I love saving and investing and living in this tiny 80 square foot apartment with dirt cheap rent has helped me save and invest so much money. I just think people only view success as someone living in a big house with a nice car and I actually think that's misleading because what it takes to succeed is often living well below your means. Hopefully this gets people excited about tiny living. 80 square feet is the legal limit for how small an apartment can be in New York City. That's my understanding anyway. Hope you guys enjoy! If I could find a place that costs this inexpensive in the City- nevemind the outskirts or across the river, I’d take that. There is NO SUCH thing here in the northeast- as far as I’ve looked..and I’ve searched far and wide. The big problem now is avoiding illness without your own bathroom. You’d have to thoroughly clean it eveytime, even when you can’t hold it! Best wishes to you. I hope something good comes up. 🙏🏼

And someone mentioned that at the head of ur bed u could put some corner shelves that wouldn't take up any of ur room.u can put 2 or 3 of them up the wall in the corner and give urself even more storage. Keep up the work and keep saving that money. It's so easy to fix stuff urself instead of paying someone else to do stuff, like u said about the faucet. Sounds like ur handy and installing some shelving will be a breeze for you. Check out the tiny microwaves at Walmart, they were like 79 bucks.

My first apartment used to be dorms (like back in the 60s) that were then rennovated into apartments in the 80s. The entire apartment used to be a dorm, so basically about the size of a bedroom. I wouldn't mind living there again if I ever found myself living alone. Being my very first place of my own, I have warm fuzzies thinking about it. I had a bunk bed, where the upper part was a twin size bed and the lower part was empty to leave room for a desk. Except I just used it for storage. My desk/table was one of those "breakfast in bed" trays with legs. I'd just sit on the floor and use that like a very tiny Japanese table. I had a "kitchen" which had a mini fridge (about the size of the one here). Mini stove/oven that only had 2 burners, and the oven could fit a 9X12 baking pan. And a small sink, it was the only sink, so it doubled as a bathroom sink for brushing teeth.. My "bathroom" was a toilet and shower in the corner. I rigged up a curtain to give it some privacy in case anyone was over. That was it. No closet, so I just got a little self standing clothing rack. I didn't have a TV. It didn't matter because between going to school, working, hanging out with friends; I wasn't home a whole lot other than a place to sleep, take a shower and maybe grab a bite to eat before running out to my next thing. I was still just a teenager, (I'd escaped a really BAD home life, but I won't get into that), so it was like the most awesome bedroom. Compared to where/how I was living before, having my own place was peaceful, and I felt safe. Can't put a price on that. But the rent was $280 (and not in NYC).

I wish I were there and had truck.......you would be missing that white dresser and mirror. Gorgeous piece of furniture. Good for you. Looks like you have made do with a very small space. @Soupy Anderson I think he is accumulating far more than $600 savings per month - I do not believe he has divulged his actual income, he has only talked about how he lives frugally in NYC. That is the first place I look, the walls, are you kidding, I could put a ton of stuff on those walls and even hang some things from the ceiling, oh yeah and get a high level bed and look at all the space under a bed, so there is places right in your face no one is using. Their are loads of many sizes of appliances for cooking, toaster ovens, coffee makers, electric skillets, mini microwave ovens, all the way across that mirror a shelf to put all of your small appliances and pack your clothes under the bed, I promise that guy a girl would have a genius set-up that a guy just does not have in their DNA, they just don't get it. The bed is 2 big, get a small twin and that is all you need to lay down on. now look at the more space you have freed up for storage. Get rid of that mirror in back of the sink, and put in more selves and use a portable folding mirror and presto more storage room.

You are living in an urban tiny house. It appears like you absolutely made the most of your space and your positive attitude carries you. Good thing your dogs are small, I had images of an Old English Sheepdog in that space. I live part-time in a converted Promaster van which is smaller than your place. When I am in that space I'm often boondocking in very isolated places without any amenities, including a bathroom and running water. I do this by choice, and I find that I have everything that I need. I cart my in water and get my energy from solar panels on the van's roof. I actually use an induction hot plate, I cook using the energy from the sun! You can live in a 5000 square foot house and be miserable or an 80 square foot apartment and be happy. I worked two years at one of the most intense Housing Development county departments (Broward, FL), and this was the conclusion I came to after seeing all the programs. County, state and federal agencies do their best to provide affordable housing, but they fall short in numbers. If they'd decrease the size (and keep quality) of the housing options, they could help so many more citizens to be independent or at least not homeless. Primarily this could be welcomed by single people.

My husband and I have downsized drastically after realizing 80% of where we lived was unused space. We now live in a 500 sq ft apartment and love it.

@Ozer Arkis Why do you need 190 guitars? 2 would be more than adequate.

@@elouise5593 that's a very non guitarist thing to say. Guitars do different things, have different sound and tell different stories. I only have 2 guitars (1 electric 1 acoustic) and I feel like Im not nearly done buying more

That’s great, it’s totally doable! I live in a small 500-600 foot apartment with a roommate and it totally works

That’s all I would need. Nice. I’ve always said. I would rather live in a cardboard box and have a pocket full of money than have a nice big place and be broke.

You’re amazing, and you still manage to have two dogs, wow! Amazing how well you keep it up and have a place for all your necessities.
