Gonna be honest. This song helped me get out of a bad relationship 6 years ago. Crazy how music can affect and influence you so much.

And there's the moment when you realize you're the girl in the song in a "relationship". The lyrics helped me come to that realization.

After 8 years in a bumpy relationship this song always comes back to me. Music is such a beautiful gift to this world. I don't think I would still be here without it.

Its interesting to see the difference from this song where 'you are beautiful but you dont mean a thing to me' compared to most songs that are like 'you are beautiful and that means everything to me'. These lyrics haunt me they are so good.

This reminds me of a strange relationship I had. You know.. the ones where you never officially declare each other a couple, but can't stand to be apart... spending all day holding hands, cuddling, and making out... and then suddenly, it's over. But you still have that "love" for each other after all this time.

It`s strange how this song made me more confortable with what someone did to me... It seems like I can get a little in his shoes, and then for a moment I wasn't the one who got hurt. For a moment hurting and being hurt is just a good material for songs.

I've lied about loving someone that was in love with me and having to live with that lie and pretend that everything was fine broke me. I still can't forgive myself for what I did. This song describes that perfectly

This song is absolutely amazing He creates a knife with his words and music and jams it into your heart. Ben is a gifted songwriter.

i wouldnt say he doesnt empathize. i mean he knows he hurt her, and is in pain over it, at least thats how i interpret it. he wanted so hard to love her and clearly thinks she deserves that, but you cant force love and when you do it can get messy and cause situations like this. Believe me i know from personal experience.

This is perfect; it sums up where I am at the moment. Knowing that the person you're seeing is incredible in every sense of the word, but then knowing that they're incapable of providing any sort of affection until they're in bed with you. People mess you up & this video is a 4 minute culmination of every feeling i've felt like expressing, but couldn't, in the last few years. To whoever uploaded this video, thank you.

I’ve been both people in this song. I have to admit that I wanted to love someone this song reminds me of. They were the most beautiful person to have ever drawn a breath into their lungs. I couldn’t love them because I still loved someone else that hurt me. Everything about the woman was intense and wonderful. The things that could have been if I wasn’t so broken at the time. I washed her hair, her back, legs and feet, almost worshiping her. Every time I kneeled at her alter, I felt empty and unworthy of her affection. I eventually plead to her to fix me and my broken soul and she tried. Broken people break people. I was and in some ways are still too far gone. I miss her. I will always wonder where we would be if I were capable of letting her have the best of me. I only now realize I had a love for her. It wasn’t a romantic love like I wanted, but a love as a healer, because she held me as I shattered. I love her as a protector, because she shielded me from myself. I love her as a savior, because she saved me from me in bad times. I have become better now, but refrain from her, because I don’t deserve to try again. I wish I had done everything with her.

I didn't mean a thing to him, and it WAS vile and it WAS cheap. Cheap love, not even love, just a tiny sliver of lust. Stupid. Interesting to see it now from his prospective. I just wish I'd known before everything.

death cab is, and will always will be, my favorite. I love the meanings in the lyrics, and everything else about their songs.

In my mind, when I think about the song, he was visiting California and met a girl..and spent some time with her..not just one night, maybe a few days or more. And they got along well, even if he knew he would be leaving and never seeing her again. He didn't care about that fact. However the girl might not feel the same way. I don't see it as a one night stand more as something that lasted a few days. =p

I feel like this must be every girl's biggest fear.

I'm talking to this girl I met in class, who I really like, and she has Raynaud's disorder, which is where her blood vessels are too small for her blood to warm the tips of her fingers and toes. This song has a crazy amount of meaning to me.

Hell yeah. The song alone gives the most honest expression of how i often feel, and the video almost equally illustrates the idea. It definitely adds to the gritty and oldie (i don't know how to describe it,) vibe I always got from DFC since I was a kid. Props.

This song has the truest lyrics I've ever heard

"so one last touch, and then you'll go, and we'll pretend that it meant something so much more." I wouldn't say he played her at all. I'd say they were *both pretending* that what they were doing was special, but they both knew it was very wrong.

I'm glad that something I made could have an effect on someone like that. When I was firt making it, some of the scenes did kinda give me a 'heart lurch'. I felt really sucked in to this story of these people! It's heartbreaking!

Isn’t it kind of ironic how this song leads into ‘transatlanticism’, in which the narrator is desperately pining for someone he loves to be ‘so much closer’, when in this song he basically uses a girl that he doesn’t care about.

Such good filmography with the song plays levels of emotions for me. Good job on the video and by far one of my favorites from DCFAC

This song is hard to listen to considering this was just done to me and I feel so broken but this song is the truth of life and all its ugliness.

this song is brutal.. the perfect breakup song for someone like me who got dumped by a girl who was out of my league. it got me through the worst of it in fact.. and i put it on a mix-cd i gave her afterwards and i knew it affected her. (we were kinda still trying to be friends for a while). it's such a brutal song that later on i felt pretty bad about it.. i found out she had latched onto it and it became one of her favorite songs. (but in a masochistic way) i mean it's a great damn song but it's not how i felt.. she was beautiful and she meant a lot to me. using it in the hopes that it would hurt her always makes me feel guilty and i'll always regret it. i told her a while later that she shouldn't read too much into the songs that i put on the cd for her and she was like "ok that's good to know because i was worried you really felt that way" referring to this song, and i felt terrible. she broke it off in the nicest way possible btw.. she didn't do anything (that i was aware of) that would justify my extreme bitterness.. that's why i felt bad later

Great video. It is one of the worst kinds of feelings, knowing you aren't doing anything wrong, knowing you two are perfect for each other, but you somehow can't get the affection you want from the person you love. It is frustrating on both ends.
