Love this series. Thank you for sharing. I have a stack of Harley shirts that my fiancé has collected throughout the years and are too small now (must be my good cook in’) lol. I think it be a really cool quilt because they are dealer shirts from all over that have the city and state on them. He will be able to remember all his trips when he sees it.

I am at 54 starting to sew and have always said I hate sewing when I secretly envied all my friends that made beautiful things when I fought learning in 7 years of home economics. Well I wanted to make quilts all my life and never believed I would and at Christmas a sweet lady gave me a sewing machine she was tossing out because the pedal was missing and I finally found a pedal online and have just started little projects and I couldn't remember how to thread the machine but my husband was kind enough to show me. He had asked to be shown years ago and sat down and reupholstered a 65 Mustang convertible. And it turned out like a professional had done it. Well I have a Cricut Maker and am pretty crafty and sewing is gonna come in with pillows and repurposing furniture. I have looked and looked online and you tube for my teachers and you've become my favorite because you use new and tried techniques. Now bear in mind for some reason I'm not getting this and I remember I didn't before either. And that's why I never wanted to try, but as long as I can stand less than perfect I am gonna keep on. I purchased a new machine and bought the Juki HZ something can't think but the machine I had already is a Euro ProX 385 and it's a dandy was planning to keep but think with all the interest and the price gouging right now that I'm gonna give to someone that wants to sew but can't really afford one. Okay that's my history looking forward to learning from you.

Lisa, I LOVE my Patchwork Machine. JoAnns had them on sale for Labor Day and my daughter got if for me, as an early Christmas gift😃🤗. It just so happen that i got the last Patchwork Machine, in Pa, because the factory burnt down.🤭. Best bang for the buck ever, and you’re right, IT IS A BEAST! Since then, so may people have been going around to JoAnns looking for it because of the fantastic, “word of mouth” reviews. It included like, what about 12 different feet, including walking foot and buttonhole foot.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

First timer here to your videos, it was excellent, love the way you put the t-sirt on. I am going to watch the rest. I made one quilt so far out of new born baby clothes. I and did the square design capturing the main element of the item. I did add socks and also printed some baby photos on plain fabric along with birth, wight, time, date and name, It turned out nice n mum was pleased but I would have loved to put all the item on like you did its more of a visual memory. Thank you so much for sharing this I really do appreciate it. I going to look at your other videos, hoping you have done one on how you did that design in Inkscape.

Do you find gluing takes less time than pinning? Does the glue not gum up your needle? Maybe that aspect of it is taken care of in the pressing.
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead 4 года назад
You are absolutely right, the iron dries the glue quickly and so you are not bringing wet glue to the machine :) I like glue basting because then I'm not poking my fingers with the pins, or removing a bunch of pins as I'm sewing along, and the glue holds everything perfectly. I'd say time wise......they both take about the same amount of time for me...glue basting vs. pinning.

i know that graph paper can be kind of hard to find at times in some areas. But at the dollar tree grap a roll of wrapping paper. not only this have have the graph on it but you can actually lat out the items you want to use.. and it would be reusable.

Hi Terri, you can certainly do a double sided t-shirt quilt :) lining up front and back could be tricky but certainly do-able and it's not necessary to do it as a rag quilt. Loving this! But i do have a question. You mention when starting off to sink your needle in the backgroud fabric. Is your ziz zag then 'centered' over the raw edge or does the zig, in zig zag, ride along the raw edge and the zig zag design is on the piece you're sewing down? Thanks!
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead 6 лет назад
I reckon you could do it how ever you prefer :) When I do it, my needle is right next to the raw edge and zigs INTO the applique, so the stitches are not truly "centered" over the raw edge. It's the same as a satin stitch. You could certainly move to the right some and center your stitching over the raw edge....however I think it's a matter of what kind of look you are trying to achieve. A zigzag stitch is more spaced out, and if you center the stitch over the raw edge, you will see small gaps on your background in between the stitching :)

@TheQuiltmakerHomestead
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead 6 лет назад
+dobielover quiltmaker Inkscape is a vectorizing software that I've used for years to make designs for my vinyl cutter. In working with it, I realized you could plan other things, like quilts! There are TONS of tutorials on RU-vid for using Inkscape. I always start by changing my document properties, and setting my page size to the size of my quilt. Then you can create blocks and move them around until you have a desired look. There is definitely a learning curve, as with most softwares.
