Enjoyed watching this video. I started out thinking I wasn't going to watch it all, but I watched every bit of it. Very informative and makes me want to go in and start putting some plants together!

I didn't realize that you could plant three succulents in a 3" Snappy Pot. I've had a difficult time planting one succulent a 3" Snappy Pot.

It definitely depends on the size of the succulent. These plugs I'm working with are about an inch and a half, so three fit perfectly with a little room to spare. Most of my succulents are in these 3" planters now and I love the size. But the arrangements will likely outgrow the pot in a year.

My question is: If all these succulents should be grown in gritty stuff, how come all those cuttings are rooted in what looks like rich potting soil?
@Succulentsandsunshine
@Succulentsandsunshine 3 месяца назад
Cuttings typically root better/faster in a more organic soil mix. Also, our homes are a very different environment than a greenhouse where these are grown. Ultimately succulents can grow in almost any soil mix as long as they're watered with the soak and dry method and you're paying attention to what the leaves are "telling" you. A gritty well draining soil tends to work best for most people.

@@Succulentsandsunshine Thanks for your reply. I have one tiny segment of a cactus that I got at a plant swap. It looks like a tiny prickly cucumber . Should I try potting soil to root it?
@Succulentsandsunshine
@Succulentsandsunshine 3 месяца назад
I would! Most cacti cuttings will root pretty easily.

You mentioned unlabeled plants. I am a newbie, so I use google lens on my phone. Simply take a photo with lens and scroll to get id info.

Yes! That's my starting point if I'm not sure what kind I have. I actually shared a video about my process here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ih8e4Gsnx7U.htmlsi=bEi4AX9Dlu-cxhNT

Have you had success planting Crassula with Echeveria? I thought they wouldn’t work well together because they have opposite growing seasons…? The arrangements are really cute!
@Succulentsandsunshine

I've put them together several times. Very rarely do arrangements last forever as they are, but I've found that for indoor growing, their dormancy doesn't really affect things. Even outside, one of my favorite succulent designers combines plants with different growing seasons. As long as you're using the Soak and Dry Method, they typically grow well together. But there's a lot of other factors that impact how long arrangements last together too.

I have a question unrelated to your excellent current video. I’ve been watching you for at least the last year. My big issue is soil. I’ve recently been using Bonsai Jack gritty mix with about 25% Epoma Cactus soil. I just cannot get it right! My soil is well draining BUT it hardens in the bottom 2/3 of container and is sometimes damp. HELP!!! I’ve wasted so much money throwing away substrate. Thanks for any advice. FYI, my succulents are indoors under grow lights and in windows. I live in Marietta Georgia.🤗

I'm surprised you're getting compacting with the Bonsai Jack gritty mix, though I have heard of one other person who had that issue. I'm not sure what the Epoma soil is like, but I wonder if that is exacerbating the problem. How deep are your pots? Succulents don't need super deep roots, so you might be able to fill the lower portion of the pots with something else (empty containers, point cones, etc) so you're not using as much soil. Feel free to email me and we can chat more. support@succulentsandsunshine.com
