Instead of using a ground sheet, I use the cheap clip together foam squares, they increase your mattress thickness by a centimetre, be sure to get the ones with the holes, it reduces moisture buildup and the pack has enough squares for storing gear on.

My double swag came with an interior centre bendy pole which is awesome because I don’t have to worry about taking a piece of poly pipe to keep the sides out. Thanks for the great tips. I will be getting mine out and airing it out ready for the Xmas camping season. 👍🇦🇺

I have the same kings double swag, I've cut a pool noodle in half and put half each side of the mattress in between the zip and mattress. Originally I did this to push the zip out as water was collecting in the sag and soaking the mattress when it rained.. bonus was that it opened up the space inside from the sag. Great idea with the water pipe arch. Cheers for the video ✌🏼

Thanks for the great tips guys! Can I just add that some Dune swags are great apparatus for collecting a plentiful supply of fresh rain water. The one I purchased, on special from Anaconda, had seems that leaked like a sieve, no amount of seasoning or sealing could stop the flow, and as a result, the pvc base would fill up like a tub. This made for an efficient yet rather inconvenient way to collect an abundant water reserve, great for general purpose use around camp. Thankfully, Anaconda kindly accepted that the notion of sleeping in 2 inches of water did not appeal to me as much as one might think, and unenthusiasticlly refunded my hard earned cash. After this, I went and purchased a 23Zero swag, which has pre-sealed seams as standard, and I haven't looked back. Looking forward to seeing more vids from you guys.

I hadn't thought of putting my swag on top of a stretcher bed. I've got one, I might try it out for size next time. I always put a ground sheet down, whether I'm using a tent or swag. I've often had a tarp over to top a bit like a lean to shelter when it wet or even sometimes when it's the middle of summer. A tarp used like a lean to can help keep your tent or swag a lot cooler instead of it being like a sauna inside.
@ChaseTheWeekend
@ChaseTheWeekend Год назад
good idea, it can get pretty hot when the sun's beating down on it.
@stuffbywoody5497
@stuffbywoody5497 Год назад
@@ChaseTheWeekend , I like how you guys used your awning on the side of your 4×4 in the same way. Combine that with the stretcher bed (as I'm guessing you guys have already done) under the swag and that would keep it nice and cool. All ya need then is a nice cross breeze coming off a creek or river and you're set. Then sit back with one of your jaffle cheese burgers and a cold beer out of the creek and ya set. Anyone would think I've been watching some of your videos........ 😁 🍻🍔

A little hack for rectifying sag in the Kings deluxe double swag is to buy the spares kit for the XTM 1400mm double swag. The bows fit perfectly inside and you just need to wrap the pole ends in gaffer tape to stop it poking a hole through the swag floor.

@auswi
@auswi Год назад
That was an awesome set of tips for swags. I have an ARB and it doesn't suffer from saggy sides, but the hose pipe is a super "fix" if it did happen. I use a self-inflating mattress as well as the 75mm standard one wrecks your back by about night two. I used to have a canvas ground cover as well, but I find if it rains, it just collects water and in the middle of the night you step out into little ponds. For this I use a mesh cover from Kings. Sorts out the rain water and sand perfectly. Love the fly/side rolling tip as well. Hadn't thought of this and will make life much easier. Cheers.
@ChaseTheWeekend
@ChaseTheWeekend Год назад
Hi Brendan, no problem. Matt uses a self inflating mattress for the same reason. We recently grabbed a single for one of the kids and the '50mm' mattress was actually about 35mm so we stripped it and glued it to the top of a 50mm foam sheet, big improvement and still fits in the swag bag!

Yes, we had swags (and dome tents) years ago when we were kids just getting into 4x4ing and then moved into Jayco pop top campers once our own kids came along and now the kids are older were going back to swags haha. @ChaseTheWeekend
@ChaseTheWeekend 16 дней назад
Mines been brilliant, I've used it on at least 15 different trips now, no issues but I did put a hole in it with the cross bar where I missed the eyelet on one end. The sides do sag in a fair bit which is fine if one person is in there but with 2 you'd want to look at the middle bar mod aka pool noodle or pvc pipe. The mattress is pretty thin, I actually run a self inflating air mattress over the top if camping in it for more than one night. We might have to do a 2yr review on it and some of the other swags we have. I just bought a new Oztrail and the thing is so much better but it was about 3 times as expensive, and much bigger and heavier. Thanks for watching!

Hey, thanks for watching. I suppose it really depends on the rain and the swag. The more seems and stitches the more chance of water penetration. Not much will keep rain out if it's coming in horizontal haha. To be honest, the first sight of rain and I'm gone, don't like getting wet haha.

