couple of things... 1- Southwest still allows people to check 2 bags for free up to 50 lbs. So I check a ball bag, one suitcase... and I take a backpack on the plane w/ essentials. 2- I go to Home Depot and get the orange bubble wrap with the large bubbles and wrap the balls. It helps if the baggage handlers are rough with the cargo.

Heading to reno to bowl on the 17th & 18th of may!
@jessnicholascenterfireecon8382
We're driving to Nationals this year, about 2,000+ miles so it's not insignificant. Shipping/flight restrictions weren't the only consideration for us (sightseeing, having a vehicle while we were out there, etc.), but it was one of them. What I've heard of some teams doing is having 4-5 guys come together, get a pallet, wrap everyone's gear on the pallet, and then having it freight shipped. I did a lot of flying pre-9/11 and a lot post-9/11, and people who are too young to remember what flight was like just don't understand what we gave up post-9/11. It's not just convenience, it's also dignity. A goodly number of TSA people are more than rude, they seem to revel in treating people poorly or roughly, because they know they can. They seem to get off on it. Whenever I can justify driving now, I'll do it. Same for family trips.

I've never flown anywhere. Within the USA, I will drive just because of the TSA hassle. There are only a very few places I'd consider flying to, Ireland and Australia.

I bought a four ball roller and spent 60 bucks to check bag as 2 bags and bowling ball express was 160 so I saved money on that for Reno but I say it was successful as my first time out bowled 1503 all events plus 500 bowlers journal.

When I have flown southwest, they let you have two check bags under 50lbs. I have split my 4 ball roller for my two bags. Then I used a carry on for clothes, thumbs, and bowling shoes. I figure if the balls got lost or something, at least I would have my thumb and shoes haha.

It's $45.00 for another check bag for delta in 2024. They took my ball cleaner.

Would you also suggest direct flights, not just for ease of travel but also lessens ability for bags to get lost?

Shipped 6 balls to Reno with bowling ball express, was not cheap but could not take the chance, with airlines especially having a layover, or damage my equipment, or destroy my bags, $325

what is the weight for six balls with two carriers on avg? might consider doing this as well.

Where did you ship them from? That seems really high compared to the numbers I saw recently looking at that website
@bnglcat
@bnglcat Год назад
I shipped 3 from Louisiana and it was $110 there, $115 back. That was up from the $93 I was quoted about 5 weeks earlier when I did a test run to see the cost. Definitely not cheap but it's a balancing act for me for the convenience of not having to drag them into/out of the airports. Nice to just pick them up at the venue and put them straight into a locker.

Question: if ball cleaner can only be 3 ozs., which is not the amount cleaner is sold in, will usbc make a stink that your ball cleaner is not in a container showing that it's officially approved ball cleaner?
@1SpartanD4L
@1SpartanD4L Год назад
That's not an issue as you can not clean a ball during competition. Pre- and Post- competition, you can do whatever you need/want.
@joehoenig7596
@joehoenig7596 Год назад
@@1SpartanD4L Thank you. Perhaps I should have been clearer: TSA regs don't allow carryon liquids greater than 3ozs., while USBC regs don't allow ball cleaner--when it's permitted to be used--in any bottle other than the official bottle it came on, with the "USBC approved..." label on it. I've confirmed with the USBC Rules Committee and the USBC Nats Tournament director that this is the case. The only air travel options I can come up with are: 1. Don't being any ball ball cleaner and buy some in Reno 2. Take an "official" bottle of ball clesner, securely wrapped to avoid leakage, in your checked luggage 3. If you'd rather bring ball cleaner in your carryon, pour 3ozs. into a travel-sized bottle and being the empty official bottle in your checked luggage. My question was how to travel with ball cleaner, given that USBC regs and TSA regs are in opposition to one another.
@1SpartanD4L
@1SpartanD4L Год назад
@@joehoenig7596 ok, so anticipating the smudge that a USBC tourney director will allow you to clean. I'd take JR's advice there and just by a bottle out there and not worry about traveling with liquids. Or, buy some of those ball wipes. Pretty sure those are less than 3 ounces. ALSO, the 3 ounces is only for carryon so you could put them in checked luggage if you really need that original bottle.
