Found you while researching siding install for my home. This is exactly the detail I was looking for while siding around windows. Thnx so much for the detailed video

Political yard signs can be cut in strips and used in place of core-a-vent. You can add a screen or nylon stocking to the bottom if you are concerned about insects.

Great video and great attention to detail. My wife and I have a design-build firm in Austin, TX, and we’re building our first tiny home. Certain that there would be subtleties we’d want to consider, we started watching your videos and they are really a tremendous resource. You’re a great teacher and you’ve done a great job conveying the important parts of construction without being overwhelming or overly technical. Great, great work! Enjoying the videos!

Just ordered some Cor-A-Vent thanks to your video, I have been looking for a product like this for a long time and finally found the name and details of it thanks to you . Cheers!

Followed this method, and it worked great! I do regret not adding metal flashing behind the rainscreen/over the top edge of the window (below the trim), though, as i think that would take some of the pressure off the WRB and tape to keep the water out

Brilliant detail. Just built a backyard office with a rain screen and wish I had constructed it this way instead. Will definitely implement for a future build, thanks!

Great video! What type of wood is the exterior siding? Is that IPE?

Do you think the caulk up the sides of the window is even needed? I am considering a similar approach on normal house with rainscreen. Also have seen some high end builders say bugs are not an issue and the screens aren’t even needed. They say the air flow makes it not a welcoming space for bugs to live.

It looks like you pushed the Cor-A-Vent between the nailing strips, but that the Cor-A-Vent documentation asks that the product be continuous at the bottom and top of exterior wall -- any thoughts? tbh your way looks like it makes a stronger nailing surface for the starter siding.

in a different video he'd said you could do that too, matter of preference.

I like the trim detail, but am curious why you decided to use Vycor flashing tape? Doesn't the bitumen base react poorly with Tyvek? I also just don't love how much less sticky Vyvor is than other modern flashing tapes, especially the acrylic and butyl options.

Where are the "resources online linked below"?? .... about the buildups for the trim/ flashing over the rain screens? I dont see any links or info....

I may have missed it in the video, but does this work only on windows with a flange? My buddy followed your idea here, but on flangeless windows. I can see light through the window all the way around and it makes me nervous. Here in the PNW, minimal eaves… As a more experienced conventional builder, I’m just trying to help him without poo-pooing the unfamiliar-before he jambs and trims out his windows and it’s a lot harder to fix… Thanks for the video!!

I think I would feel more comfortable if the bottom of the window was caulked so that all of the water from window doesn't run straight behind the siding. Besides that, I think it looks quite elegant.

Caulk at the bottom of the window will trap water. Most windows have weep holes at the bottom so any water can drain to the outside rather than the inside. A previous owner caulked the weep holes on the bottom of my bathroom window that shared a wall with the tub/shower. The water from the shower found its way to the basement through the cinderblock wall and ruined the paneling in the downstairs bath.
