Ashley: "the first step to a productive day working from home is to get a good night's sleep" me, watching this video at 1:21am: I don't think I have the facilities for that, big man
“Some people save their nice outfits for a good day...but today is a good day” I love that. Can’t tell you how many amazing outfit pieces I’ve never worn because I loved them too much that I was afraid of ruining them. What a loss
Me when I was a kid , and I was never lost or anything cause I was only in my red and white dress that everybody knows me for 😂 like anyone would know who I was from the back from the sides from over 100000000000000 km
Ok i don’t think i’ve ever commented on a video before but i just feel the need to express my gratitude for this video... literally the shots that you took and the detail you put into it inspired me to actually do more work. Your new space is so cute and i can see a genuine shift in you... go ashley!!! Ur the best and i cannot get over the sheer quality of this video
That's called "Quarantine Troubles Vol.879" You should read it it has over 900 pages! Yes, it only took a month of quarantine to write that many volumes...
joonoski me too ! she’s my favorite youtuber because she’s so inspiring and raw and i get so motivated whenever i watch her. she makes me want to be a better person :)
anyone else self isolating and has loads of free time but hasn’t done any work and has never been more unproductive in their life and is very grateful for this video rn??
I mean, you guys can do the stuff you've always wanted to do but have never had the time to do otherwise. Like experimenting with makeup, hair, clothes, etc. Learn a skill you've always wanted to learn. Hone the skills that you do have and/or are proud of. Start a new personal project. Contact the people you care about, hang out online for a while. There are lots of options to keep you occupied outside of consuming content online
yes !!!!! and then i feel shitty for not doing anything but continue to not doing anything...it feels like i have no control over what i do (even though that is definitely not the case)
yeah, we have been doing online schooling and as of today, I’ve only done the work for Monday...I just feel like crap cause now I don’t wanna do anything
i feel like i already know these tips but having someone tell me has honestly really helped, especially when it's in a pleasing and understanding and calming format (vs me yelling at myself for knowing how to fix procrastination but procrastinating on fixing the procrastination). thank you ashley! please stay safe and healthy everyone!
“If an outfit makes you feel good there’s never a limit on the number of times you can wear it” AGREED. I find myself limiting the number of times I wear something bc people have already seen it or it’s been on Instagram when in reality I love how that dress fits on me. Thanks for reminding ❤️❤️
bomb dot Dom but on her bestmess channel she uploaded a vid of her repeating a 5 second line over and over again, so I wonder how long it took to record a line that is like 10x as long
I have never ever heard of "Parkinson's Law" until today, but it makes the most sense out of anything I have ever heard in my entire life. I often procrastinate and then do like ten-page papers and stuff in like 4 hours, and, even though I'm suffering inside, the fact that I got so much work done in so little time makes me so proud of myself, so I procrastinate more to get that same feeling, and it's a terrible never-ending cycle. But now it makes so much sense to me; I could get the same amount of work done in the same amount of time, and spend more time on the things that I'm passionate about, while not being stressed and procrastinating, so yeah, that's freaking awesome.
I'm the same. I've always wanted to work creative writing into my routine but haven't because I feel like by doing that I'll be wasting study time, when in reality I spend the amount of time procrastinating throughout the day that I could've got some solid writing done.
@@emilym5870 Same! I always refrain from doing things I want to do because "I won't get enough time to do schoolwork", but in reality, I don't need that much time in the first place. If I give myself too much time, I'll just end up wasting it.
I couldn't have said it better myself. That's exactly how I feel. I make it such a toxic thing wherein I blame myself for wasting time. I could spend that time doing something I love like reading or watching good shows or films or documentaries or baking. And I have done it for so long that now I associate those things I love with something I should be guilty about because I am wasting time and not studying. Not everyone is built the same way. Some people work better over a stretched out period of time and others are more productive in a condensed amount of time. That way I could do things I love and feel creatively satiated I guess(that sounds weird) and still get my uni work done. We have to make use of this freedom now because when we're older with tough jobs or families we may not have this luxury.
