Tiny House Community: What is it really like? (Oregon) 

Karin just seems like such a lovely person. Nothing but positive energy and good vibes radiating from her.

This is just a beautiful way to blend personalities, to never be lonely if you don't want to be, and if you do want to be alone then just be. How awesome! I fully intend to live this way someday. Hopefully sooner than later. I'm 49 so I have time to get it together and enjoy the way of life I've been craving since I was in my 20's, just didn't know it was feasible. This is such a fit for Portland. I lived there way back in the 1970's and absolutely loved the city; it's like a small town dressed up like a big city. I lived in a 3-story Victorian with about 10 other girls, worked downtown, loved everything about Portland!

This is really good I wish there were more (any? ) like it in the UK. I have been building my cabin (it's ridiculous I've been saying that for around three years! I do have a valid excuse though.) I never realised exactly how much work clearing ex forestry land takes and the fact that it has to be replanted with indigenous broadleaved trees. Then we have to deter the deer from eating the little trees (it's ten thousand trees a year for the next four years! ) yeah and then there was the road, this involved my nephew excavating hundreds, possibly thousands of tons of stone to make the road and the area where my cabin is. It is a couple of miles long. We're on the last leg now and hopefully if the weather is a tad kinder to us I should be in by mid summer '18. The idea for the hot tub is brilliant. ..the bit my nephew quarried is going to have a sauna built overlooking it and, by then, it will be planted with water plants and hopefully the frogs and newts from the smaller ponds will move in as well as some fish. My sister got hold of two really elaborate columns and we'll make it into a proper Folly...I can't wait I've been frozen so often in Scotland that having a small cabin (12' x 20' with a sleeping loft but we'll also build in a bed like in the old crofts and I have a great wood burning cooking stove. I think your place is lovely and I keep sending videos like this to my Member of Parliament. ..I don't see why they don't do it with the amount of homeless people. ...having a place with a key of your own is something lots of homeless people dream about. ...it may mean communal kitchen and bathroom but to be able to close your own door is something many would love. Thanks for posting these videos I think it was yourself and Derek Diedrickson got me into tiny houses in the first place xx

If I was on my own, I would love this. I think it imperative that you find the right people. I wonder how often that takes some doing (to put it nicely). PS I have this dream of moving to Portland although I have never even visited that far west. If this is an example of the possibilities there, I am wanting it even more.

I remember when this was just a Japanese thing. Lol I'd only heard of a few communities in US before..one built in New Orleans to help with homelessness. Its good to hear there are more coming up

So, the electricity for the homes is it from the big house I didn't notice any solar panels of wind generators, also the water is that also from the big house? We have a lot of vacant lots here in Baltimore, I would love to see something like this with written living agreements, if the rent for the plot could be kept at a low price and possible (2) - (3) houses on a lot, or more depending on the lot size, this could make for a good alternative to high rent.

If I ever win the lotto I will be building my dream tiny home community!

Wow. so nice to see all the tiny house enthusiasts! Hi I am a veteran and biker who loves tiny houses and would like to become part of your community. I just don't own a tiny house yet. I would like to eventually build one as a portable office for my real estate property management office. Things are happening that will make this be reality but at the moment I just want to say to this community, that Jacuzzi idea is bogus. PUT IN A FIRE PIT! you will get more spiritual meaning out of that than any other use for the sunken circle area.

I'm moving into the Portland area hopefully within the next few years. I am wanting to get some land and do this with my family and some friends I consider family. Is that hard to do in Portland? Do all the structures have to be on wheels. Thanks for posting the video. Super cool.

its amazing how accomplishable this actually is. drop 20gs, a good month to build it yourself or hire a contractor, an you have a tiny house. you can do it too!

Sorry I would only live like that with my natural extended family. I don't do the whole communal thing with people I haven't known for years.

Instead of a hot tub or another tiny house you could have a tiny house/studio in that space and have visiting artists do residencies in the community.

ya, not having a job sucks, if they could come up with some projects, they could earn a good sum of money and still be in a comunity the best part members don't leave the other alone. and tey care for eachother. :) they could collectively start a small business or landscaping business :)

I could not live in a community, I would slap the first person to read me the guidelines.
