As a child growing up in the late 70's, my Dad loved listening to Elton John. My Dad passed away back in 2009, January 13th was his Birthday. I was pretty bummed out just wishing he was here. As I walked into a gas station to pay for gas with my Dad deep on my mind, "Tiny Dancer" is playing over the gas station radio intercom. Goosebumps, a tear, then a smile across my face. Thank you God, Dad, and everyone else watching from above, it let me know you are still watching me. I love you and miss you Dad.
I would like to thank sir Elton John for writing this lovely piece of music. I was a ballerina. My husband was a music man. I used to live near the boulevard and loved it. Danced in the sand at the beach. My husband sang this song to me lots before he passed. And now I'm still his tiny dancer in the sand.
@@tomgirard3491 true she can still have her memories. But give the credit where it belongs lol Eltons a good musicians but the true poet is behind the spotlight
My first date song with my wife of 50 years. We have been singing it for all 50 years. The song captures the essence of that uniquely early 70's vibe. Thank you Elton John for such a masterpiece.
50 years? Wow! I bet you have some great stories. Would you mind sharing any special memories from your younger days in the 70s and 80s? And where are you from? I would love to hear them!
I lost my voice several years ago, can still talk but cannot sing anymore--it really kills my spirit 'cause I loved singing. So when "Tiny Dancer" comes on, I know when the song reaches the chorus I'm not going to be able to sing it--but my mouth opens anyway, LOL. What comes out may be a croak, but I can't help it, I MUST SING IT! My dogs ran outside, but I sang it, dammit! Thank you Elton John!
@@katylepetsos7512 Oh I don't mind, it's no secret. I developed a tumor on my thyroid, it grew aggressively and was invading the vocal chords. They did surgery to remove the tumor, but it was too late, it had killed my chords. Thank God the tumor wasn't cancer, I'm grateful for that. It just still rankles that I can't sing anymore. Surgeon told me I was lucky I could still talk (most of the time, anyway, LOL) so I'm grateful for that too.
@@Doxymeister oh no, that’s awful, I’m so sorry that happened to you, but at least it wasn’t something that could’ve been fatal. But I don’t even wanna know how I’d feel if I couldn’t sing anymore, cus I do it all the time. But I’m so so sorry that you went through that.
I bought concert tickets for my wife, well ex. She had a broken foot and I was carrying her into the huge stadium. A security guard saw us and offered to help us to our seats.he took her crutches and headed toward the stage.i showed him our tickets and seat location. not the best seats but all I could get.he took us to the stage where there were about twenty chairs and a couple folks in wheelchairs. He sat us directly in front of Sir Elton John's piano.twenty feet at best.I obtained a whole new respect for the mans music that night.I listen closer now. Maybe I should have listened closer to the wife lol.remember the great times !
@@rejcreem3890 around 2000 thanks for the sentiment. We think we have everything under control at times but most of us are stumbling in the dark .silly humans.if we did not have bad times we could not fully recognize the great ones .
Im 33 and i lost my 75 yr old bf on august 28,22. 9 yrs together. This reminds me of walking in the house and him bumping his tunes really loud. Walking in and see him dancing singing along would make me smile. And made my heart quiver with joy. Miss u my Commander Of Chief Navy Officer James A Wyatt. I forever will miss u so much.
@@pup1008 Don't be ab elitist ass. A fan is simply someone who appreciates the music, and newsflash, it IS possible to appreciate an artist for two songs.
How is Almost Famous not mentioned?!!! The scene where they are on the tour bus and start jamming to Tiny Dancer is so epic. Legendary. It's been over 20 years and I still haven't seen a movie where in just one scene makes the whole movie shine.
Lmao I listen to chorus less songs that range from 6-11 minutes long. If you think waiting for a chorus is really that hard to call it a "true test of patients" I think you might have some problems to work out.