Ugh I know, I was thinking that too. I know reality is reality, but I actually wish I hadn't seen that. It was really disturbing in a weird way. Honestly, truly, it WAS disturbing. And then hearing that nightmare rant was too due to having seen that past video...
i love how she acknowledges her position and that not everyone can afford, or has, the same things as her so she makes other ideas for them ! a true queen
Yes, like she talked of designing thumbnails instead of editing, but how many of us are RU-vidrs? So she suggested something more relatable to us. Love that!
I'd never had to study from home until now and I literally don't know what I'm doing. I can't focus on anything I have to read, classes online are a mess and I just waste so.much.time. so I'm really grateful for this video, and hopefully my brain will actually follow all the tips
A good idea is to set up a “go to bed” alarm, so your sleep cycle is normal. Making to do lists and writing down what you need to accomplish can be a good idea for it to seem less overwhelming. Typically to keep focus you study 25 min and relax 5 min. You do this 4 times, and have a 1 hour break. Repeat. +Don’t study in your bed but a designated study space
im leaving a mom comment here: dont make your bed until it airs out or else sweat and humidity gets stuck under your covers and bacteria starts to build up. but if youre that person that wears shoes on your bed, do whatever you like.
is it strange that i miss Ashley's old apartment without ever having lived there?😔 the new one is looking real cute tho i love the brick aesthetic😍😍 love you queen and thank you for the video, seeing you is always a great pick-me-up🥺🥰💞
I love how she basically carried over and compacted the same aesthetic into a smaller space in a different city. I would really love another apartment makeover video from her soon (even though I know its been barely 3 months since her last one) :D
@@szeszelui9684 that's what makes Ashley so amazing! she keeps her style no matter where she goes ^-^ and I'm sure she's working on the makeover video for her new apt already haha, but we probably won't get it for another 7 months or so >< much love!💕
Over a year has passed since this vlog was published, and this is, I believe the third time I’ve watched it. I just want to comment on how much I appreciate Ashley, she is always such an inspiration and after watching this I always feel motivated to “get that sh*^t done”
@@mirandaranda lol true although I'll probably never apply this specific tip to my lifestyle as I have old comfy clothes specifically for wearing at home and my going-out clothes
I think its because when you normally have to go outside ( to college/uni/ office or other workspace with people) you put effort into looking good or at least put together. Then in downtime when you relax and watch tv or movies you put on comfy clothes like fluffy pjs or loose sweats. So if when working from home if you put on your comfy clothes the brain goes "ah its time to relax and do fun things but nothing productive" because thats what you usually do in comfy clothes. Whereas if you put together a real outfit it makes your brain go " ah we are preparing to do productive things". Like for me, i basically never wear shoes in the house during down time. So im thinking ill try wearing proper clothes and putting on some sandles or something when im working or doing chores.
hot tip for a morning routine: lemon water stretch 10 min meditation/breathing exercise write 5 things you're grateful for (30 mins or less this takes) exercise if possible/when can be bothered then check phone emails etc. trust me, do this for 7 days, then 21, then 30.. watch it change how you think and feel!
