Leah, in all of the paintings I've done over the years, I should have used a paint strainer like you demonstrated. So many times I have gotten large chunks in my sprayer that have caused me headaches. For anyone watching, I don't care how long you have been in the trades, Leah's videos will show you so much!

As a pro, I have a few other basics. It's just painting so it's all pretty basic. Dust is your enemy on residential walls and ceilings. Get it all off by using a dust mop and a blower and ventilating it out. How do you tell a good spray fan pattern from a bad one? No lines at the edges. If you rent a machine, buy your own new spray tip. Rentals are usually old tips that give uneven and streaking results. Tape your edges, then tape your masking to your tape for delicate and intricate areas. Wear an old pair of work shoes because your favorite work shoes will be covered with paint. Have several pairs of safety glasses so you can exchange them for a clean pair to see as you go when doing ceilings. Put your machine on a plastic tarp because that area is going to get the most mess when cleaning and testing and changing paint. Cardboard masking role will get soaked through. Start at the furthest end of your spray hose and work back towards the spray pump so your hose doesn't hit walls that are already painted. Use an assistant to help with the spray hose, changing or refilling the paint bucket and keeping your protective glasses clean as you switch them for clean ones. The assistant can also take care of over spray. If you over spray a section and it runs, use a roller to role off the over spray. Wait 5 minutes or so and respray the section lightly. Role the roller clean on a section that you haven't sprayed yet and keep a damp cloth on it so it doesn't dry out between the next time you over spray. Start moving the spray gun before you start spraying. Keep moving the spray gun after you stop spraying. Keep the gun clean during your break or over night by submerging it, with the hose still attached, in a bucket of water. Always clean your spray tips and gun thoroughly between jobs, change of paint, and even over night. Masking takes a little more time than painting in or cutting edges. But you only have to do it once. Spraying takes at most 1/8 the time as regular brush and role painting. Sprayed moldings look incredible and are the next level of quality so maybe you just want to spray your moldings. Oil paint takes forever to dry. Spraying out doors watch out for the wind and your neighbors! Latex paint may dry in the air and come down only as dust but oil paint will be a big costly clean up if it lands on your neighbors car or bricks, etc..

1 minor correction... Oil paint dries as instantly as any... It takes forever and its damn brothers TO CURE... I know... I sound pedantic... Water-based (aka "Acrylic") tends to have chemistry that works WITH humidity, and any moisture at all will do you, so it cures in almost all conditions anyways... some of it's actually alcohol based, but we can quibble about splitting hairs on THAT subject another time... Oil paints (aka "Enamel") are organic (carbon based) chemistry and POLYMERIZE (yes, that's the same root-word "poly" as in "Polyurethane", and for the same reasons)... This means they've essentially formulated plastic and/or rubber into the paint with ordinary hydro-carbon oil to make the coating last longer... Problem is, as many already note, IT FRIGGIN' STINKS... at least, so long as it's still oil... It's very similar to the process of CURING out Linseed or Teak Oil finish in woodwork... They polymerize, and linseed (at least) is notoriously "exothermic" (meaning it MAKES heat) to cure and harden... SO until it stops stinking the coating isn't durable like it's advertised to be... EVEN IF you won't leave finger prints or pick up pain on your hands when you touch it... ALL paints (anymore) do similar. Most will cure out faster in warmer weather, but not all... AND Acrylics just don't quite have that "kick you in the nose" sensation to their odor that you'll get from enamels... BUT if they smell, they haven't finished curing either... so be gentle... It can actually take about a Week or so to cure. Linseed (for instance) can take as long as a month... so I'm not joshing about it taking as long as forever and its damn brothers... haha... Anyways... THE POINT is that there's TWO (2) stages to finished paint or clear or any coating... 1 dry, which is just enough that you no longer rub it visibly off the substrate on touching it... and 2 Cure, when it's fully hardened up and protective. Until you get to CURED, it's still going to be easily damaged, chipped, knocked off or "smushed" and you can quickly break down that protection... which might really make you wonder why you bothered at all... and at worst can REALLY piss you off for the expense in time, materials, money, and equipment... The Devil's in those details if you actually CARE about a project. It's worth knowing... just to be sure WHY I'm pedantic on this "relatively little" point. ;o)

Good luck on those cabinets. There are 1000 ways to mess up a cabinet job. Cleaning, sanding , cleaning again, priming, light sanding, low pressure on your sprayer and a very fine tip for your spray gun. Light coats with good dry time in between. Lots to think about my friend.

Good video delivery. Funny that Sprayer comes with antifreeze. In the UK there's much debate on this and not to use it but to keep with Pump Armour to protect the Sprayer. How do you think that Sprayer would handle low pressure spraying using a 208 or 210 tip etc and about 1000psi?
