I have my first lesson or whatever for behind the wheel. I am really nervous because I don’t much practice and I get bad anxiety because my mother traumatized me 😭
as a beginner driver something that you should know is that the steering wheel isn't as sensitive as you think it is, it takes a bit of turning to get a noticeable effect. the gas and brake pedals are about what you'd expect tho
I drove for the 3rd time yesterday. After watching this video, I felt so calm practicing again. My goal was to drive around an entire block and drive into traffic. I did it calmly but I did receive a little guidance from my dad
2nd time driving on a real road today with my dad I did everything I drove on a intersection did everything but go on a highway my dad said I did great so yea
I’m 17 and I want to start getting my life together but I have Extreme driving anxiety and I can’t handle when I’m being pressured by my parents when I’m practicing . I’m always scared I’m gonna crash and die when I think about driving 😔
That's normal to feel that way, if you can afford an instructor and get a couple of classes it might help. Best of luck and would love to know your progress. Take care.
@@benavas6610 im taking drivers ed! Im a week away from finishing but Ive been practicing in the Parking lots! The more you practice the more confidence You get!
I’m 23 I got my license 3 months ago still learning driving today was my first road trip for 2 hours. I was so scared and panicking thank God some road driver were careful around me cause I was crossing lanes little bit. Tbh my partner was horrible he was screaming and yelling at me all the way make me more nervous however I reach home safely. Seeing all this comment make me feel I’m not the only one with driving anxiety.
I'm 36 year's old, and I don't even know how to drive. I had someone who was going to show me how to drive. They ended up not doing it. So, it doesn't matter anymore, I'll learn how to drive soon. Congratulations to everyone, who passed their test and finally, gotta their drivers license. 👏
Hey man, I’m a few years older than you and just got my drivers license a few weeks ago! Get it when you’re ready but don’t procrastinate. Public transit sucks where I’m from and it’s almost a necessity to drive to places in my city. For example: My friend lives -15 min drive or -1hr, 45 min walk or -1hr transit ride
@@helenaasmr1418 Aww, thank you. I have been studying off and on so far. That sucks, no one didn't teach you. Congratulations on getting your permit and I wish you nothing the best of luck. I hope you got your driver's license by now.
Lol! I’m 14 and I’ve been driving since I was 11 and I have bad anxiety (ik I’m way too young but I like to learn just in case smthin happens that’s a emergency plus my mom takes me on a dirt road, but one time I drive on a busy road with my dads truck I’m surprised he let me but yeah!)
One VERY IMPORTANT tip: when getting gas, if you want unleaded, read the labels on the gas pump and MAKE SURE you are using the correct nozzle. The unleaded nozzle could be any color: black, red, blue, etc. (in my area the unleaded nozzles are black). Make 100% sure you aren't accidentally grabbing the DIESEL or ETHANOL (E20, E30, E85, etc.) nozzles if your car needs unleaded. (In my area, the diesel nozzles are green, but they could also be several other colors). If you aren't 100% sure, go inside and ask the clerk. This can be a very expensive tow and repair bill for your car if you accidentally grab the wrong nozzle and fill your unleaded tank with diesel. It happens more often than you would think. And the repair won't be covered by the warranty, of course, and may not be covered by your insurance. Another clue that you accidentally grabbed the diesel nozzle is that it won't fit inside the hole on your unleaded gas tank, although it's still possible to hold the nozzle to the hole and fill the tank with diesel. The unleaded nozzle will fit ALL THE WAY inside the hole, deep into your gas tank. If you DO happen to accidentally grab the wrong nozzle and fill the unleaded tank with diesel, don't drive the car. Immediately call a tow truck and be towed from the gas station to a repair shop where they can drain and clean your fuel tank. Driving the car will only cause significantly more expensive damage.
I’ve just started learning at 26 and I’m loving it. Had 3 lessons so far. Wish I’d started earlier, but I never imagined I’d enjoy it. The instructor does yell at me quite often, but I’ve found that chatting with him distracts him from the yelling and he become a bit more chill with his remarks 😂
My dads not a bad teacher I’m just so nervous and idk how to get over it. I don’t know I didn’t get much parking lot practice to feel how it feels to be in a car and right away I’m already driving on the neighborhood. It freaks me out idk
It's normal to feel that way, it's part of the process. Keep driving around the neighborhood to continue increasing your confidence and keep practicing. Best of luck!
This is literally me, I literally just parked and started crying because I didnt have enough time to get used to the car, and my mom had me drive around on the road, and its just so scary
Driving anxiety is such a real thing that may not affect the results of the drive but can definitely mess with the driver mentally. I wish the people you guys are driving with would recognize that smh. Good luck to you.
