Hello!! I want to reiterate that I do not believe you should memorise essays. However, I’ve seen students be successful when it comes to ‘templates’, so these are the things I’ve learnt from them :)
Hmm tbh I think this is bad advice… memorisation of topic sentences seems dicey. Topic sentences are not general statements based on themes; they should be directly related to each topic. It minimises their impact as if they are memorised, they will not be the strong assertions responding to the topic that they ought to be.
Lex O hey! Maybe I wasn’t clear. I don’t think topic sentences should be memorized either, but a lot of students feel comfortable having ‘template’ assertions. For example, ‘X author endorses/condemns Y idea’. I completely agree with you that students are better off actually responding to the essay topic.
Lisa's Study Guides fair enough! Apologies if I was misinterpreting what you were saying. Write enough essays on a text, and of course there’ll be some similar topic sentences!
@@vcestudyguidesonline i agree as well!! also personally I've found (or rather my teacher taught me XD) that memorising chunks of examples is really beneficial. For example if there's a particular scene or a really good metaphor, having a preset way of explaining it and briefly analysing i find, is really helpful. that way you can adapt that chunk of writing into many different paragraph ideas and essays. you really just need to come up with a good topic sentence and then connect the example to it. maybe its not for everyone but for me I've found it so useful XD
Hi Lisa, so i'm in year 11 and I didn't get the opportunity to to literature this year like I hoped , so I decided to do it in year 12 with out having done it in year 11. I wanted to know if you think that was silly of me or if you have any advise?
