Let's talk about lace! I have many tutorials on upcycled lace projects like: purses, dresses, scarves, bloomers, tops and more. In this video I discuss some tips on sourcing and caring for cutter lace (vintage and newer). I look forward to spring for many reasons, but one reason is it's time to create those lovely spring and summer lace looks that I've been dreaming of all winter!!

I would like to add one more tip. I have been cleaning old linens for many years. Sometimes you'll see a very dark orange stain. If it does not react to everything you try, it could be rust. Pour a rust cleaner on it (i.e. Whink) and you will be amazed how it will come out. Wash fabric as you normally would. Rust cleaners are also for fabrics.

Beautiful. I'd have a hard time snipping those lovely vintage crochet pieces apart. Maybe because I have crocheted and I know how long it takes. But you girl are fearless. Rock on!

Great video! I've done interesting things with the heavier crocheted pieces by weaving colorful yarn through the holes, basically turning the doily into a fabric. Depending on the yarn, there is sometimes enough fugitive dye to color the doily when I wash it as well (provided you let it soak a bit). Anyway, glad I found your channel. You are very good at explaining what you do!

Thanks for sharing your great tips! I can add that you can boil pure cotton or linen lace as well. It’s actually very gentle on old lace as you don’t ”work” it, you just use a little detergent and let it simmer for a short while on your cooker. Avoid detergent with bleach effect if your lace is ecru and you want to keep it that way. This is an old ”grandma tips” that my old aunti taught me. 🥰 Another tip for sourcing is to let all your friends and family know that your want any old textiles! I’ve been so lucky like that, especially with old crochet lace and doileys, people don’t use them anymore and maybe it’s an old grandma that’s made them. They love that they get used in some way! You have an awsome channel, so greatful for all the tips and tutorial! ❤️❤️❤️

Our Dear Ms. Myers: For thrift store smell: I had a multi colored, six piece haul the other day. I washed them in warm and added 2 cups of white vinegar. Five out of six pieces came out with no smell at all. I will continue trying this.

Such perfect timing for sharing these tips. I just bought 4 cutter lace tablecloths off Ebay. I was wondering how to clean them as 3 of them do have satins, yet no tears. I appreciate the help. I would love it as I am sure other would love to know how you handle shipping. Your work is so fantastic. You do such an incredible job with you tutorials. I have already made a couple of purses using your tutorials. Thank so much.

I also have had good luck in antique malls. Often dealer who have lots of pretty pieces in their booth will also sell bags of not so great ones. My daughter finds me a lot in Goodwill bin stores.

Question: my daughter is trying to find a way to un-yellow a headdress that was my grandmother’s. It is framed with metal and has lace and pearls. I am frightened to use Oxiclean as the metal may stain the lace. Any suggestions?

Traci, have you ever tried to remove starch from a piece? After washing a large doily I thrifted I could not get the starch out…
@tmyershandmade978
@tmyershandmade978 Год назад
My doilies with starch have always washed right out in the machine. That's a great question to pose to all the wise viewers here. One lady suggested boiling lace to remove stains, I wonder if that would work for starch?🤗🤗🤗

Question! May I ask a question? I’m working on some denim up-cycles to sell. I know sometimes you make belts from braided yarn, and they look like you’ve braided them a little loose. I’ve also seen you add braided yarn to your purses. My concern is does the yarn belts hold up very well?
@tmyershandmade978
@tmyershandmade978 Год назад
Hi there, I imagine they hold up just fine. I mainly did that because I sold a lot of over sized jeans and I needed a way to hold them up on my mannequin. I was afraid if I used a real belt (even if I said, belt not included) my buyers might expect the belt with the jeans. This way, with the braided belt, (which I included) there was no confusion. 🥰🥰🥰

Plus, they were a one size fits all.😍