I have tons of anxiety about driving and had an anxiety attack when I got in the car for the first time (didn’t end up driving lol) so this video helped so much!
Everyone judges me because I'm a slow learner and I also am on the autism spectrum. I wont understand social cues from my mom if she thinks I'm doing something wrong. One time I was learning how to drive but she screamed at me and it made me almost collide into a car and then I forgot to yield for the car coming from my left side to the right. I was going into the same direction. Luckily, my reflexes were really good and I was able to swerve into a lane quickly because no one was there in the lane. It's just that my ears hate screaming and loud noises so if I hear something like that, I tend to freeze and my mind can't focus. This made me not yield and I was having anxiety as well. My ears are so senstive to the screaming its so painful. Also, I always feel like covering my ears when she does that. And then my mom yells even more and I'm so afraid of her. I have trust issues now and everytime she tells me to go practice driving the basics with her, I get panic attacks on the inside and get horrid flashbacks of her screaming at me and calling me insults if I ever make a mistake. It makes me cry but I hold it in and pretend to smile and be happy for her. I don't know what to do anymore. Even my instructor made fun of me and asked whether I'm stupid or not. I just need the support and want to take things at my own pace. I stopped practicing how to drive for a year and now its 2021 I want to go at it again. I haven't gotten my drivers test done but I was supposed to last year. I don't know about directions and I constantly fixate on the road. I changed my mindset this year and am trying to rid of my anxiety and panic attacks. I'll start driving with my dad for now if he has time for me.
Learning how to drive is challenging for some, it was the same for me when I started. Stay focus and keep a positive mindset and I am sure you will get the license this year. If it doesn't work with your dad get a NEW instructor and hopefully it goes better. Best of luck to you and let us know if you have any questions. We will be happy to help you.
Its not healthy to keep in your feelings too 😕 i hope your mom can understand that it never feels good to drive or learn when somebody is yelling at you which could also be slowing the process for you to get used to driving. Take your time, all you need is more experience and a willingness to keep trying to improve.
I had my instructor in a bad manner and then I quit learning, refuse to try to drive for over 12 years, now I'm trying to drive in a new country. It is just past experience. We have to grow up for the dead past. Let it go. You will be better than your mom!
I just turned 38 and i want to learn how to drive and make a career with it. When i was younger and tried to learn the person teaching stressed me out so much i almost caused an accident and feared ever learning again so i gave up on it and stayed away but now im ready to finally get over that hump and get my license
i’m a beginner driver i’m only 16 but my dads teaching me although i have no issue with his teaching (he was a sprint car racer when we was younger) but these videos help me on the little things that he forgets because they just come natural to him
I’m 22 and my mom keeps pressuring me to learn how to drive but I get anxiety on taking turns 😅 but I do want to learn cause I want to be more independent and go out.
19 but I’m alright , I just can’t afford a car I’m currently saving up for one :)) , I’m trying to practice while I’m saving for it , I had terrible anxiety as well and would cry when I would get in the car and it didn’t help when my mom would yell at me , but that was when I was 17-18 , it dosent happen anymore I’m prettt excited now 🥳,bmy sister has helped and she taught her bf :) and he picked up it in 2 weeks and was one of the best drivers I’ve seen better than my older sister 😂,
I just feel like there are so many things to keep track of, road lines, street signs, who has the right of way, how to park, checking your mirrors, making sure your not going to fast or slow, making sure you cancel your signal or use it, dodging obstacles that might be in the street, knowing where you even are, and even having to pay attention to what other drivers are doing. I’m sure there’s something I missed in there and I know it’s not like you’re doing it all at the same time but it’s all still things that happen pretty frequently and so you gotta make sure you get all of it
this comment section makes me feel not alone about my first in car lesson in two hours 😭 glad to see that everyone has experienced what i’m feeling rn and it’s not just me 😅 i’m still nervous though
Thank you for this video! My sister took me out driving earlier and almost got in a crash because I didn’t know how to use my breaks, I’m forever traumatized 😵💫
When I got my license, my mother warned me about driving past parked cars, telling me to be prepared in case a child should unexpetedly dash out from in between them. She also taught me to adjust my side mirrors so that I don't have blind spots, saying that I don't need to see what's directly behind me from the side mirrors. Also that I should always chock the tires when parking on a hill. People put too much trust in parking brakes, which fail more often than we realize.
My driving learning was halted in 2020 due to the pandemic + a health condition I developed at around the same time. I feel like I've forgotten everything I learned back then, so this is very helpful for me :]
I had extreme anxiety first times driving, but this helped: just tell yourself youre only driving to that first stoplight. Then, "i'm only driving to that *next* stoplight." Thinking of a long drive as jst a bunch of these little drives (stoplight to stoplight) helped me a lot. You'll love driving soon, and driving will seem easy for you.
