The Sony A7iv really nailed the hybrid approach by making both readily accessible through not only the main dial with M, 1, 2, 3 etc , but also a secondary dial under that with photo, video, and slow-mo. Both the primary and "mode" dials are connected in a way that settings stored in 1 on photo mode, are different to settings stored in 1 on video mode and so forth. Really makes switching between the two and knowing what you'll get a breeze.
This video came at the perfect time for me! I have an s5ii and I'm thinking of doing some video this year. Thanks for making it clear and less daunting.
Definitely some great points that you make here and something I haven't really considered. Patience and priority being a key thing I'm gonna have to commit to on my trip in two months!
Great video. Magnetic filters have been my life saver. Before that screwing VNDs on and off was really irritating, so I’d just end up keeping it on even for photography (not ideal). Now going back and forth is a lot easier. Occasionally (especially for walkabout photography) I will now carry a Leica Q3 for photography and a Canon R5C for video, but most of the time (birds for me) it is a single R5 and lots of going back and forth. Loved the way you talked about priorities, because that’s not something I’ve figured out how to do in a disciplined way.
Amazing approach Faizal, thank you for the vid. Regarding hybrid shooting, I do it all with my Fuji X-T4. To this date, I consider it to be the best all around camera ( taking in consideration theprice as well ). Yes, it's not the best in low light, yes it has autofocus issues, yes you need extra time and patience, but those are the things that make it feel like a whole experience and they make you appreciate your own work. Ofc, this is just my subjective opinion. Stay safe and healthy guys, never let the passion for creating fade away completely. Cheers from Transylvania!
the exposures in the video look really good and dark, this video has helped me contemplate the balance, i often deal with this dilemma. I prioritize photography and its always a good rule of thumb to at least take one video. street photography has made me a better filmmaker and now i can use my photography style and transpose it onto my videos.
Don’t know why everyone is so fixated on oh its lumix, not Fuji why? Doesn’t matter what brand, he’s embracing his vision, create with whatever gear you have. Paid marketing or not, he’s creating/sharing his philosophy. Just enjoy and be grateful!
Great stuff man! I’ve had my S5ii for 6 months now and I think I’m finally going to start doing video. I’ve been straight photography for a few years now so it’ll be interesting to see.
For me the struggle is shooting Leica M (no video capability) and having to juggle around a video camera to document my shoots with the Leica. GoPros/DJI Action cameras are good for POV shots on video. I will admit, it is a pain in the a$$ juggling around 2 cameras for each medium and like you knowing what medium to shoot first...I've gone back and forth depending on the subject.. I have just picked up a S5IIx and love it....
Hybrid shot is Fun but challenging at Same Time. I'm doing my research to get a Hybrid Camera between Sony and this S5II Cheaper Price Full Frame. Will Never Buy a Crop APS-C Camera for that.
I enjoyed this video as I am attempting to use more video in my work. Your perspective and approach is helpful as I find the right balance for me when shooting stills and video. You mentioned that you prefer 24 fps. I am curious as to why you selected this frame rate vs 30 fps. I hope you plan to continue exploring hybrid shooting on your channel. Thank you.
@@MarcEstrella @grainghoul @kingsleyadi_ Open gate, other recording resolutions, more cinema focused features, EVF, photo capabilities, better dynamic range, better colour and log profile (debatable but not really)
How do you feel setting up a video shot and walking away from your camera to be in the shot? Have you had any experience encountering people interfering in any way?
I'm having a hard time believing you chose to switch to Lumix from Fuji. What about the Fuji hybrid shooters like the X-H2S if the X-T5 wasn't cutting it?
As a clip shooter I found the 5-10” clip is too short too. You need to have a tail for the beginning and end of the clip. More is better. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Yo! I need some help. I am shooting with a canon R5 camera. The screen brightness is turned all the way up on the R5 but on my GoPro POV view, I can’t see the screen in the footage. Its just black. How do i fix this?
It’s seems you are in Madrid! Cannot believe. I told you in Instagram but I cannot send a message… if you need anything during you are in Madrid, let me know! Hope you have a really good trip!!!
Just a photographer? I’m experimenting with video for clips. I don’t know how to edit the clips. I don’t know very much about audio. Two things I know about video. Jittery video will not be watched. IBIS or sticks are required. The other thing is audio is important too. If the video doesn’t sound good people also won’t watch the video. Paradoxically the quality of the clips you record is a distant third element of producing a video. Great. More things to learn. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I think you need to make your mind up bud. First you say you will ALWAYS prioritise photo, and say there are times when you will prioritise film. 🤷♂️.
