If your chicks are weak, but perk up when held, it sounds like you need to turn up the heat in your brooder. The hardness on their neck, could be a full crop, which means they are eating ok. This is great except almost 90%of chicks that I have purchased from meyer with the rare assorted DO NOT COME BANDED. I have had most breeds that require bands but trust me they don't come banded i have 25 barnevelders not come banded ordered in a rare assorted.. There are other ways to ID as well.

With our assortments, the chicks included are hatchery choice, and we do not band the chicks in the assortments. Although you may have a chick that arrives with a leg band, which is a bonus! That is the excitement of the assortments, its a surprise in the breeds you will receive! There are a lot of great resources available to help you ID your chicks.