When they told him about RBG this was playing in the background at Trump's rally. What a classy response he gave. No rehearsal, no teleprompter, just raw emotion and compassion. She was unusually vocal about her dislike of him, but he kept it classy. Nice job, Trump, well done.
pnut3844able Not necessarily. He showed class and respect to a genuinely great person who did nothing but hate on him. He chose the high road, rather than use her death for political advancement or a jab at revenge.
my dad recently found out I was listening to Elton John and I could tell how emotional he got because that's what he used to listen to when he was my age and he couldn't imagine I would follow his steps he's so adorable haha
I’m 35 and as a child I had every word to Eltons greatest hits memorized by 1st grade. I use to sing his songs at a restaurant as a little kid maybe first or second grade. The waitress would take me to the back and make me a ice cream Sunday and let me pick all my toppings! Vivid memories like this you treasure as you get older
This brings me goosebumps everytime I hear "hold me closer tiny dancer" I'm 22 and this song still keeps me happy till this very day no matter sad or depressed this song helps me and I'm sure everyone get three the rough days in all of our lifes...much love everyone.😌🤠
This song comes on in an elevator or somewhere quiet.. everyone goes about their business.. then the chorus hits.. Everyone: HOLD ME CLOSER TINY DANCERRRR
I've always liked older music, even as a kid. Not that I didn't get caught up in the current stuff, all music has value and speaks for generations. Elton John is one of a kind.
Same I'm a kid right now and I listen to some current pop songs but I have a deep love for Elton John, Beatles, Queen, stuff like that. I'm an old soul. There are only few of my kind that are my age
Depends on your age, I was luck enough to grow up in the 90's. The new music that decade was amazing! Still, no denying my fandom of Sir Elton! The mans a master of the craft!
Even though I wasn't alive then, this makes me nostalgic for 1970's southern California. Conjures imagery of people on the beach, maybe in bell bottoms, warm days smoking outside of a record studio, etc. Music is a crazy thing, man.
My ex and I used to have this as 'our song'.. When we had broken up, he sent me this song of course saying "I want my tiny dancer back" ... We never could go back, we tried, but this song always reminds me of the love we did share way before it was time to move on. **A shout out to all those who have just gotten over a break up or going through one feeling and are feeling a bit lost xx There is light at the end, just keep searching peeps ☺️✌️ ☀️
+Jonathan Dickey hang in there John, it's really hard, but we'll get there hey.. It sucks breaking up, it really does. But now it's time for you to be the best YOU can be ☀️✌️
You don't need to understand art to love it. As long as you feel it you are good. If the art of geniuses was understood it would have been replicated long time ago.
Fun fact: In the new Rocketman movie, Taren Egerton plays Elton. Coincidentally, Egerton also played Johnny the gorilla in the movie Sing, where he sang the song, Im Still Standing. Also an Elton song. How cool is that?
Apparently tarpon singing I’m still standing in sing is why he landed the spot, the director saw it and auditioned him because of his role in sing, pretty neat
Also Elton was in Kingman 2 the golden circle in which taron is also in it lol these two seem destined to be linked in films one way or another and I love it
Bruh I noticed that like a year ago and wondered that they’re related. To my surprise they weren’t related. Also ur forgetting that Elton John was in the Kingsman: The Golden Circle with Taron Egerton.
She just died?...... Wow. I didn't know that, you're telling me now for the first time. She led an amazing life. What else can you say? She was an amazing woman...I'm sad to hear that. I'm saddened to hear that. Thank you
this is the song I listened to driving my wife to the hospital to deliver my first daughter . always loved the song that moment made it part of my life forever .
but everyone knows and loves Bernie, well atleast I do. With rocketman movie coming out he had a big part and Elton very much shows us how much he loves him.
People who only view music on a surface level don't really know Bernie. But we true music fans of which there are many appreciate his genius... Of course along with Elton, together they crafted masterpieces!
