Become a licensed professional involves several steps. First, do you want to the responsibility? How do you even find out what that additional responsibility is? Developing communications skills is as important as the technical ones. Find out about the requirements for licensure in your state, and what the requirements are to take the NCEES exams and the exams of your state licensing board. This involves a lot of reading and detailed parsing of the requirements. To properly apply, not only do you need a detailed resume, you need a weekly or monthly summary of what you did, not what your employer did.
