You're probably gonna start needing to get convention T-shirts with something like "we're really busy now, can't stop for a meet" printed in huge letters for situations like this last day at Tinley. Then you'd probably have an easier time getting what you went there to buy without having to explain to everyone that you're in a rush.
Also would be a good idea to announce that on like the final day of the convention, you won’t be available for pictures or meets or whatever. So that way fans know not to bother you and know to find you earlier.
I always believed that hermit crabs couldn’t be bred so that’s realllllllly cool that people are figuring it out so we can humanely own hermit crabs in the future :)
Animals at Home on RU-vid had a great interview that discussed hermit crab care and the people attempting captive breeding them. It's very fascinating.
Just a suggestion for fan interactions at shows. I know you love interacting with them and you feel so bad when you can't because you have stuff you need to do. You need visual cues to show you're available or unavailable. Like, when you're wearing the things fans are supposed to search for or your Snake Discovery gear, you're available and want to chat with your fans. But when you're not, you're unavailable to fans so that you can get the things done that you need.
Yeah there is going to have to be some limits on the fan interaction at a point. It’s awesome that they’re so accommodating but the huge crowds they attract are going to become an issue as they become even more popular, especially as they encourage even more fan interaction. It’s probably difficult and somewhat frustrating for the people and vendors who are going to the show for the sake of the show itself to deal with hoardes of fans there just to meet the youtubers they love. I also don’t think that it’s going to be possible for E&E to do both the show for themselves and their business AND all the fan interactions without one being sacrificed and people becoming upset. Being such awesome and sweet people, I know it’s probably hard to tell people no, but the public needs some well-defined limits of it’s just going to get to hard for everyone involved.
I imagine they’re going to have to start hosting a meet’n’greet booth - they’re at the booth, come say hi! Not at the booth/on the floor? Working. They could share it with other YTer’s, too.
They could have different cards on their lanyards, like a green one that says "please talk to me about reptiles" a yellow one that says "I'm a little busy" and a red one that says "intense work underway, can't talk right now!"
Emily & Ed, expos like Tinley are your professional shows. It's where you network with fellow professionals. Having been at Gen Con as a vendor, knowing what folks in your position have to accomplish, that you do what you do to interact with fans is amazing. Do not feel the need to apologize for doing business (the fact that you do shows the wonderful quality of people you are). You might want to wear tshirts that state, "Sorry, I can't talk right now. I have to buy stuff before the show closes."
Perhaps for the future of attending shows. You do a off-sight Meetup before or after a show, giving more people a chance to meet you. I know how much y'all love your fans and it sounds very stressful do greeting at the show when running last minute grabs Love everything y'all do for the community
An off-site meet-up sounds like a really good idea - becoming celebrities has got to be really stressful, gotta have some incognito time to do real-person stuff.
Thank you so so so much for sharing this with us!!! As someone who can’t go to reptile expos, it means A lot to me to be able to see it! Even if it is just through a video!!! Again thank you so so much and have a fantastic weekend!
I just got an A on my genetics test in AP bio and tbh a lot of that is that I have been watching your snake breeding videos for years so I have a super good understanding of the chances of something being het or how multiple genes interact. I just always tried to think of a parallel in the snake world to a scenario posed for a question and it totally worked. Thanks!
A tip for y'all next time you go to stock up at a show: Rent a U-Haul van! They tend to be cheaper, better coverage/insurance, and great for hauling stuff! Everytime I head to dog shows, I always rent a U-Haul van to load up dog crates, grooming tables, gear, etc.
Good to see you got some White’s tree frogs. They’re very charming and friendly and grow quite large here in Australia. We just call them ‘green tree frogs‘ here. In wet weather you can find them around houses near exterior lights, and you can tell if one outside somewhere is being threatened because they scream very loudly. Mind you, they can be a bit disconcerting when you lift the lid on the toilet and find one or two in the bowl, staring up at you.
Omg hahahaha. One time I got up about 2 am to p, I was at a friend's something was splashing in the toilet.....it was a flipping huge rat....omg I was about to sit down too lol!!!!
Seriously, have you considered bringing one or two of your employees to Tinley to be your buyers and food runners, and crowd control? ^~^ Love you guys! Love your channel!
It was an honor to meet the two of you. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy busy day. Drove 10 hours in one day to go and you helped made the trip even more amazing!
I love to see the big smile on Emily's face and hear the excitement in Ed's voice! I know you two are working hard, but it's great to know you are also having so much fun. Looking forward to this year's egg hatchings!
Suggestion: next show take an employee or trusted friend with to do the shopping. (Obviously with your guidance.) then you don’t have to worry so much about getting shopping done at the end of the show.
Hello! You guys are the reason I like snakes. I was scared of them, but I watched your videos and I loved them! Now I have wanted a hog nose for a while! Edit: omg I've never had more than 10 likes before- Another edit: wow 347 likes.. In one week! Didnt know that many people would ever see my comment!
