I broke my nail 2 weeks ago and did a teabag repair with dip base and covered in clear activated it then sealed it in builder gel for stronger protection then dipped over it all in colour my nail was thick AF but it saved my nail!
I am so glad that you did this video. I was looking for this but didn’t understand it when I first watch it because I have been watching so many videos. But now I do and am going to try this. Can you do no cure gel top coat on this and when you soak off the dip will you wreak your overlay? Thanks again for the video!
Watching a bunch of your videos, but especially this one, give me the courage to do my own first dip manicure including tips! It came out great, thank you so much!
Thanks for explaining this. I saw someone else do this and wanted to give it a try with a peel base. I didn't know that acrylic absorbs. It's so difficult to remove everything and I have super thin nails. The last time I did a removal I ruined my natural nails. So thanks.
You know Marla, I always learn something from you. My tip for today was how you match up your nails to make sure the lengths are equal on both hands. Simply check by putting them together at the knuckle. I always struggle with that, but now I have a new technique. Thanks as always for sharing your expertise.
New sub - I'm so happy to have found you Marla. I'm new to dip and new to giving two hoots about my nails at all honestly. Its become my self care hobby. Anyway - you are the first channel where I saw nails that I would want to have. I am currently binging on your content. And I think you're right - people do come back for the creator's personality ;) 'matter of factly' has slipped into my vocabulary! 😂
Yes! I did learn a LOT! I have seen the triangle application before and I find for myself this it’s much more natural (and faster!) than the apex method. I really don’t like the apex method- way too thick of nails for me. As always Marla, thank you!!
Dont know if you look for comments in your older videos but thought I'd ask just in case. When using base to adhere your tips what cures that base coat if the activator is on the extention? It doesn't penetrate the plastic tip I wouldn't think. I have some BTartbox extensions i want to use and Im battling in my head just what to use for adhesion. Ahhh, making me crazy. ( which doesnt take much). Thanks and im hoping you find this.😊
So, dip base is basically super glue. It’s air dry. Powder makes it hard for it to cure so that’s where the activator comes in! But to attach extensions, the base/glue will just dry on its own 💞
Okay, I started using dip (which isnt really a dip but more of a brush/tub on powder). The base is cured in a light but its not referred to as gel even tho there is no activator?? Its making my learning get all discombobulated. Anyway, thank you so much. I am having anxiety about putting glue on my nails and have only gel in a bottle. I have had trouble keeping tips on but with your tutorials im hoping... Thanks again. Your videos have spoiled me i just cant listen for long to anyone else. They start to sound like Charlie Browns teacher-wah, wah,wah....😘 seriously tho
Is it possible to apply tips on top of an overlay? Of so how would I do it and do u recommend applying the tips ontop of an overlay or , applying tips to natural nail then apply the overlay? I am trying to see the best way to do it if I'm wanting to grow out my nails and still be able to use tips until my natural nails grow out.
I love the YN top coat!! Love the video although it was a little fuzzy, just wanted you to know. Of course I love seeing every detail you do!! (With YN top coat I do still need to use a little alcohol, for some reason it's slightly tacky.)
Yeah I noticed that too when watching it all back this morning. I’m so sorry! No idea how or why that happened. Some of the YN top coats aren’t tack-free so you may still need to wipe them down. Totally normal!
hello there Marla. I just found this video of you and O have a question .. did you file your nails before activator or once you end with the dip you use the activator then file ? Thanks in advance for your videos :)
@Marla Kris love this video Sis! Just recently found you. I’m enjoying your videos. Adore how you try to respond to MOST comments. Love your style, voice, humor, and teaching methods. On dip liquids that have brush saver, do we just dip our bushes in the bottle when we are ALL DONE with a mani OR during the mani process do we randomly put like the bond brush in the saver???? I know we are supposed to OCD wipe bond brush on paper towel or lint free wipe but I cannot find a video of yours OR anyones about utilizing brush saver liquid. I’m doing my first DIY dip on my bday 5/27 and I’d like to not murder my brushes my first time.
Hey lovebug! Thank you so much for your kindness! And im so glad you’re here! 🥰 With brush saver.. I would recommend leaving the hardened brush in overnight. You can take the brush from the brush saver and use that in your dip liquids! Just swap them out! ❤️ Omgosh happy early birthday!! You so got this! Just remember - this is FUN! And takes a good bit of practice. Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Hi Marla! I have a question, can I seal or top coat my dip powder/acrylic over layer with dip powder top coat instead of gel top coat (like you did) before I begin my peel base application? I hope this make sense and by the way I love your videos!!!
Would a regular dip top coat work to prevent it from being porous? Do you put your peel base as per usual on top like cover the full nail? Do they last longer, less or just the same as putting peel base on the natural nail?
Yes!! 100%. Any glossy top coat would work perfectly!! Yes - I cover the entire mail with the peel base EXCEPT the front of the free edge. I don’t cap with peel base. I find they last longer over an overlay as opposed to a natural nail
Hi Marla! I'm new to dipping and your channel. I have learned SO much from watching your videos. You are adorable! Love your giggles lol! If you weren't using peel base would you still top coat your overlay? I want to start doing an overlay so I don't have to soak in acetone ever week but wasn't sure if I should top coat if I'm just going to go in with color dip right away. Thanks in advance!
This is kinda my same question. -Could I gel polish on this (not using the top coat yet)? -If I were to dip for color now, how many coats? * Do you ever use primer when starting the first dips?
So when choosing tip size, should it fit sidewall to sidewall - WITHOUT pushing down or can the fit be measured when you apply pressure to adhere it? Hope this makes sense!