Me, an italian, when the self-quarantine started: oh well, I'm gonna do lots of stuff like drawing and painting! Or maybe work on my cosplay for the next con! Teachers who give triple the amount of homework we usually have to do: *I'm gonna ruin this girl's whole career*
People: This is awful! We are all locked in our house because of corona, how do you do it so easy Ashley? Doesnt the corona pandemic scare you? Ashley who was just locked in her house anyways: *The what?*
everyone, literally everyone: separate your woking and living spaces!! me, sitting on my bed at 5pm, opening an empty document for an assignment that I haven't started but need to turn in today: nah
"If an outfit makes you feel good, there's never a limit on the number of times you can wear it" I love this sm! Growing up my mom would always scold me for wearing a new article of clothing for a regular day so I've always felt guilty about wearing something nice just for myself, this is a daily affirmation I'm gonna tell myself during this social isolation thing
Hi Ashley✨, I’m usually part of the « silent majority » and never comment, but this intro was so good I couldn’t help myself! I’ve been following your channel for a long time now and it it so amazing to see how you’ve changed, how you got better, how you found yourself... I just wanted to thank you. You’re part of the « loud minority » (if I might say) of content creator on RU-vid that really bring us joy and do an amazing job. Thank you for the laughs, the beautiful shots, your amazing personality, the videos at the right time, the discussions and the emotions you bring us (never knew I could be emotional to leave an apartment I’ve never lived in haha). I wish you all the luck for your life journey❣️ Anyways, I hope you and everyone who reads this have an amazing day and a productive quaratine Love from France Please like so that she can see... ; )
I have crippling and chronic RLS, and because of self isolation and other shit, the place where I get my meds is closed so I’m left not being able to sleep because of it :/
Ever since schools became online, I have discovered how much I can get done with productive procrastination. If I don't want to do Math homework, I will maybe do some chores, or sometimes even do other easier homework and it's been working great for me.
That was the thing that saved me in the begging when i was transitioning from going to university every single day to staying at home and being free. To me too much freedom has always worked against me and no longer having a routine made me waste so much time. So at the start if i just didn't feel like studying or i knew that i wouldn't be actually paying attention I started doing chores around the house and when I felt like i could actually be productive i just went and did what needed to be done.
I guess am such a coward. I feel afraid of "studying" idk i just keep procrastinating and doing anything absolutely anything like watching useless interviews online, just not to start writing that essay or reading the assignment.. 😩
I've been living at my boyfriend's house because I house is overseas. One tip I found pretty useful when I dont have a desk is saving Safari for work and chrome for youtube. Its a minor association between the browser and work but it helps
This helped BIG time. Never heard of the "law" before but it makes perfect sense and I have definitely wasted time because I gave myself so much of it...weird how the mind works sometimes. I have VERY stressed- I am waitress in NYC- and although this is what I always wanted, it's terrible ! I always wanted the time to work on myself, build my design skills to create a portfolio I'm proud of but the hours of working and commuting for 1+ hrs each way drains my energy for anything else....it's so hard to relax with lack of money hanging over my head. I have no clue how I'm going to pay rent this month. It sucks but a video like this helps me get by. Thank you, very informative. 🙏🏼🌼🐎
My heart goes out to you. Every time I think about all the people who are out of work right now I hope they have a way to pay rent... But I encourage you to use this extra time to do what you've always wanted to. All the worrying in the world will not make money, unfortunately. But building your portfolio could lead to you getting a less stressful job that you can enjoy later on. You could even divide your time so that you work on solving the rent problem somehow for a period of time, and then the rest of the time you don't think about it. This is a hard time for everyone and I hope you find a way to make it through.
If you aren’t working right now, apply for unemployment! I’m pretty sure New York is giving benefits very soon after you apply. It won’t be all of what you were making, but it’ll help. You don’t have to have completely lost your job to apply either. If you’ve essentially been laid off you can apply!
@@jasminelambert3753 been trying but can't get through, phone line is down too, due to "technical difficulties" there are just too many of us trying to apply... some coworkers are easily distracted by the free alcohol our employers are offering to see them dodging real concerns. They passed extra sick leave in NY and yet no word from management.
