If these synths have the same output and DACs as the BlackBox don't let the size fool you, these are VERY BIG sounding synths with the best sound possible. I own a BlackBox and I was completely shocked on the high sound quality of the samples I played in and manipulated then output via a keyboard.

Another great demonstration video, Bo, always love your take on new instruments. I’m a huge fan of granular Synthesis, but apart from the Tasty Chips GR1 - yeah, too rich for my blood at about $2,499US - there haven’t been many hardware granular synths to choose from. At $399US for a brand new one, I may take the plunge. I’ve been streamlining my studio for space and workflow, but looks as if this little beauty will fit anywhere.

Love your vids Bo and this is another great review! Unfortunately I personally don’t see these as a great product. Although I’m sure I would have fun with them the price doesn’t make any sense. There are many phone apps that do the same functions even better than this for a fraction of the cost. Now I would much more enjoy something like this but it has to offer something more unique and the price should be at the most 150. The Bastle boxes and the Pocket Operators and similar products may be on a different level when it comes to production quality but that’s the charm of them and at there price range it’s hard to resist. There is so many other things I’d like to get at that price range. Like the sp 404 mkii or the 2 new eurorack Buchla modules. Plus the colors and design are really not very appealing at all. I’m glad you reviewed this though because I think it’s worth getting a good look at first before making a decision!

Polyend tracker’s “granular” is shit bro, not even real granular. 1 grain granular is just a sampler. If you want a budget granular I’d waitlist for plinky tbh. IMO the only true hardware granular synths out atm are the tasty chips GR-1 and the microgranny (really Lo-Fi and budget).

These are absolutely adorable. But for that price you can buy an iPad (US$329 for 10” 64GB base model) and have money left over to buy several great music apps like Tardigrade (granular), NanoStudio (wavetable / VA / samples / sequencer / DAW), Mononoke (weird Lyra-8-like) … No hardware knobs or buttons, but the screen is much bigger and higher resolution, it’s got way more storage, and obviously you can install zillions more music apps most of which cost under $20. So I really don’t see the value in one of these, sadly.

I'll be purchasing a lemon drop later in the year for sure. But i really dont know why they dont add battery options to their devices. Part of the reason why i sold my blackbox was because of a lack of battery, its portable but then you need to power it with something separate which really kills its form factor tbh. @kvnvk8947
@kvnvk8947 2 года назад
@@zoiksandmorezoiks2719 The microKorg has a standard MIDI out, should work fine, the adaptor is included with the Lemondrop, you'd just need a standard 5 pin MIDI cable. As far as sampling vinyl, the Lemondrop can only process input audio in real time, you would have to pre-record your samples and drop them onto the micro SD card. Finally, running the output of the Lemondrop to your pedal board shouldn't pose any problems, I've been processing line level synths through pedals for almost three decades without any issues, only thing, you may need to turn the synth volume down a bit to avoid clipping, unless that's what you want, lol!

@@kvnvk8947 that’s really helpful thanks! will have a think..seems lovely bit of kit but serious price tag too.

I'm curious what the main differences are between the Lemondrop and the granular sample engine in the Blackbox? Maybe it's polyphony and the layering of oscillators but as far as the granular options they look pretty similar.

Great video as ever, Bo, and these two devices look class. How would you compare the Lemon to the Digitakt? Worth considering the former if you already have the latter?

Since the lemon is a synth it pairs well with the Digitakt!

@@BoBeats Sorry, I'm quite new to all this. I was thinking it's sample-based, like the Digitakt, so I was thinking they were broadly similar, but I'm obviously mistaken.

Not sure if plugging the red Fireball usb cable to the Lemondrop is legal, but great demo regardless!

The lemondrop seems interesting, but the price tag for sucha small unit .. is a bit steep I think. I already have an Argon8, so there is no need for the Fireball to me.

Hej Bo, kan man koppla en Arturia MicroKey (USB midi only) till Lemon enheten? Borde vara bra om du kunde inkludera Connectivity i dina tester. Tack för en underbar kanal 👍🇸🇪

Hey Bo! Wondering which you'd suggest to a synth noob: getting the Korg Minilogue XD, or a modular synth of the same price. Love modular and think it's really interesting, but I think it might be too much for someone new? Wondering what your thoughts are!

Keystep pro, Blackbox, Bluebox, Lemondrop, Fireball, and Razzamatazz (or whatever they're calling it) = complete system...compact with no interconnection issues...would be very nice to play....but that's a lot of money.

So could I sample from a vinyl record into lemon drop then use the output to feed into my pedal board? I actually really like my micro Korg but not sure if that could be a keyboard controller for lemondrop

Since 1010 music has a history of offering multiple types of firmware to change the functionality of their devices (like the 1010 Bitbox Mk2) and since the fireball and lemon drop are identical in hardware except for their color, I wonder if you buy one, if they will (in the future) allow you to switch The device FW with the SD card so in effect, you get two different devices on one hardware platform..

The lemondrop does seem pretty awesome. Does it have a sequencer? How did you play it on the bus without a midi controller? Or do you need a midi controller?
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 2 года назад
Theres a small keyboard (should have shown this better) and theres a basic sequencer (see the ”similarities” section)

Which other wavetable synth can be run with batteries or Powerbank(You compared in the video)?

One other missed opportunity that might be addressable with a firmware update is number of envelopes and LFOs. I am not sure which parameters are modulation targets, but hopefully effects parameters are targets. I guess we can't expect everything in a small package. Besides battery power, I would like to see power from a non-USB external supply. MIDI over USB would be useful, too. As for pluses, they units are small and cute, sound great based on the videos that dropped today, and appear to be good pairings for the BlackBox and BlueBox. I wonder if there will be Eurorack module versions?

I would wish for future versions of those synths a USB Device connectivity, so that you can plug in a USB keyboard (I think of Qunexus or other tiny things). Since both are little computers (Raspberrys ?) that should be easily possible, even on the current hardware, if the USB port is internally not detached. We could then connect via an OTG connection or something like that.