Exactly same story with me. In January, I became the proud momma of 5 (impulse bought 3 of the 5) hognose snakes. Never owned any reptile ever in my life and nothing more than the occasional cat growing up. They're so awesome & very easy to take care of. There's a busy day ever other week when I do a full bin clean, which takes about 3 hours to do all 5 (with 3 kids to take care of at the same time otherwise it'd probably go a whole lot quicker). I 100% suggest getting one. They're awesome, beautiful creatures. I've finally stop jumping when they Faux strike too lol.
that car ride is like when my sister, my mom, and I take vacation to Florida and back but we make it work. It's fun to get everything to fit. So many cute animals. Whoever gets those tarantulas, I wish you the best of luck. Maybe you should name the eastern hognose sassy whatever color he is. I am still waiting for at least one animal to be named sassy.
As someone who owned hermit crabs as a kid, I was always disappointed at both the lack of ability to breed them in captivity, as well as how short lived they were compared to wild ones. Even when I talked to other people with them, they would also discuss their very short lives. I imagine that in the future, the information I was given may end up in the same way as the old alligator books that Emily and Ed have discussed on this channel.
I hope you both know how much peace of mind you give to parents, we worry so much about the amount of time our kids spend on iPad's and what they are watching, your channel is educational funny creative and you also teach responsibility, thank you for doing a show that is great for adults but so important for kids, thank u both for giving our families so much and we wish you nothing but the best
Very good idea. Time to delegate some of those duties. The public does mean well but sometimes they overstep and there just isn't enough time in the day to get everything done.
I just wanted to say I really like how you guys make your videos! I love how instead of vlogging a days worth of random happenings, you guys separate content by topic, even if it’s not chronological. It’s a weird thing to comment on, but I’m sure I’m not alone in it! You guys are awesome, and it’s been amazing watching you guys grow over the years
8 months ago I coaxed my extremely judgmental mother into watching an episode. Emily immediately started eating packing peanuts. Today I talked her into giving it a second chance and the first thing Emily does is sprint into traffic.
Aww Tera Tiger Studios' Ita bags are SO CUTE! I especially love the axolotyl one ♡♡. I'm an artist too and I've been working on a couple of things to give to you guys, Clint, and I'm almost done Adam's from Wicken's Wicked Reptiles. I was going to send Clint his first but I am hoping to meet Adam at the Toronto Reptile Expo on Sunday! I was going to also make something for Annalise especially because I won the tickets from her, but I'm making her something special, and I have a gift for her too ^-^. Anyway, my intention is to make things you'll each like, as well as the opportunity to use it as merch if you each so wish ♡.
They are cute but tbh I was a little miffed to see her there with them at a show. I was one of her kickstarter backers and we were waiting for wallets and the ita bags for well over like a year and she was taking bags and wallets to shows without sending us our stuff. I cancelled my backing because no one was getting communication from her, no one was getting their stuff, and it was taking SO LONG for us to get our stuff that we backed her for while she was taking these finished products to shows.
@@ChibiCherubyeah I the bags and really wanted one, I Google her to see if I can find for them for sale but saw there are alot of unhappy customers about the bags and wallets not shipping. I’m disappointed because they do look awesome and I would have definitely got one🥺
JAve you heard about the new discovery on the Galapagos islands? There is a new species of Iguana that lives in burrows in the highlands of one of the islands and separated from the yellow iguanas some 50 million years ago. They are red iuanas.
Went to my very first reptile show recently here after moving to Wisconsin… Held 2 snakes and a crested gecko… Thank you so much snake discovery for helping me overcome my irrational reptile fear!
we got a $5 hermit crab when I was 6/7 and he just passed away this year, I'm 19 and a half right now as sad as I am to see him go, I'm proud that he got to live this long, he was always very active, loved climbing and just walking around, apples was his favourite :)
Ed & Emily - there is NO SUCH THING as a video that's too long! This was delightful to watch and fun to vicariously experience Tinley through you!🐸 (I miss our bullfrogs and chameleons🦎) Thank you for a great share!😁
Hey can you maybe do an updated how to care for crested geckos pls?! Love you guys such an amazing channel you make learning about all of these species so entertaining but still educating
I always appreciate these videos and when you guys interview different vendors, I usually end up looking up each vendor you show in these to see if they have anything I'd be interested in.
That eastern hognose snake is AMAZING! I've actually had the privilege to see one of these in the wild, and it looked NOTHING like that. I was actually terrified and thought it was a cobra at the time. That was actually one of my stepping stones into the reptile world.
Hey Emily and Ed, I started watching your channel when you were building even though I didn't keep any exotic pets. Then when you got your inverts I freaked out because I've always been scared of spiders. However, I was somewhat fascinated and started watching Dave's Little Beasties, then other channels too. Fast forward a few months and I got my first spider (Australian giant jumping spider), followed by tiny trapdoor slings and now six tarantula slings (native old world, the only thing we can get in Australia), a wolf spider juvie and another jumping spider I found on my front door! And really it's all because of you two. Thank you for your part in helping me get over my fear of spiders and introducing me to keeping inverts. 😄😄😄 Btw here in Aus beginners have to *start* on Ts similar in temperament to OBTs!