@@karisap Thank you so much for your kind words, It means a lot. I just can't believe the perfect storm I'm in now. Part of what makes this more difficult is the run around from my managers , the constant back and forth from coworkers getting mixed info... it also did not help when I friend of mine felt the need to call me and tell me how much money he's made and sold out for 8 months --He sells toilet paper... currently ignoring his calls 😒
strawberries5151 that sucks I’m so sorry. Hopefully they can figure out a way to expand their phone capacity or have an online application or something. I truly wish you the best of luck
Walmart has a cheap brand of dotted, journals called “ Exceed” that can be used as a bullet journals. Comes with pages numbers and t.o.c. The paper is solid quality too
Ashley: try not to watch youtube or tiktok in your workspace Me: *am currently watching her video on how to be productive whilst putting off an essay in my only workspace area*
That's it, any small lingering doubt that you're a F------ genius is gone... You are simply brilliant! That opening, such wit! There is just so much talent surging through you and what's equally impressive, your innate ability to keep it all so real/authentic, pure & grounded! Amaz!!! I’ve actually implemented your to-do list method, doing-other-tasks-as-“breaks”-method, and your hangout-at-the-end-of-the-day method and it’s REALLY helped me stay on task and helps me with just overall stresses and workload while I’m doing college online cause of the big Rona.

Some tips from a kid who’s on her second year of online schooling: Firstly, use work hours! This helps, me at least, to do work and not decide that the impending animal crossing is more worth my time. Work for a typical work or school schedule and adjust free time around that. For example for me it’s from 9am until 3pm with a one hour lunch break whenever I feel like it. Within work hours I’m not allowed to play games, or watch copious amounts of RU-vid, that all has to wait until after 3pm or lunch time. This works especially well if you have friends who are/were in traditional schooling or workplaces as to not text them during this time. Obviously it doesn’t work for everyone but I find this helps Instill discipline as from 3pm onwards you can still do work but this time whilst being on call with friends or watching RU-vid videos at the same time. Secondly, write out what you need to do or what is due on a Monday morning. I too use a bullet journal which I draw up sometime over the weekend. On Monday I spend majority of my time looking into each of my subjects and writing what I need to do and what is due that week. It really helps you grasp your deadlines a lot better (bonus if you leave a designated space for things due next week for you to work on and keep in mind) and then after I’ve done that I will write up that particular’s day to do list. This also helps seperate out weekend from weekdays. If you can afford to, try to honour the weekend as a time to relax because if you work constantly seven days a week you will go a little crazy and incredibly stressed. I can not stress and echo Ashley enough make to do lists!! I’m horrific at working with self rewards (mostly because I will sit down and decide thats worth a cookie just because I feel like a cookie) so allow yourself the opportunity to cross something off a list, I even use a box to add check marks aswell. (Sometimes on a super bad day I’ll give myself a tick for getting out of bed, small steps are your friend!) If you do find checklists daunting there is psychological trick (elegedly) that you should only make your checklists seven points long because that’s more obtainable in a day than ten. (Don’t quote me on that lol but it helps me when I feel super frustrated about not doing anything!) Don’t be afraid to stop if everything is just not working out. A big thing I had to learn last year when I first started online schooling is that you will have days where there is something you need to do and it just will not happen, like a project that is due tomorrow or a worksheet you really want to get done today but for some reason your brain just,,, doesn’t work. Take a break! I like to honour my work hours rule so instead of watching RU-vid I’ll try to be a bit productive, namely I cook or bake for myself. This can be really helpful at just getting you out of a slump or clearing your mind enough to not feel as frustrated. (My personal go to is brownies) The sun is your friend! In the current climate you can’t really go outside, but please sit in a patch of sunlight for a while it does wonders for your mental health! I cannot stress this enough it’s something that is incredibly under appreciated when your not working from home!!! Working or studying from home requires a lot of forgiveness and discipline (two things I lack for myself) so really stick to your guns and try to let the impending fear of a deadline motivate you if nothing else works lol.
@@degeneratesquid5873 ikr! This is also something I read up on that helped me start working from home www.monster.com/career-advice/article/the-benefits-of-working-from-home
this was super helpful thank you SO much!! all my classes got moved online until august (!!) and as a junior in college these high intensity classes mean i have to devote a lot of time to them and i know my dumb brain will think “online? just do it later!” when i don’t have to actually attend lectures. so thank you!