Every time I hear this song I think of my grandfather he was an amazing piano player due to polio when he was born his talent was truly amazing he idled Elton John for his talent he would always try to teach me to play his songs. Me grandfather recently passed on R.I.P Ralph 1952-2019
@bloxys im sorry to hear about your grandpop, ironic my grandfather is also Ralph and he is in a nursing home and has dementia he only remembers me and my name none of my other family members not even his own children, tears in my eyes 😢 grandpa is proud of you my friend
I read a Reddit post that said, people who have the ability to feel music enough to FEEL the music in their emotions and all, that not everyone has that. And you should be grateful bc we don’t experience music the same everyone else:)
Two songs I will always listen to... Tiny dance and landslide. Both, in my opinion, equally bring out every possible emotion with pure style! They don't make them like this anymore 😔
One of the most incredible songs of all time. ...music and lyrics are so strictly connected to create a deep sense of missing someone you love, without feeling any need to be sad about it but only really nostalgic....thanx elton
God this song brings me such deep feelings of long ago. I literally get goose bumps listening to it. You know it has to be a great song to do that. One of his best. Ageless, timeless, pure emotion evoking, perfectedness. Thank you Elton ♥️
MY WIFE LOVED THIS SONG FIRST TIME WE HEARD IT ON A BUS TO NEW YORK NEVER HEARD OF ELTON JOHN BUT HE SOUNDED GREAT NOT LONG AFTER SHE WAS KILLED BY A DRINK DRIVER BROKE MY HEART THE LOVE OF MY LIFE WAS GONE THE SONG BRINGS HER BACK NOT LONG BUT BACK I LOVE YOU TINY DANCER AND I MISS YOU. R.I.P. MAYBE SOME DAY WE WILL BE TOGETHER

I had not heared this song but ed sheeran on his song ' castle on the hill ' lrycs mention this song so i came here and found it and i love all these coments and the song .
@Elton John Are we really meant to believe that you are really Elton John? Your RU-vid account was opened just a couple of months ago, it has no videos, no "about" info, and the email address you have provided is a Gmail address when the real Elton John would have an address associated with his actual domain name. And your comment, yeah...Elton has been doing his thing for decades, I'm certain that he's not browsing this comment section just waiting for an opportunity to tell "Mango" how much his comment means to him. You, sir, are a complete tool, nothing but a foolish fool.
him and his songwriter? You're talking about the legendary Bernie Taupin. And, by the way, Bernie was never in the studios. Wrote lyrics and Elton took it from there to put music in the words.
my moms ex boyfriend used to sing this song to me growing up. i used to dance while he sang and played guitar. he was the closest thing i’ve ever had to a dad. now this song just reminds me of better times. it makes me happy.
This song was playing as my daughter was born, still can't listen to it with out getting choked up, every time it plays a montage of her growing up plays in my head
When music was real and tasteful. This song strikes a chord deep in the heart and the instrumentation has a tremendous amount of substance. Enjoy this music because it will never be the same again.
Shut up. Elton John him self would litterally disagree with you. He is the first to promote new and modern talented artists because YES, they still exist. But I agree, this song is pretty fucking amazing
@@aka.gnese07 I have listened to & do listen to a *LOT* of music both professionally, I'm a professional guitarist, & for pleasure & - in my opinion - there was no era like this for music. Rock was new & everything effectively post 1980 was really flogging a very tired horse. To keep the equine references going, you then had one trick dancing ponies like Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson, etc. who swapped musical integrity for £'s in sinking music to its lowest common denominator. Modern music has been broken down to its key components & has nowhere near the melodic complexity or structural intensity of music from this era. There are some contemporary people I like - *Father John Misty* is a genius but generally my playlist doesn't get much past the 80's.
