Biggest tip I got was $70 and the guy told me if I want a few extra digits on my check I could work at his family coffee shop down the street and I was allowed to have free coffee and allowed to take 2 meals each day for the first month of work proud to say I still work there to this day

Simba speaking nothing but FACTS. My first job ever was as a hostess at Applebee's. Was it the job of my dreams...hell nah. But it was convenient because it was literally a fifteen minute walk away from my university. I was making $4.50 an hour and hardly got tips. Never complained tho, considering the majority of my job was sitting people down at a table with menus and busting the tables when those people left. Definitely hated that job with a passion, plus management was TRASHHHHH. (Lowkey one of em was stealing tips off the bartenders at the end of the night.)

Tipping is NOT universal, fam. In fact, in Japan tipping is considered AN INSULT because they don't expect their customers to pay extra for their best quality of service! I do tip in the States, but I avoid places that have people who "work for tips only," because they're not workers; they're SLAVES! We as a collective need to eradicate the practice of "supplementing" or, in some cases, OUTRIGHT PAYING employees' wages ON TOP OF what we paid for the product/service that's going straight to the employer's pockets as profit!

What i don't understand is why workers are arguing *in favor* of tipping culture. Do they get thousands of dollars in tips every night or something? I can only imagine they make it out with 30 dollars a day at best under a 5 dollar per hour payroll, wouldn't they WANT to protest their employers for underpaying them, and be on our side?

I used to work as a stocker in a grocery store, note they force stockers to pretty much do every other position WHILE still have to do our regular stuff AND WE WAS NIGHT SHIFT SO ALREADY RED FLAG, but stockers were forced to take peoples carts to their cars,if they asked for it, but the SPECIFICALLY OLD PEOPLE were the only one who tipped us, then later during that year our head boss started enforcing a no tip rule, so already with my regular duties as a stocker, i had to stop what IM SUPPOSED TO DO AND CARRY SOMEONE ELSE SHIT AND GET NO TIP? Here's a fun one. I'm from the Netherlands and one time i told a waiter to keep the change since it was like 10 or 20 cents. She had to go ask her boss if that was even allowed. I was at a IHop once and there was a server that was serving an entire side of the restaurant, doing 110% of the work and doing it with an infectiously upbeat attitude. Me and my fam genuinely dapped her up and I think we gave her 50 bucks. She was a legit server deserving of more than just a "tip".

One of my family memebers doesnt like how i dont tip when i order food deliveries to our house just because i wanted to save money. Like i understand in this age people are struggling for work and bills, so tipping helps them alot and make you look like a good generous person, but the same time, i have my own finacial limits too, and some people dont deserve tips anyways

I was a restaurant manager for over 25 years. At the time servers made $2.65 an hour and their tips are calculated by the government assuming their tips make up the difference for minimum wage. It is the government not the restaurant as far as servers. The government also makes them report the tips after every shift when they clock out, also if the government feels that you haven't claimed enough tips they will assume you got the tips and tax you for more anyway. You had me cracking up by the way 😂

People love tipping in America I use to work a job were I gave parking ticket to events and would make 60 dollars a day in tip I literally did nothing but give them a ticket and they would tip me.

Where I am it's ranging from $13-16 an hour, but you just get royally fucked over with your hours over here so even THAT much per hour gets relatively hard to work around due to such low amount of hours, and with the prices of APARTMENTS nowadayws you'd only be able to afford that shit on a *full time* $15+ per hour job

Ngl I be happy when I get tips even tho I work at Wendy's. There's this one dude who always comes through for the same thing but since I work closing we end up with like 1-3 people and I end up having to take the order, cash them out, drop food 99% of the time, make sandwiches, drinks. Tipping culture is how the resturant industry transfer their risk to someone else. Just include the "tip" into the price of the food; it's that simple, but the tip-excluded low price makes customers think that the food is not expensive.

My mom was a waiter and managed to take care of me and my needs while going to collage for a medical degree, she managed to graduate and get a really good job and paid off her huge student loan and she's living good, its actually the reason we always tip if you are nice. Girl asked for $40 in cash back and I can’t even remember our conversation. It was December but damn that surprise the hell out of me I was so thankful 🥹. An older man would tip me a few bucks cause I knew his grandson and sometimes my coworkers would get small token of appreciations and it speaks volumes to the customer service we provide.
