In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ru-vid.comUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

Another question you could ask is how much more you'd be willing to spend to get what you need for safety reasons. In the Pacific North West it can nasty quickly and for me safety is essential. This helped me with all my discissions.

Consider buying a unit that has been in continuous production for a long time vs. something from companies that is constantly introducing "new" products frequently. That is why I have a Koden/Sitex CVS-128.

@@JESSEPAVON my Garmin and hummingbird are both regular SV or SI. I have them dialed in so I can tell the approximate size of fish 30 or 40 feet off to my left or right. I'm sure I could find more fish with a mega side imagining but I know my lakes well enough to go to a point, pocket or brush pile to tell right away if there are any good bass or crappie in the area. I fish heavily pressure smaller lakes (about 1000 to 2500 acres) in Louisiana. As of January 2022 I still have both. Both finders are still worth what I paid for them. I use regular SI or SV, old school 2d and the map mostly on a 3 split screen.

Nice video. Very clear voice and quality video. So I picked up a Garmin UHD93SV on sale for $699. I have to pickup a trolling motor, but MK's don't work w/ the Garmin for contour autopilot which would be perfect for my lake fishing. The Garmin trolling motors are too expensive which provide the feature too... So I got a nice deal on the fish finder and a nice MK Terrova w/ iPilot, but after spending all that money, I still don't have Contour autopilot or Livescope yet. Hoping one day the LiveScope will be less than $1500 and will buy next year as a treat to myself... If I find a deal on a use Hummingbird, most likely will buy a small screen Helix just for the contour autopilot capability, which the MK trolling motor i buy now has to include a transducer and iPilot Link addition. Definateily gotta do research and take time to plot our future goals so you don't make a mistake on the first 2 most important... Fish Finder and Bow Trolling Motor. P.S. - I can't believe someone thumb downed your video??? ;o)

I was hoping you would cover the smaller units and which is best. I fish strictly from a kayak. I have been using the Humminbird heli 5. My problems is I can not get any clarity in shallow water. The average depth I fish in is 2 to 6 foot of water with a max anywhere of 12. Don’t need anything except to see bait fish and fish and structure and bottom. Shopping for the right unit is to confusing. Please just make a recommendation for a small unit best bang for the buck for my needs. I will go with that. Max budget is around 200. Thanks

I’ve spent thousands trying to get a bottom machine that will work in shallow water and deep water over 100 fathoms while commercial fishing. Call me dumb but I just couldn’t get it to show that little incline of gravel in deep water. A 6 foot difference. I settled on a hondex for inshore waters and a big koden for deep water. Both machines have the best transducer and the hodex should do it. I use simrad for plotter auto pilot radar combo. And olex bottom imaging.

All of the brands have strictly enforced MRP pricing. So if you see a price at west marine or academy is the price no matter where you go. Unless the unit is refurbished or remanufactured then it's accordingly discounted.
@InDepthSonar
@InDepthSonar 3 года назад
MRP is also suspended many times through the year. Buying from smaller retailers rather than chain stores can usually help you get around MRP. It's also illegal to enforce in many places like where I'm from in Canada
@devinmartin7626
@devinmartin7626 3 года назад
@@InDepthSonar no it's not suspended, and there's a reason there are so few certified distributors and installers by you
@InDepthSonar
@InDepthSonar 3 года назад
@devin Martin reread my response. Many manufacturers suspend MRP through the year. Black Friday is a prime example. MAP is there to do what you said... Keep the price the same everywhere. That doesn't mean you can't seem it for less... It just means you can't Advertise (M"A"P) for less. MRP is the minimum price they want you to sell it for. Ask any manufacturer rep on how they will enforce that. Any retailer with a little creativity can get around that if it was enforced

My new 18 ft G3 18 ft Angler I'm picking up this spring 2022 will have an Ulterra trolling motor with a Mega Di transducer built in. So I was considering a 9 inch Humminbird Mega di screen on the front deck where I also hope to use my new 9 inch Garmin ice fishing Livescope witrh transducer on a seperate deck mounted pole. I usually troll a lot with my present Terrova on my smaller side console boat and will likely continue to troll a lot with the Ulterra flat lining. I'm wondering whether to install a similar Humminbird at the helm but would want to be able to use it with or when the trolling motor is not deployed ( with a transom mount transducer) .I there some sort of netorking needed to do this? Is Navionics still the best mapping for Georgian Bay and larger inland lakes in the Parry Sound area and will it work on new Humminbirds being a Garmin product ? What is the best chart plotter / fish finder choice for updating existing or creating your own contour maps on smaller inland lakes in central Ontario? A lot to consider for a new boat. Coming from a single Lowrance Elite 7 FS with side scan presently. Your advice would be appreciated.
@InDepthSonar
@InDepthSonar 2 года назад
For networking two helix unit you'll need an Ethernet cable and two Ethernet adapters. Navionics+ would be the best chart for that area and it will work with Humminbird. I think Humminbird autochart live is the best mapping today so get a Zerolines card as well and you should be all set

I bought a 7 sv Garmin in 2016. I made my 1436 jon into a bass boat in 2016. It's going strong today. My 7 inch hummingbird helix I bought 2 years ago is on my transom. Both were good buys. After a few years I think 2 fish finders are over kill on local lakes. After a while you will learn ever corner, brush pile, channel swing, or rock pile. Time on the water making way points will negate big 12 inch mega imaging if your fishing the same 2000 acre over and over.

