I mean you could argue that they're not innocent in the same way nothing can be innocent, since purely by existing they've killed bacteria and possibly insects and the like... But that's only if you want to be really pedantic. I read it as the OP referring to the rest of the litter, which would likely have been killed upon completion of the journey. This one got lucky.

@The Wraith you're clueless. I've worked in a slaughterhouses. EVERY animal that's killed for food is a baby. Lambs can be as young as 10 weeks. Cows are only 18 months. Males generally tend to be considered as waste so piglets get metal poles smashed over their heads or thrown on the floor as hard as we can. Male dairy cows were also sent to us. Some only hours old and can't even walk properly. Unwanted male chicks are emaciated alive with their shells just after hatching and turned into chicken nuggets. Not only that but when you slaughter a 1000 animals a day 5 to 6 days a week it kind of messes you up. Many of my friends have serious problems with ptsd, some guys doing that job even kill themselves. I've NEVER seen any animal welfare let alone any for staff. Pigs actually try to escape cause they are that intelligent. Now I bet you can't even stand going to your job on a Monday morning so just imagine how it would feel to get up the same day knowing they you've got to kill 500 babies, and I bet your just EVERY other meatard that says to me that "i eat meat but couldn't do that job." I suggest you "man up" and go do that job and find out for yourself if you think these animals are not innocent.

As kindly as the beef you eat? Or as kindly as the poultry you eat? Or as kindly as the seafood you eat.... or as, oh heck, you should get the picture by now.

@@aliciamadden7589 I hardly ever eat meat and if I do I make sure as far as possible it has been free range or wild. But I think the issue should also be about how animals are dealt with when they are slaughtered. Not enough is done to expose this. It is natural for us to eat meat - and many other creatures do so - you only have to watch one creature eating another to feel it is barbaric but it is part of the absurdity that is life. But when you say vegan the problem also lies in farming our vegetables. Unless something is grown properly is it right to eat it? For example rows and rows of the same vegetable in a farm yard is probably no good either. Plants problably also have senses and who knows but feelings too. Unfortuantely we need to change the way humans live, and have to arrange ourselves in smaller groupings with shared responsibility for taking care of producing our food. Greed and profit motive have caused havoc to our food systems and increased the suffering of everything under it. When a leopard kills a buck it is not nice but it is swift and the buck up to that point has lived freely.

Well, we’re all complicit. I try to eat bacon and pork as little as possible, but until it’s none I can’t claim a share of responsibility. However, I think we really need to establish better legal humane standards for better qualify of life before they are “processed” and for the environment (huge, industrial pig farms are obviously terrible for the environment).

Which is why i became a vegetarian. We are all God´s creatures and deserve better than industrialized meat production.

@ Snowme......I would have absolutely no problem saving her however, having the emotional strength to give her up is a whole different ball game. If I did convince myself to give her up in hopes of a more productive life, I would (no doubt) break and go back and get her. I am very selfish with my emotions.

i_love_rescue_animals agreed. There’s a sci-fi book by the author of the space odyssey trilogy and he says the resources of the earth are so depleted that OF COURSE people are vegetarian in the future because to eat meat is a drain on the environment.

Also, there is the possibility of "growing" meat in the lab - which they have done - but it's prohibitively expensive right now. I actually don't see the point of growing meat. Just be efficient and enjoy eating grains, nuts, fruits and veggies. It's quite delicious.

i_love_rescue_animals agreed. I was vegan for 4 years then my health went downhill from stress and I’m vegetarian again. But it’s odd how I’ve been verbally attacked on RU-vid for not being vegan anymore. At the end of the day people have autonomy. I wish more people were vegetarian but it’s also a choice. Even if meat was grown in a lab I’d pass. It reminds me of blood too much. In girl, interrupted the author describes how she was high and passed out on packaged meat at a grocery store-woke up on it and became vegetarian after that. It didn’t make it into the movie but still interesting. Also I wish breeders didn’t exist. They’re pointless. I have 2 dogs. Both rescues and the purebred is physically messed up and about to have her suffering end while the mutt is in such good shape. Very lucky a vet is coming to the house to put her to sleep vs stressing her out bringing her to the vet.

It's definitely possible. With cows, when a cow is slaughtered while pregnant, they cut the baby out and kill it and take the baby's plasma, turn it into a serum, and put it in cosmetics. Pregnant animals give birth fairly frequently on their way to their death. The thing is... If you buy bacon, beef, chicken, cheese, eggs... You are part of the reason these things happen. I realized how wrong I was to contribute to this, which is why I stopped.

That’s a wonderful question. As the other person mentioned, it would be safe to not bring a “strange” dog around pigs, but I have to completely disagree otherwise. After raising all sorts of animals together for 16 years, if they are familiar, especially if they bonded like these two did, and it’s a sweet disposition dog, there would be no problems. If that dog didn’t attack the itty bitty piglet, it’s certainly not going after a larger almost full grown pig... they are STRONG. From what I see the pig loves all, so, YES, that’d be amazing! Great thought!

I agree. All farm animals deserve to live long and happy lifes. But they all get killed when they're about one year old. It's soooo sad. I just bought a book with pictures of elderly farm animals (you never see them like that). It's called "Allowed to grow old" It makes me so happy and so sad at the same time. Happy those animals in the book are this lucky. And so sad that almost every other farm animal on this planet doesn't have a long and happy life like that 😭

I've never liked/eaten pig meats & before I even realised how much I love the animals, I guess that it was fortuitous for me that I just didn't like the meat! It's always been rather funny that whenever I mention that I don't eat porcine of any sort, people often say "but you don't look Jewish" (for some reason, they never assume that I may have converted to either Judaism or Islam!) & I have to explain it to them. However, as I still eat some meat (but not seafood, also because I just can't stand it), it'd be very hypocritical of me to expect others who like it not to eat it, just because I like the animals so much. And I also love lambs as animals, yet I somehow find a way to eat that occasionally!

And then it grows up to be fat, ugly, disgusting beast!!!!