@@aka.gnese07 what he would disagree with is ANYONE being RUDE, or not allowing any given person to express their opinion about their likes,or dislikes. This Era of musicality, and artistry will never be duplicated. Times, and music change. That is a fact of life. It was very special, and I'm so happy to have grown up with GREAT SINGERS AND MUSICIANS ! I don't mean to be rude by saying this, but has anyone ever taught you that if you don't have anything good to say, it's much better to remain silent ? You just sounded like such a mean person by saying "shut up"
@@pollyyoung7649 I apologize for that, you're right. I shouldn't have been so rude. I was trying to defend young people like me and I got offensive, sorry, but I still stand by what I said in the last comment, in the sense that we should NEVER discredit young modern artits. But now I also understand you're point, like this era of music will never be the same, but I also think that's beautiful because this era had a beggining a long time ago and it makes sense that now it's ended to let other genres and sounds grow into the history of music that are just as valid and beautiful. I want to be clear about that. I don't like the mentality of appreciating only "the good old times" 's art, just because when you were youg that's what you've learned to love and maybe you are not keen to understand the new generation's music (referring to the person I replyed to in the first comment) Also I'm not a native english speaker and a teenager and I'm sorry if I made mistakes
@@aka.gnese07 I think you may be right although you have to dig a lot deeper into the hills of modern music to find the gold. I am now officially getting old having just turned 60 but I have a son probably not far off your age who seems to think music had a lot more meaning & often stories attached to it back in the day. Two examples of this would be 4 songs he's been listening to of late from two artists. *Neil Young's* amazing "Alabama" & "Southern Man" were what caused *Lynyrd Skynyrd* to write "Sweet Home Alabama," Neil Young even gets called out in the song! The other example would be *James Taylor's* subliminal "Fire and Rain" written about the suicide of a close female friend. I don't know.... Things just had an integrity & authenticity to them back then & maybe a novel freshness & originally as Rock was only really a decade or so old! I even think music took the southern trajectory I think it is still on in the 80's when people started making music for the financial gain it could give them & maybe a perceived transient fame? It's just that people were consummate musicians & word smiths back in the day? Well done for apologising btw & congratulations on the use of my nation's language. 👍
For some reason, the "ballerina, you must've seen her-- dancing in the sand." line always chokes me up a bit. My daughter pretended to be a ballerina when she was 4 or 5 while at the beach one summer. I've never forgotten that moment. She's 22 now...😭
any other 3 yr olds in this chat? my mom introduced this masterpiece of a song to me and the early age of 1 minute while I was bing birthed and I instantly knew it wad the best song in the entire universe.
Elton and Bernie had the best written songs of the 70s! Even to this day they all stand up to the test of time. The talent of Elton is so underappreciated in today’s musical world. I remember listening to his songs on the radio and then by buying the albums. Even if you didn’t like the song if you listen to it a few times you still realize it was awesomely great. Elton is a true icon and in a very small group of legends. Not unlike Tom Petty or Edward van Halen. I think I’m going to go listen to my Goodbye Yellowbrick Road album now. Which happens to be the first album I ever bought when I was around 12 years old. I bought it for Bennie and the jets. And what a jackpot that album turned out to be as far as great music. Thank you Elton for the hundreds of great well written songs.
Whats up guys, its great to see all of the love this song is getting. I put this together when I was a sophomore in highschool and never expected it to get this many views. There is a major lack of appreciation in my generation for music for like this, and it makes me really happy to see all of the likes and positive comments! Rock on, Elton John! Will

I was 7 or 8 when this hit the airwaves. It enhanced my childhood to have great songs like this providing the soundtrack. The best songs were brilliant. Masterpieces that get better with age. With lyrics that grab you later in life. Saturated with nostalgia. But meaningful in their own right.

F. Dietrich So wasn't Freddie Mercury. Wgaff. Queen is my favorite band. Arguably best harmonizing group as well, only one's who come close is maybe.. Beatles and I'm not a huge fan. This is when Elton was pure gold. Bowie is up there too. Then 'Disturbed' is greatest current generation band, hands down.