I currently have a 13 year old 9" bird that started cutting off and on last fall so now is the time to replace it. I'm not interested in net working just the basics since I might bass fish for a while or crappie fish and the past several years I really like big bluegills and redears which is why I would like DI on the trolling motor. Lauren, two questions... Once I use the amazing info you provided to purchase how do I go about learning how to use the dang thing? I have two boats I use equally. It there a brand portable or do I have to have duplicate wiring on each boat?
@InDepthSonar
@InDepthSonar 2 года назад
Sorry for the late reply, must have missed this comment.... Best place to learn is RU-vid and then practicing on your own. I find going out using the unit, coming up with questions and then searching those terms is usually the best way on RU-vid.
@InDepthSonar
@InDepthSonar 2 года назад
Answer your second question. I would just duplicate the wire and get a power cable mounting bracket and transducer and you're all set. A lot of companies offer second boat kits where it'll supply all those accessories in one package

...all are good - agree, but no one offers a 'buy-back'...so all are just driven by the same sales strategy > consumers and more consumption... bottom line > no real upgrade on the same unit and no actual replacement but to buy a new one every other 2-3 years

Might be hard to find anything on that price range. Lowrance HDS Live units come to mind with the Airmar P319 transducer. The GPSMAP 742 from Garmin also with the same transducer

I don't need networking in the unit. Looking to spend $500 top... I don't mind to get last year model))) Am I asking too much for the price ? What would u suggest?
@InDepthSonar
@InDepthSonar 3 года назад
You can probably get what you want for that price, but they will be entry level units. Check the Lowrance Hook Reveal 7" Tripleshot. A lot of times you can find the Garmin echomap 73sv units on sale that would be in that ball park for price too

I’m gonna go with a Hummingbird Helix-15 Gen4 (CHO) and the Mega360 attached to my Minn Kota Ultrex I-Pilot. I’m never gonna network with it or use DI/SI . I wish there was a unit in the series that gave the choice to let you have only GPS and the ability to use the Mega-360. Feel like I’m paying a higher price for things I will never or want to use.
@InDepthSonar
@InDepthSonar 3 года назад
I am surprised too that they didn't make the Mega 360 compatible with the non Mega units. Especially in the larger screen sizes. I guess that was one of the downsides for them to switch from Ethernet to transducer connection

Don't need networking but would like live mapping capabilities, side imaging/sonar. Usually will be bass fishing. Budget 500-900cad . Pls help. It's so much to take in lol

@lachlanoneil8938
@lachlanoneil8938 3 года назад
Cheapest Garmin with a chart built in, the actual transducer , fish finding ability does not get better unless you upgrade an already expensive units transducer after the fact adding about another $1000.
@lachlanoneil8938

It's all about transducer placement unless you are fishing deeper than 200ft at that point you will want a 1 kw transducer.

Didn't really spend any time on Garmin which has everything but networking with a Minnkota. I have both Hummingbird and New Garmins and the mapping dropping waypoints ect is so much better on a Garmin vs a Hummingbird I just upgraded from 2 93 echomap plus units to a 93 echomap UHD and 126 echomap UHD. I have a Ulltera linked to my Hummingbird and picked up a used 999 in case my 1199 craps out I am completely sold on the Garmin echomap UHD and livescope. Video fishing for old guys!

@InDepthSonar
@InDepthSonar 2 года назад
First thing you need a little knowledge of the area you're going to be checking. I always recommend looking at an area you're familiar with so you know what it should look like. Second Navionics and CMAP both have chart viewers on their website so you can look at the charts before you buy them. Lake Master is the only other one so you can probably go into a retailer to get a demo on that chart. Asking around other anglers. What they're using is often a good idea as well

Great video! I'm trying to decide on a 10" Garmin to use exclusively for livescope, either the 1022 or echomap ultra 102. I've heard that the taller screen on the 102 is a huge advantage but is the extra 1/2 inch worth $500? Are there any other advantages to the 102? I have all humminbirds right now so I dont need any networking capabilities. Thanks!

Get the 102 just because it's touch screen. The 1022 is older technology as well because that platform has been around for a while.
