It's more necessary in men's gymnastics. They have a lot of skills that require a good middle but they don't do leaps, so their front splits tend to be worse. I've heard that for men in general middle splits comes easier than front while for women it's the opposite, but I'm really not convinced about that one.
@@millacabral9475 when i was little i could only do the middle (im a woman) now i can do neither but im definetly more comfortable practicing the middle split
I learned from a Shaolin monk that when you're that low to the ground. Someone just needs to push you down to get you to fully split. But that's shaolin Monk stuff. It's torture/abuse in the U.S.
That sounds something like my Sensei (karate) would do. It happened and at the moment it felt so good but 30 minutes after it started to hurt. My leg was sore for weeks, but at least I know I'm able to do it, haha
basically from like 5-12 years old our coaches will push us down all the way while doing oversplits but we just stop doing it as we get older because we get lazy
I still have all 3, I spent roughly 1.5 hours a week just on leg flexibility. I'm 20 years old, and it's already way harder to maintain the middle split at this age especially through injuries
I literally weight 3 times more than them and not many years ago I could still do the splits ( I do have Ed’s though so naturally bendy ) these boys are so fit and healthy and amazing at gymnastics I’m shocked it’s not easy for them
@@Appaddict01 No you can just keep up with flexibility, not long ago Yordan Yovchev could still do a leg raised middle split as a rings specialist at like 50 years old
Trough all my gymnastics carreer in italy we always had splits every day in our training but I m not surprised this is what’s happening in the Us team (where neither some of the girls can hit them lmao)
I’m so bewildered because I’ve never once seen any study demonstrating how adult males can get hip extension mobility. I only started stretching this year at 21. I’ve made considerable improvement in flexion and abduction, but I have made zero progress at hip extension even though I’ve been working on it very intensely for 6 months
To elaborate on what pancake stretch means, it's a middle split with your arms out parallel with your legs and your chest on the floor. So you're all the way flat like a pancake. (But the back of your thighs and glutes are on the floor, otherwise you're laying down "spread eagle".)
I'm ten I'm a level four gymnast and yes boy gymnast can do a split I have a friend that's a boy his name is Lamar his my best student I teach all my friends gymnastics my best friend Athena can do the splits but she's a level three 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
This is SHAMEFUL for a gymnast. Don't you guys warm up in splits every day?? It's a bit less bad for the front splits but you guys do all sorts of skills that require a good middle split, wtf 😂😂 tkatchev, flairs, straddle planche, bhavsar, etc. Also, don't you have to show decent flexibility for floor routines? I'm so confused by this revelation 😅😂😂
I'm like Ian and my middle split is better than my front bc I'd do the butterfly stretch all the time. Still have a good way to go before getting all the way down, but still a lot better than most people
