Dude...the map they showed in the video...that's MY area...and I was there just yesterday playing this.... I'm freakin' out, man...

I remember reading about this last year and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Just rediscovered the app this morning and now that it's fully live I'm about to go nuts with this all over the DSM Metro.

Nice. The best (the correct) way to play ingress is by contacting and meeting up with other agents. Reading about it online or watching a clip with steps is such a tiny part of a game that is currently taking online gaming to another level. Out onto the street. Ingress is more than just a game, if you treat it as a game, you will end up hating it because you CANNOT WIN . OK. But you still need to choose a team. To help you choose between Resistance (blue) and Enlightened (green) , open the intel web page and find portals near you. Choose the "opposite" colour to the dominant portals colour nearest to you if you want to progress fastest. Side with the locals if you prefer a slow gentler game start. Get outdoors, have fun. Google groups are where the big action is.

Went out to try to play without knowing anything and I figured some things out. This video helped out with filling in the gaps and teaching me how to actually play the game. Got to level 2. It's pretty fun for the first half hour or if portal control is going back and forth between teams, but if you're hacking the same portals for more than half an hour it gets kinda boring.

Whos here because they are super suspicious of Pokemon GO's popularity and wanted to see Ingress and how it relates to Pokemon GO?

You're mistaken. "Augmented Reality" games and "Alternate Reality" games are two totally different things. Just google "Alternate Reality Game" to find out more. To sum up the difference, the "Ingress Scanner" app is an augmented reality app. The game, however (thanks to the Niantic project site), is an Alternate Reality game.

Loving it so far, only wish there were more portals in the rural areas. Shame they couldn't team up with us geocachers for portal placement so we could have some more.

Ok.. So the app is free but do you need to download maps using data transfer as you walk around? Or do you have pre-downloaded maps?

Yes, Portals can be hacked more than once. Unless there is a mod installed that increases this, the most is 4 hacks per 3 hours. As for the negative percentages, that only occurs when hacking or attacking an enemy portal. The numbers over resonators are damages done to them (Though note this is rounded up), and numbers over your arrow refer to damage to you. Don't worry, as all units are based on XM, so damages to you refer to how much XM you lost.

Im using home wifi...does that mean i have to move my modem around?or will the gps track my phone?

I started playing and i'm addicted to it. I have a great idea a item to go with Ingress that players can wear a special kind of glasses that allow you to see portals like it shows in the game but seen from the lense of the glasses kinda like James Bond type stuff to advance Ingress

So THIS is what my hubby was playing walking around on the crowded beach boardwalk area a few summers ago... It was annoying the crap outta me when he kept stopping not paying attention to where he was going... Can be a dangerous game when ADHD gets involved....

I hope Ingress gets out of beta soon. I'd like to give it a try. Games are my go-to hobby for leisure time, but all that inactivity isn't good for a person. If I could combine games with riding my bike around town, that would be awesome.

Can I hack more than once on a portal? I keep hearing there's a cooldown phase, but seems like I can still hack. I'll see negative percents come in red.... I'm not sure what that means.... Do most people just click hack once, or do they click as much as they can until xm is out?

I just go it and I have to say it I pretty trippy.. I love it but it's more fun when where you live can serve as a better play ground than the small dirt town I'm in..

I just downloaded this game and even after watching a few videos like this I still don't really get it. I'm not into gaming at all and i dont play any other games but this seems really cool. some guys I met while walking my dog the other night told me they were playing it and kinda showed me the game but I am still very confused.

The A in ARG stands for augmented, where some aspect of the game augments reality. >_> The phrasing of alternate reality would suggest that the game occurs in an entirely different space. It's just a minor nitpick, but I hear "alternate reality game" thrown around a lot lately.

It's probably more fun, because when you are geocaching, you just go find a box and sign it or trade something inside for something else... this, you interact with it somehow, and it's more of a game than geocaching... although I love the idea of both.

You just need more XM, walk around where you see theese small blue dots, if u are within range (50m) or so you will automatically collect them, once u have enough XM u can hack any portal enemy or not but its a greater chance to get items if the portal belongs to your faction otherwise usually u get no items but if lucky u can also get but less chance.

this game seems like Pokémon Go on steroids. it's way more complicated, and seems like it takes a lot more time. I wonder if Pokémon Go will ever become as complex as this game?