@cyclemoto8744
@cyclemoto8744 8 месяцев назад
@@alanadebear9560 rolled up with the end of roll facing down so water doesn't get in when it rains. Never been wet on the inside or dusty. In terms of longevity, other commentators have stated that the swag will wear better if protected, very logical however my swag is 10 years old and made from 100% Australian canvas and other than normal wear I have no issues with it. If I was travelling in red dust regions I can absolutely see the benefits of a bag because that stuff is nasty. Doesn't concern me whether others chose to always use a bag but I'm yet to see evidence of their practicality in most applications if the swag is made from high quality materials. Each to their own. Cheers

One thing thats often overlooked is airing out the mattress with PVC lined swags. Its a reason why 100% canvas swags are a good idea - but less waterproof. Hot bodies over the PVC base generate condensation under the mattress which leads to mould build up.

I just bought a Dune King Titan swag, my 1st one, when seasoning them how long do they take to dry? Given its winter here days average about 12 degrees, will it dry in that kind of weather? Or should i wait till spring?
@ChaseTheWeekend
@ChaseTheWeekend Год назад
I'd say it would dry but might take a couple days depending on how wet it gets. The quicker it dries the better though as the canvas will shrink more but the canvas will continue to shrink over time anyway so if you did it now and then again in summer it won't hurt. Be aware though I seasoned a Barwon Swag in summer here and it dried in about an hour or so but I left it out for a few days and the colour in the canvas faded a bit. Thanks for watching!

Good video with some good advice about seasoning and drying a swag out. To be fair those, these are really tents not swags.

Thanks Mike, we hear that a lot haha 4WD Supacentre, Anaconda, BCF and the rest should really stop selling them as swags

Ages ago. Do a quick google search and you'll see the majority of what people call swags are these. Out with the old and in with the new. Not everyone wants to sleep with canvas on their face. Oh, and I know, if you know.

Tip fot rolling flaps. Always roll down, not up. Rolling down stops water getting caught in flap.

Another good idea is when its cold, hook it up to your exhaust and leave your big 4WD running..it will keep you toasty warm all night. 🎉🎉

What holds the water pipe in place from sliding over?
@ChaseTheWeekend

Hi Robert, just the weight of the canvas on the pipe seems to hold it in place. The other method is to use a pool noodle. Thanks for watching!

I bought a swag, seasoned it (or so I thought) took it out camping a few days later, it rained and Leaked inside. Does that still count as seasoning if it leaked? 😂

Good quality swag will solve your sagging issues and hosing won’t season it properly, as you can see in the video the water was beading off and not soaking in. Immersing in water for a couple of days does the job, I know this from experience and getting wet after only hosing.
@ChaseTheWeekend
@ChaseTheWeekend Год назад
Thanks for your comment. We've heard that soaking in a bath is the preferred way, we'll give it a go in a follow up video. I did try to take one of my double swags into the bathroom but two things happened, 1. My swag was too big for the bath so I would have to use the shower and 2. My wife wasn't impressed with my idea. The Kings swag in the video is an old swag that has been seasoned already, hence the water beading straight off, we only used it for the demonstration. I recently purchased a Barwon swag from Anaconda and it got a good soaking and has worked a treat since. Thanks again and make sure you check our other videos out too!

Plus walking through the house with heaps of water drips over the carpet trying to get out the back door. Plus a bathroom half flooded. Plus the weight trying to carry it. I think I'll use a clean large Otto bin to soak it

If you get your bucket floor snug around the bottom and sides of your mattress and fold your canvas in, so the bulk of it is in the middle you'll get her in tight, cause you don't end up with canvas poking out the ends, which makes it a nightmare to get it back in the bag

All dome seats sag a little bit, but the sag of the Kings swags is terrible. The end poles also seem to be poor quality and don’t hold their shape well under use. Kings is great as it makes camping affordable for everyone, but they’re overrated and don’t compare to brands such as Darche. If you can stretch the budget, don’t choose Kings. Either way, happy camping 🙂👍🏻
@ChaseTheWeekend
@ChaseTheWeekend Год назад
We agree Tristan, the Kings swags do seem to big the biggest culprits for saggy sides. They (4WD Supa Centre) do provide affordable products and we're not shying away from admitting we do have a bit of Kings gear and for the most part it does the job. Darche do a quality product and I'd love to get my hands on a Dirty Dee 1400. Thanks for watching!

What happens when you have seasoned it multiple times. Left it out in the rain and dried and still it leaks....probably from the top Ridge seam. Checked from inside to see if any light coming in. None on Ridge. Some small holes where tags are sewn near plastic liner at corners. Still a litre + water in base of swag 😳😳
@ChaseTheWeekend
@ChaseTheWeekend Год назад
Hey Sue, you can get seam sealer from most camping places or can even use wax. Worse case might need to just chuck a tarp over it or camp under an awning. Sounds like a pretty bad leak. Let us know how you get on. Thanks for watching.
