Tip for more sea kayak control
Free lesson for moving with your kayak with more ease and agility:
www.dancingwiththesea.com/fun...
In this video you will learn a tip to quickly develop way more kayak control without learning anything that requires skills.
Anyone can master this in less than one hour of paddling.
You can even do this while on a regular paddle with your friends.
It will give you more control when turning in the waves. So you feel a lot more secure in whatever conditions you find yourself in.
Yes the Greenland paddle will give you more than enough support to avoid a capsize...If you learn how to use it like this.
After practicing the exercise in this video, extending your paddle will be automatic.
If you don’t practice this, you will have to think about it when you need more support or leverage.
When you find yourself out of balance, on your way to the water, you want your paddle to automatically extend to give you the extra support that ensures you can bring yourself back in balance quickly.
And avoid the embarrassing swim.
One of the great features of the Greenland paddle is that it is designed to be easy and comfortable to move in your hands. The blades of the paddle are narrow. One reason for this is to have the blade fit comfortably in the palm of your hand.
Now if you don’t have the habit to extend the paddle, you may have to think about which hand to move first. And it could take a second to do it. It may not feel smooth and natural.
It might even be awkward.
When you move your hands in a specific way every time, that’s when it becomes quick and smooth.
After a bit of practice, it’s automatic.
You want to start by bringing your hands closer together, and then moving your other hand away. So if you’re extending the paddle on your right side, move your right hand closer to your left, and then move your left hand further up the blade.
You could practice doing this until you get good at it, but there is a more effective, and less tedious way to do it.
I recommend you just practice extending your paddle while paddling.
If you have a storm paddle it’s a perfect time to get it out and practice paddling with it.
If you don’t have a storm paddle you can still extend your paddle a little. You don’t have to extend it all the way to develop muscle memory. All it takes is repeating the motion.
After a few minutes you don’t even have to think about it.
You can enjoy the scenery.
As you practice this even for just an hour or less, you will already notice that you can extend the paddle very quickly. And it’s smooth and effortless.
When you find yourself paddling in the waves, you automatically extend the paddle to feel completely comfortable. You just place it in the water in the bracing position.
If you want to learn how to be stable in the waves, just visit my website DancingWithTheSea.com
When you get into the bracing position with the paddle extended,
you feel like there’s no way you could go over.
You may find that you start to extend the paddle when you want to turn. Why not, it makes the turn more effective. And it feels easier.
Especially if you are turning in the wind.
When you combine this paddle extension with other skills like edging. And bracing, you become very stable and agile. If you want to learn how to move with your kayak with more ease and agility, I recommend you take my free mini course. You will learn why it’s so critical to wear your kayak. And how to create that perfect fit that lets you move with your kayak with ease and finesse.
That’s the first step. You can sign up with the link in the description.
Thanks for watching.

SO true. Traditional paddles have a lot of advantages, and the ability to slide them quickly over and use the _whole_ paddle is one of the greatest of them all. The paddle basically works as a lever, so to quote Archimedes: "...the ratio of the weight moved to the weight moving it is the inverse ratio of the distances from the centre. Now the greater the distance from the fulcrum, the more easily it will move." When you're a paddler in a kayak, _you_ are the fulcrum. The end result, as Paulo says, is making bracing, turns and stability become almost effortless.