Makes total sense! You want it to fit wall to wall with minimal pressure. If you have to force it, size up. You can also file the sides of your tips before you apply them so they’re more custom to your nails 💞
@@deannacoulter2957 ooh yay! I’m glad you’re dippin back in! (I know.. that was disgusting lol) no.. no primer unless you’re using gel liquids as opposed to dip liquids.
Peel base goes on after I buff the overlay smooth. I have a peel base removal video! I’ll link it for you ❤️ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ElffEDbn544.html
Yes ma’am you can use any glossy top coat you like! It’s just a personal preference thing.. I actually recorded that video before I fell in love with sparkle and co dip top so I use that now exclusively.
How do we really know which acrylic has no hema etc.... I'm super sensitive so I'm stuck bc I don't really know which dip powders are not gonna damage or break me out??? There are so many dip liquids so I don't really know what ones the best to use?? What do u recommend??
Acrylic doesn’t contain HEMA. Nor does the resin dip liquid. It’s the gel that can contain HEMA. . Anytime I have to use a gel product, I’ll reach out the the company and request a MSDS (manufacturer safety data sheet) which will tell me what’s in the gel (if it contains HEMA) Some HEMA free gels are Dipalicious and Light elegance. Madam Glam has SOME hema free gels, but I would double check with them before purchasing
Awesome, thank you. I have been going back an forth with which products to by and was gonna by mia secret bc u can do both dip an acrylics with it. I know there are others I just not sure which ones lol. I was worried bout the monomers and which ones might contain mma and hema?
I had recently got my nails done and my fingers broke out with blisters an itched so bad like that night and that was bout a month ago. I took them off with 100% pure acetone but I didn't use the ones that moisturized or had that sort of stuff in so that made it even worse as well bc the product that was on my hands from the tech just was swelled round in the bag when taking them off so I think that didn't help either unfortunately. I feel lost kinda....like I have know where else to turn. Your channel has given me some hope with alot of things I have learned from u so thank u.
@@SUGARDECLIPSENails I don’t know much about monomers BUT I know that it’s illegal to manufacture here in the states - so your safest bet would be a US company for monomers.
You can use builder gel, dip powder, or even acrylic with monomer! And yes, that’s true - if you did builder fills, eventually it would be a builder over lay.
@@SueRingquist super easy! I’m gonna link my dip powder problems video and my builder gel fill video for you. Towards the end of dip problems (it’s all time stamped for you) you’ll see how I would do a fill with dip. Hey love! I wish I could tell you which would fit the best but since I don’t have your nails, I doubt I’d get it right! My best advice would be don’t use a full cover tip. Welled tips (like the ones I use) are super flexible and only cover the free edge
@@SuperGlitterific if you want the dip to last (not chip or pop off) yes, you’ll want to rough it up some. These products don’t adhere well to anything shiny - natural nails or overlays.
Thank you. I barely did one nail because it broke and went by their advice of using a glass cuticle pusher and not roughing the nail up and just use the base as the adhesion omg lifting in less than two days. I have to use an electric file to do cuticle work and need to have the nail roughed up to adhere. I didn’t use as rough as a grit though. So I’ll see how long it last on me. Side note I have literally thick cuticle that adheres and grows up just nail plate. I should have known a glass cuticle pusher wouldn’t do anything. Thank you for sharing this
Doing my nails in any way, takes me DAYS. 😂 I just take my time. I have so much to do, and it’s hard for me to stay focused on one thing for a while. I get frustrated. I haven’t been able to get dipping down. Idk if it’s my products or what. But it won’t work! I go to apply the activator and it’s still sticky! Like, the last time I did it, was probably over a year ago when I tried it. And the nail (I was practicing on false nails) is literally still sticky. I have modelones system, but the activator is by EO. Thing is, even before the activator, it should’ve dried right? It didn’t. So idk what I did wrong. I try all these things like stamping too, and stamping? OMG. It makes me literally cry because I have tried every single method of using a stamper, I’ve used two different stampers. I have the maniology kit so it’s a good system. I’m just good at making glitter mixes. I’m not good at even applying extensions of any kind. They look nice when I’m done, but it takes me forever because I find every flaw and have to fix them. OCD. The worst part for me is the cuticle area. I’ll ALWAYS have lifting. I can swear to you that I prep my nails very well! I use good products! But I’m going wrong somewhere. I need someone to help me lol
Same here. Taking product off is the worst. Found a different technique for next time, so hoping to cut down time. I love the way my nails look afterwards. I think for me I just need more practice. The filing is very time consuming.
I like this video. I just wish I could get the hang of dipping! Btw, I did send you an email back when you told me to email you a couple of weeks ago. But haven’t heard back from you. So I’m not sure if I typed it in right. lol. But it would tell me if it was an invalid email address. So idk. Maybe you missed it? I sent you a couple of pix too!
Hi!!!! 🙋🏼♀️ future nail tech here currently in school and almost finished!!! To follow up with you said about what grit to use on the natural nail you should never use anything under 240 on the natural nail because the nail is fragile and can easily be damaged with anything lower than a 240. 180 is still too aggressive to use on the nail. I hope this helps 😊
It’s so crazy bc I hear other nail techs and instructors say 240 is too fine and won’t help adhesion. I heard on youtuber (a pro tech) say to use a 100 grit on the natural nail!! I guess everyone teaches differently 🤷🏼♀️ thanks so much for your insight!
@@MarlaKris i would agree when saying we are all taught differently! I have been taught you don’t want to use anything lower than 240 on the natural nail because it can cause your nail to split and be brittle if you over file the nail with a grit to strong. However each person is different and you know what works for you and that’s all that matters!
@@amberallen5830 you’re so right!! It’s really does depend on the person, which gets frustrating during any type of instruction bc not everything works for everyone. But what your saying makes total sense! And I very much appreciate the perspective. Thank you for that!
