The first tip is that you really do need to love yourself, yes this does seem a bit weird but trust us because in a nutshell if you can’t look after yourself how are you going to look after others? Being a rescue diver is about being calm and aware of your surroundings. Very much like a standard first aid course, the first step you need to think about is yourself.
If you ever need to get into the water to rescue someone you will need to understand your own limitations, sadly your life isn’t a Hollywood movie if you jump in the water without assessing first you could land yourself in hot water and you’ll be the one that needs to be saved. So think about yourself first because at the end of the day the most important person you need to focus on keeping alive is you.

I found the Rescue Diver course to be physically demanding but also a great course with some new skills to learn.im now doing my Dive Master course.

Rescue diver was my favorite course. Really challenging and a lot of new things to learn.

Rescue Diver - one of the best courses I've ever done!! I'd like to add communication. Good calm communication is SOOOO important!! I've actually rescued one diver that was fortunately at the surface but fatigued and drifting away displaying a high level of anxiety. When I got to her talking to her made her feel comfortable enough to listen better. She was almost able to save herself had she have not been fatigued. Think of your physical fitness level before you get into this course, it can be physically demanding.

I am not a rescue diver (yet, just got my open water just before COVID came along), However, I am a EMR on land. One thing that I have experienced personally is that it helps to learn the first aid (preferably even advanced first aid which includes ABCDE protocol) and apply that by doing first aid at events, at the company you work or through other (charity)work. This will teach you to think on your feet in a medical crisis situation, how to keep your head in the right place and how to vent your emotions afterwards. Learn this on (dry) land before hitting the great plunge will allow for more easy communication, and honing the skills you want to use when under water and/or on a boat in the middle of the sea/ocean.

I have a question. Why don't all divers dive on doubles but have one tank running to your primary and the other running to the secondary? Would that not be better for a situation where if someone uses all of their air then you wouldn't have to worry about them using yours because you have a whole full tank to donate even if it were a pony.