@@vickielewallen3799 I got my permit and have been driving for about a week now it’s been good so far. I got my dream truck and I have driven into town for the first time it was insane but my Anxiety has been a lot lower since I have started.
@@repulbic_steve Good for you! Its good to be on "high alert" and watchful when you drive, but not have anxiety. Sounds like you're doing fine, i love driving, not so much in the deep cities with a lot of stop and go traffic, but out on more side streets and winding country roads. That is such a pleasure.
While not really new to driving, some were very obvious, but the outside perspectives of the car on the steering tips were very helpful, and I think I'll have a better understanding of what the car is really doing now! Parking and turning are both problems I've had, despite having driven for years now (with a learner's permit, of course, I'm preparing to take my test within the month). Very helpful!
1:04 Never, ever grab the wheel from the inside like that! Your hands and wrists will suffer horrible consequences: 1. If someone hits your front and the airbag explodes 2. If your tires are turned and someone hits your side, thus straightening your wheel from the impact All because you have locked your hands inside the wheel like that.
40 year old here. Scared of driving due to being in accidents as a child, not just one either like 5 with my mom. Slowly but surely coming to terms with that and started driving very slowly.
I drove for the first time today. I'm 13 and my dad wanted to start teaching me young, so we went to my highschool's parking lot lol. I think I did good but I'm nervous for driving on the actual road. I had a lot of fun though and I'm excited to learn more 😁
i got my learner’s today and also started driving today and i didn’t do so bad but i did hit the garbage cans on the end of my driveway (oops lol). I also struggle with staying in my lane since im used to sitting in the passenger side of the car
Im 13 and my dad wants to give me a head start in driving. Hes taking me to a parking lot tomarrow. He wants to teach me the basics of driving, and he also wants to teach me how to park. This was pretty helpful. Wish me luck👍😀
This is really informative! Thank you!! I’ve needed this! And I love seeing the outside of the car when making the wheels straight so I can understand it better!
I'm 25 and driving still gives me anxiety . I know the basic at least some and I have drove some but I still suffer because somebody usually have to push me to drive so I don't drive at all and now I'm just ready to try to let the fear go away
I got my license in 2018. Got my car in mid 2019. Been driving back and forth to work only and went through many type of weathers including rainstorm. However, since pandemic i rarely drive and somehow my driving anxiety has increasing again. I worked in a new office and the route is difficult as involve big road. So i got scared if I missed my exit and got loss in the city :( I also bad at parking now as rarely practice. Idk how to get my courage again. I do drive once or twice to groceries store. That's it. Lucky i don't have to go to office everyday. I would take ehailing service and costly to me. I want to practice again. Wish me luck!
I swor to my family that the first car i will drive, will be my car! Now, After 10 years i just bought my first car, and your videos are gold for me! Thank you so much!
I got my learner’s permit a few weeks ago, and this weekend I finally had the chance to go out with my Mom and drive. I thought it was going to be easy lmao- nope. We started out doing loops at out local park, and she made me practice parking a few times (I have an issue with pulling up all the way). It was a little scary but no one was around, so that eased my anxiety a little bit. Then she asked if I actually wanted to go out on the road (it really wasn’t an option since she would have yelled at me if I said no). It was scary. We did, however put the hazards on, which helped everyone else on the road steer clear of what I was doing. It was a back road luckily, so it wasn’t anything fancy. We did see a biker that I had to pass (which was pretty intense) and there was also a cop car stationed on the side of the road, which (thankfully) didn’t pull me over. I’m really struggling with sharp turns, and there were several times where my mom grabbed the wheel and yelled at me, afraid I was going to hit someone. I guess you could say I don’t know what to do. I’m scared, and I’ve put off driving about just as long as I can, and now I feel like, since I’m older, my parents expect me to be good at it right away.
Totally relate to you, it happened to me with my day lol. All I can say is take one day at a time and continue practicing as much as you can. Best of luck to you.
Hope it gets better! I'm getting my permit in a few days and I have to start driving in town more often. I'm scared asf about that for many reasons, but we got this.
Im a beginner as well and thankfully I dont feel as anxious around my mom when driving, Im sorry she made you feel that way. Driving is an important skill to be able to do well, so everyone should learn it at a comfortable pace to them. Good luck to you
Lol I got pulled over by a cop when I was practicing in an empty parking lot my first time but when she realized my dad was giving me driving lessons she thought it was funny and showed us another parking lot that’d be better.
