Here's another trick that actually works. No lie. Do NOT wear thick socks! Try thin wool socks or some thin synthetic sock. If your boot has decent insulation you'll appreciate that extra layer of warm air around your feet. Use toe warmers on your heel and toes if you need that extra oomph.
After 10 years of hunting I found the perfect combination of socks to keep my feet dry and warm. First a pair of wrangler ultimate work socks, they fit great but more importantly they're moisture wicking!! Over those I wear midweight wool socks. Also put those thermal insoles in my boots. My feet sweat a LOT and since changing to this setup my feet have been dry and warm on those long hunts
Awesome info! A lot of these hunting channels make it seem like their hiking around in crispi laponias in 5 ft of snow. I call bs. So much goes into winter feet and these tips and tricks are super helpful.
I do that trick to when it is brutally cold and the wind is blowing in my favor (which means it's blowing straight at me 😂). I have tried the Arctic Shield boot covers over my boots with little success. My feet are completely warm when I take off my boots and put on those Baffin camp booties. It's all about keeping your feet non-constricted and free-flowing circulation. Try it for yourself. You'll see.
Why don’t you just wear boot covers when you’re glassing? Arctic shield make some really good ones and they’re pretty light weight. They fit right over your boot and zip up. Then when you need to go hike or if you need to make a move on animal you just take them off and your boots are ready to go.
Sure that’s another option. I tend to like things that have multiple uses and I need the booties for sleeping in anyways so they double as feet warmers during the day and I don’t have to carry two different pieces of gear.
@@MindfulHunter I wear mine with no boots on at camp just as you would use your booties. They never go into my sleeping quilt at night but I also don't need to put a down coat over them while I'm glassing. Are you taking an extra down jacket with you to cover your booties while glassing? Also during hunting light I don't ever want to be caught with my boots off.