You both put in so much work for your store/zoo and go above and beyond especially since your also making videos in conjunction. I'm glad you guys had fun at Tinly, I hope your able to take a mini vacation after all this for all the fun, busy, chaos that it was. I don't know if it's up your alley, but it might be fun do a year in review sort of thing for a video and talk about how its been opening a store/zoo, things you learned, things you regret, things your really proud of or happy with, etc. I've really enjoyed getting to see you journey from purchasing the building to were you are now.
I'd recommend just posting in advance your times to meet with fan. I totally understand that you have shopping you have to do, and Tinley is a FANTASTIC opportunity to look at new product for the shop, and of course animals for resale and the collection. Having a meet and greet after Tinley if you feel bad for not getting to say hi to fans could be an alternative, but I can only imagine that Tinley is exhausting, so don't overdo it. You both already are very busy.
The fact that you spend majority of your weekends meeting your fans is incredible! Dont feel bad that you take a small piece of it for yourself and your business/breeding needs! You put so much effort into your fans and giving them new things and exclusive things its simply awesome to see! ♥
A suggestion for the future: you can always send the vendors your list before the expo, send partial or full payment, and that way you don't have to hope, you don't have to take any supply they need for vending to those who aren't stores. Obviously is this works for you, I am not telling you to change anything. Just a little suggestion n_n
I’m so happy about the hermit crab breeding program. I didn’t know going into my hermit crab journey he was taken from the wild till years later. It makes me so sad that my little guy was stolen from his natural habitat. I try my best but I wish he was never taken away from where he was born. I vowed a few years ago I’d never get another hermit crab because of this practice. It gives me a lot of hope we can have captive bred ones now. I love my little dude so much. Thank you for showcasing this!! I never would’ve known
Ahh Im a teratiger studio Kickstarter backer. Still waiting for mine but im so excited to get my hognose wallet! I love her stuff and can't wait to buy more from her. Wonderful artist. Such a fun show this year. I hope I get to go one year and try to get a pin from you guys.
I just adore listening to you talk about all the breeding permutations with your hognose snakes, Emily. I don't understand a single thing you're saying, but I still enjoy listening. I figure if I listen enough times, I'll acquire understanding by osmosis. ROFL
Ed:where are we going to put the false water cobra we are picking up? Later Emily:can you guess what's in this tub? Later Emily:*opens tub* we picked up a false warer cobra
Sweeeeet, got here early :D Ps: I am so going to be buying stuff from terratiger. Her stuff looks so cute! Ps Ps: Never apologize for long videos. We love them and always want more :D Man, I wish I could go to the coming up expo. I have a Magikarp hat which would have been perfect lol
@@Bonniethebunny the one I was speaking of was wild caught, as a pet they would be fine. I am not sure how old it was, but i doubt it would have survived long
I've never seen an eastern hognose that looks like the one you guys picked up. That is incredible. The hermit crabs gives me so much hope for captive bred ones in the future, and better care knowledge for them. I remember having them as a kid but they never lived very long. Can't wait to see the hognose breedings you guys have planned. Those are some cool morphs.
I love the ending with the pics of fans and their starches. Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks what you do. To see the young people in involved is so rewarding.
This is uploaded 8 minutes agooo??? A NEW RECORD , THE FASTEST VIDEO IVE SEEN FROM ITS UPLOAD TIME!! Bye the way i LOVEEE you vids, been a fan for 1 to 2 years now and still loving it!!😍😍
I live in NZ so have no hope of visiting any of the shows, but I love the effort you put in to trying to meet all your fans and being as patient as possible but not only that but going above and beyond to make them feel special. Thanks Ed and Emily! also Ed is looking so much healthier since leaving his night job I love you guys getting to live your dreams!
I can't wait until hermit crab domestic breeding breaks out even more. I can finally keep them again without worrying about sourcing hurting the health of the species and shortening their captive lifespans as well.
I’ve been watching your channel for about four years now, and I had always thought snakes were cool, but now I think they’re straight up ADORABLE. All the pied ball pythons are making me jealous! They’re my favorite.
I like to imagine the fast forwarded segments are actually just Emily running so fast trying to get extra footage that the world around her slows down.
So much fun seeing all of your fans and their mustaches! It's so exciting to see what the future of your hognoses might have! I hope everyone will be excited by the new snakes, tarantulas, jumping spiders, frogs, and other inventory you'll have at your shop now. Hope you got home before midnight and got some rest after such a hectic last day of shopping! Thanks for the content Ed and Emily! 🦄🐊🕷🦎🐸🐍🐢🐌🦗🪳🕸
It was an absolute blast to meet you and Ed!! My boyfriend and I had a great first expo and you guys truly made it great for us. Hope to see you again sometime ❤️
I work at a petshop and this reminds me so much of my boss calling in like "Oh yeah hey I have a SMALL delivery can you come and help me carry it" 😆 or when you have 2 different companies bring on dog food. No need to go and exercise after that.
I love the long videos!!! it's always awesome to see y'all out and interacting with everyone. the new additions are going to be amazing once they're old enough to breed!!! 💚🖤
If my package ever arrived, there's a PERFECT hat for you to wear in it, Emily. It's a fairly big box with a sharpie drawing of a cat on the side, holding a snake. I sent it over a year ago now, but I haven't seen it get opened.