@@adelaiderose2422 ugh that sucks gl bab!! :((( best advice is to actually pay attention during your online classes bc if you don't it'll be so much harder to catch up tbh... on the plus side, it gives you a lot of time to relax
@@adelaiderose2422 make sure you actually do the work and try to understand what you're doing. i advise you to answer your work first then check google or your textbook to see if your answer was right. helps you to not only get good grades, but to also understand what you're doing wrong and to prevent it from happening again. and oh. study. especially if you have big exams coming up.

some tips for someone who reads this: i facetime with my friendgroup every morning at 8 am so we all motivate each other to get up and we workout together at 9 am so we all can go our separate ways at 9.30. it is also nice to plan a break instead of eating while doing your work, so you can give yourself like a 45 minute break. if you get distracted by your phone easily, i would recommend the app eggzy (free for IOS i dont know about android). this app wont let you turn your phone and when the time is over you have hatched an egg with s cute animal in it (trust me, it works lol) with my friendgroup i planned a group activity at the end of every day, like watching a movie together. kEep your weekend!! its important to not work everyday but have 2 days just doing things that arent school or work for 7 hours. i am going to paint with my friends on saturday and i am so excited :) xoxoxoxoxoxo
The fact that I am watching this as I am procrastinating doing my homework while watching a video about how not to do this is just irony laughing at me
About dealing with distractions I would really recommend two apps: "Stay Focused" is an app that allows you to limit the time you spend on any app and even schedule it, like I can only access Reddit during dinner time for 30 min - that sort of thing. It's really useful to reduce the time you waste on social media. "Forest" app is amazing if you need uninterrupted work/study time. It will block your phone for x amount of minutes by planting a tree. If you do anything on it then it kills the tree. It also has a browser extension and it's a neat way of gamifying your work. Also if you plant enough trees the app company will plant a real tree for you somewhere in the world. Pretty cool. Both really helped me improved my concentration and productivity. As for to-do list, "Todoist" is an amazing app, even the free version is really well organised, full of features and easy to use. Without it I would be really lost, especially now that I'm finishing my Masters remotely. Edit: some grammar
Another good browser extension is Cold Turkey Blocker. It's really helped me block out distracting websites. There's a free version, but the upgraded one isn't that expensive and even more helpful because you can schedule short breaks to enjoy time-wasting sites.
I enjoy using "Study Bunny" which is similar to "Forest" but instead of growing things you get coins slowly and get to make this little pet bunny happy! Also, "Tody" is good for cleaning if that's the kind of work you're doing! It gives countdowns for all the things you still need to clean ^^ I use "Tasks" too bc it has a widget for Todos and you can separate them by category Those are a few of my favorites of the ones I've tried!
this self quarantine has really affected my mental health and Ive been struggling a lot for the past couple of days but your videos always make me laugh and i love your dad jokes lol thank you so much for just being you, you make the world so much brighter!

"whether you're into makeup or not, i think it's important to carve out some time to not listen to anything, not even music or podcast. just sit in silence and sift through your own thoughts." *i badly needed to hear this thank you ashley.* it has been a struggle of mine since i was a kid to start my day. i would rather do something that will make myself preoccupied than do mundane tasks to slow down and process what's going on my mind and with my life.
haha I'm the opposite. I do that way too many times to the point where I started overthinking everything, including my self worth and the purpose of life. Nearly got diagnosed with anxiety so doctor advised me to start doing stuff and listening to music. That's when I realized I haven't listened to music for weeks.
Ashley: set up your desk so it's facing away from household mess and keep your desk clean! Me: desk is also my vanity and faces a mirror that reflects all my bedroom mess back at me
jenjen1132 maybe put a curtain over the mirror while you work? That can be your way of turning it into your “work space” and separating it from the bedroom
