship with Ike. Thankfully her post Ike heights eschewed the Ike years. No one will ever display such raw natural talent and guts again...no one. Once again, thank you Fabulous Fil!

I was lucky enough to see them live at a 3 day outside concert in Seattle in 1969. There were many top acts of the day with The Doors, Lead Zeplin, Bo Diddly, and many others. The energy the Ike and Tina Review had still stands out in my 73 year old memories.

I always loved how Tina would work the mic stand! She would attack it, drag it across the stage with her, slide or shimmy her way up to it. It was her friend and it was her enemy. As you mentioned, she would raise or lower it, move it out of the way, and you barely even noticed her doing it. James Brown was particular good at it, as well.

She was a force of nature. I saw her live once back in 2000 and she was AWESOME! For the best part of 2 hours she PERFORMED in those heels at that high energy pace- non stop. How on earth did she do it? It was just one of the most incredible concert performances I've witnessed. It's amazing to think that Nutbush City Limits was only the 2nd top 20 UK hit of her career. It would be another 11 years before she finally broke through and finally achieved the commercial success that had eluded her for so long. A truly iconic performer and one of the most distinctive voices of any genre. Tina gave 100% 100% of the time. So many classic recordings. She covered a very unique space in the musical spectrum- pop, rock, soul r&b- blues- no one else sat in that cross point like Tina did.

I saw Tina perform at an outdoor venue. We sat near the back on the outfield grass and even from that distance we were totally enveloped in the energy and virtuosity of her performance. Many performers are static but Tina was all over the stage dancing, prancing and posing singing her heart out. There was no doubt that we were in the presence of a legend.

Tina was a total badass. to have that kind of stamina while singing is crazy good. so many artist today cant even sing standing still and this woman was all over the place . if you stood her on her head you prob would not be able to tell the difference. Its so sad to me how all the greats are dying and we are left with well what's left which isn't much in my opinion. I always wonder where starting artist draw there inspiration from new singers because they leave so much to be desired in my opinion. Great analysis Fil your the best. Tina deserved a great analysis and you never disappoint. Rock!!!!!

It takes a tremendous amount of endurance to be able to sing in full voice and dance “fast.” Tina was a farm girl! She did fieldwork and likely had to walk or run to most of the places she went on a daily basis. She was so physically strong that you never saw her really gasping for air during or after a performance until she was quite a bit older and she performed at this level for DECADES.

I grew up with Tina Turner. I remember the first time that I saw her on Television. I was just a toddler, It must have been 1974 or 5. Tina was on a primetime variety show and America had never seen anything like her, except maybe James Brown. Tina was a FORCE OF NATURE! In her sexy dress, slit up to her hips and displaying lots of cleavage, my father was mesmerized even before the music began. 🤣 When the band kicked in with the familiar CCR tune "Proud Mary," the feeling was ELECTRIC! From the first note to the last, Tina did not stop moving. And, she was not merely swaying to the melody, as so many singers of the day did. Tina was running and jumping, THE ENTIRE SONG! As you can imagine, when she had finished she was so out of breath, that she could not answer the interviewer's questions. Her sweat glistened off of every part of her body. I remember my mother saying: "Oh, she is DISGUSTING!" Which only made my father and I love her more! 😍

After everything she went through with Ike Turner, and when many people counted her down and out, she had the strength and determination to reinvent herself and make that glorious 80's comeback. Fil, that was an AWESOME video of Tina! I love it. I've never heard that song ever in my life! "FLATBUSH?" It's the funky songs that she and Ike performed together that I really like. I found that she was born in Tennessee and moved to St. Louis when she was 16 and lived with her grandmother. Ike was from Mississippi and moved to East Saint Louis. There is a photo of his home online on Virginia Street where the band lived. I mentioned that I had a friend who was a DJ at one of our local stations who used to drive Tina and Ike and Tina's children home after gigs because he trusted my friend, a make and Ike didn't trust any males around his wife. Plus, a Winger, Ro, is correct about Tina having high blood pressure. I saw a video short where she said she had a stroke on her wedding day. Not her marriage to Ike. She said her blood pressure was high, then she went on to say, "I've ALWAYS had high blood pressure." I said to Ro she was fighting kidney disease and Ro said high blood pressure can cause kidney disease. SMART of Ro to make the connection!! Tina exuded "SEXY" when she performed. She was all over the stage and she gave 1,000% of herself and she was very pretty too. Her teeth and kips were shiny and she had glowing skin. I came across two other videos. One that had a snippet of Ike playing the heck out of a guitar that resembled Fil's that Fil plays on his live streams. Ike was a wretched husband to Tina, but he was an awesome musician (he claimed to have married 16 times!!! INSANE!!). And a second video that MUST BE SEEN! Ike and Tina perform four live songs complete with choreographed dancing, a brass section, the two have matching gold costumes, Ike has a Beatles haircut and is kinda stiff as a board and Hugh Hefner is hosting them "As they start wailing in the ruckus room." They sing " I WANT TO TAKE YOU HIGHER" (have you listened to the words to this song?), "COME TOGETHER", " PROUD MARY" and "HONKY TONK WOMEN". The video is on youtube and entitled "IKE & TINA TURNER -live at 'playboy after dark' 1969" and posted by pieroangelo2. Hugh calls his guests "kids" 😂🤣❤! ENJOY! IT'S WORTH EVERY MINUTE OF YOUR TIME!

Ike & Tina review played the Seattle Center Arena in 1970. I was 13 sitting in the front row. The energy was amazing and they worked the house! She wore a miniskirt with nothing underneath. She is the first woman I fell in love with!

It is interesting to see the vibrato in her voice on the monitoring software. Hers was indeed a unique voice and singing style and she poured everything and then some into her performances.

Jimmy Barnes does the constant vibrato too, although he also can clear up and do pure high notes. Turner and Barnes sounded like male and female versions of each other when they duetted Simply The Best. I don’t know the best song or recording to isolate Barne’s constant belting vibrato from. Thanks for doing this tribute for Tina Turner. She was huge in Australia and much loved.
