Thank you Capt RL, An extraordinary informative, exponentially charged information session. You succeed clearly where most people flounder amid hours. Those whom master their craft go back to the fundamentals. All of the other videos online focus on the ego and the glory. So glad to see this video. Based on my experience, I can see chumming the dual water column while putting in the time is where I fell short within my endeavors/adventures. Thanks for teaching & showing the way. Onward offshore, respecting wildlife & saving for the next generation. -JD
I have a question only circle hooks for reef fishing live or artificial correct? Trolling with live bait circle hooks mandatory or you can use J hooks I’m confused on regulations thanks Neil
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.. See the excusive yellowtail video for the keys here on our channel ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4_574NA26oI.htmlsi=lGzhxFzvgg1B2C8m
So glad i found your channel. I just started bringing my kayak off the beaches in the treasure coast area. Already got Spanish mackerel, margate, mutton and mangrove snapper in just 20-40’ of water. This channel is exactly the wealth of knowledge I needed. BTW, the audio from your mic is clipping. Can help you fix that if you haven’t figured it out yet.
Awesome man, I'm glad you got some use from it. The Keys patch fishing can be painful for folks, I was hopeful this would shed some light on how to do it hard core.. I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching! Fish on! (about the mic, recorded in an environment that returned tons of reverb. It was very bad. So unfortunately, in 2 videos I had to de-reverb and it's choppy. Thank you for offering!
I'm down here now. Took the girlfriend out yesterday. Patience is something I have plenty of, but succumbed to the pressure. Moved too many times. Today I went alone. I stayed on the spot and chumed 4 blocks. Limited out on yellowtail. And 2 mangroves. Stick and stay!
Chum cages from Lee Fisher company.. See it at the following link.. a.co/d/8GAP1Xl This one will hold exactly one standard chum block.. I like to fish with 2 cages. One off the bow and midship, or stern at varying depths but you need at least one cage so you can weight it on the inside of the cage, and set it to drop to the depth you want it. And it WILL stay there.
@neilmattison Thanks! Yes, sometimes we sure will. They're pretty cheap and go bad quick if you don't use them. I won't start out with that method, I would wait an hour or so into the chum chain at one spot, be sure some flags or good fish are in your slick before doing it.
Thanks for all the info so while fishing in keys reefs is it mandatory circle hooks live or artificial then while trolling live bait can. you use j hooks I’m a little confused thanks again Neil
Neai, yeah it's a tuff nut to crack with the types of hooks. if you're fishing on the surface in your cum line for YT and Flags, it's still a "Gray" area whether or not it's ok to use J-hooks because snapper are considered bottom fish. But. we're not fishing on the bottom... When fishing directly on the bottom/reefs etc, we are told to use only circle hooks. Beyond those 2 criteria, concerning jigs, trolling etc.. Little bit Gray. I agree. Management call! ;-)
We normally use Momoi and Jinkai mainly, We'll use Suffix for a soft leader for a good presentation of soft baits, lures or swim baits now and then.. Overall, I recommend to stick with Momoi and/or Jinkai. Worth every penny.
Awesome video. Thank you. What did you ever end up doing with the glass minnows? Will dead bait work? Dead squid? Ballyhoo? Or does it really need to be live bait? Are sabiki rigs effective at catching bait in the Keys? We use them a lot for live bait in Central Florida but I wasn’t sure if they work down there.