Just my tips: if you can afford, hire/pay someone who are experienced with driving (don't have to be a driving instructor, could just be your brothers/sisters or cousins). If you dad/mom teach you how to drive, you're gonna have a hard time because they always yell/scream at you. I was lucky enough to have my cousins, who is 5 years older than me, helped me with driving for my first month
i just passed my drivers test today!! i was super nervous the whole time (my leg was shaking so bad that we had to sit in the car for a sec for me to regain my composure lmao), but my examiner was so nice! he was really patient with me and said i only missed marks on parking-he said my turns were more “round” than they should be. i just wanted to say watching all these vids really helped me, and i felt a lot more confident going into the test. my only piece of advice is to work on being calm, because it’ll make it 100x easier. good luck everyone!!
I am 31 now learnt how to drive first time at about 27/28years but since no car, forgot totally how to effectively drive... Now I'd try my best to go learn again and this time get myself a car
Good video!. Still waiting for the one where you more carefully explain turning especially certain aspects of it. Those aspects being positioning for both tight turns and non-tight turns and when to turn once you have established the correct position.
Some people dont signal in turning lane so they get me confused then also 1 dude was driving in my lane like what, then he turned over into his lane when i was approaching
I have my first driving lesson in 30 minutes. I’ve been having really bad anxiety about it since I’ve only driven a car twice before. We were required to take sort of school type classes before we started our driving lessons, but I’m still quite nervous because I barely know my driving instructor
My gf’s daughter will turn 15 at the end of this year and I’m planning to start her with driving lessons, as I know her mom will stress her out due to her nerves. So thanks for the tips, I’ll be using these for my lessons 😬
I'm starting my first driving lesson this week. And have no prior experience driving. So these small tips are helping immensely. Hopefully I my anxiety doesn't get in the way. 🙃
for a moment i got paranoid and my parents were confusing the heck outta me like nooo stop witch i slammed the breaks real hard and my cat went flying forward and 2 i make really hard turns bt thx i subbed this helps
hey i’m about to do my first in-car instructor session and i’m a little nervous because i’m still getting the basics down. and i’m not sure if they’re gonna tell me what to do or just expect me to know the basics haha
Got my learner's permit a few months ago and I drove once and it was so scary, I'm driving again this weekend and this time I'm gonna focus super good and practice.
I got jealous cause my friend (who's also 14) gets to drive with his mom all the time. So I'm gonna learn and show my parents that they can totally trust me.
Hello! I could really use some advice....so I just got my license (at 27, don't laugh lol) and I'm doing fairly well. I do however make little mistakes every now and then, (like hitting a curb while turning), and when I do make mistakes, I feel like I'm the worst driver ever. How can I stop being so critical of myself when I make a mistake and drive with more confidence?
I passed drivers test on my first try and drove for the first time a few days ago! It was super nerve racking and my mom tried to start me off on a T turn thing??? Anyways, I think this is first time I've ever been intimated by something, the car was bigger then I expected and the gas petal is a lot more sensitive then you would think So videos like these make me feel less anxious
I have 1 year before I start driving and I watched 3 other videos including this on how to drive and I know the basics now it will be easy at first when learning to drive
for clarification i almost run over that guy cause he saw the cars coming and he still decided to cross the street💀 i’m the best driver now tho so it’s all good
I'm almost 17 and have a driving observation next week, I tried to drive once to get some practice and almost died 2 times, so thanks for this video I'm trying to get better 😅
I’m 19 and I’ve wanted to learn since I was in middle school! I always wanted that independence because like many I feel guilty needing my parents to drive me places since I’m the youngest. I don’t want to bother my parents when I need to go to college classes anymore. The other day my dad started teaching me and thankfully he’s very chill
you can check that your wheels straight without moving car into a random direction turn the wheel all the way to the right (or left) then turn it 2.5 times in the opposite way
I’m 21 without a license. My dad got his suspended in 2015, and never bothered to get it back because he’s scared of driving. My parents are both useless and refuse to just merely take me for practice around residential streets. I have no friends that would be willing to help. I’ve been reading the handbook. Aren’t driving lessons like $600?
Me: I am scared (crying while driving in first day of lesson) My Driving teacher: Then don't be scared!!! Me: We're gonna die My Driving teacher: No, we aren't!!! Me: I had a past trauma of accident. My Driving teacher: Forget about it!!! Me: *arrived back home* My Driving teacher: (Buddha's tone) That will be $100 for 2 hours, my dear. Goodbye.
I got my permit a while ago and waited till now to learn. First lesson tomorrow. Expires on Sunday so hoping to learn and get my licenses within a week 😅😭 Wish me luck! Cause im VERY nervous/scared.
