I bought one of these because I wanted to create binaural beats, which it does very well. The Buchla-TipTop releases were great, very reasonably priced and more powerful, more unique than you would expect, given that they’ve been around since the Dawn of modular synthesis. The Quad Function Generator is essentially 4 ADR/AD/ looping envelopes but you can CV modulate the attack and release times, trigger each independently, and you can mix them together with the unique quad function. Account ding the manual, the Quadrature function shifts one function by 90 degrees compared to the other - I’d love to know exactly what this means!! I also have the Sequential voltage source, which is a 5-step, four channel analogue sequencer. There is some independence in the way these run (you can trigger them from an internal ‘pulser’ clock or an external source, but I was disappointed that the 4 sequences can’t be triggered independently from each other. You can attenuate the pulser time, though, and this is where you get that unique Buchla ‘bouncing balls’ sound. I didn’t bother with the Voltage Processor, as I have Maths to do that CV processing stuff. Can’t find the Low-Pass gate anywhere in Europe, they were popular I think. I do have the Intellijel Quad VCA, which is extremely useful.

It was a slightly less than responsible of a purchase for me, but I have zero regrets :) the 258t is a must have imo, especially if you're first starting out. Two oscillators with built in utility function and individual control is a no brainer. I'll probably end up buying a full 200 series for the sake of experiencing the legendary (what used to be limited) west coast approach. Great video!

Cheers thanks! I think this is the most interesting module to me, because it is so different to what I'm used to. But a full set would be dope!

Gorgeous synth lead sound. Thank you, kind of reminds of of Pink Floyd type synth lead sounds, eg beginning of Shine on You Crazy Diamond. I tried to create something similar in Plaits since Alg No1, dual osc, allows CV->Waveshaping of osc 2 from Tri->Saw. osc 1 just does standard pwm, but combining the two or just using osc2, with some envelopes from Quadrax (which allows cascading envelopes, so only one gate neccessary), I was able to achieve a nice lead. I also did the same with STO, env->shape. Less similar results than with Plaits, but mixing the STO with Plaits was cool. That's what I love about these videos, if you don't have the module in question just try the same technique with what you do have. Love the sound of the 258t!

Watching this next to my girlfriend; “What did he say? Did he say his name is Jorum?” “No, Jorb.” “Ohhh…that’s stupid.” Don’t worry bud, I had your back. I told her that HER name was stupid!

The FM input with the silver nut is for audio only. Patch the output from the other VCO in for linear FM. It is not meant for CV modulation.
@JorbLovesGear

Can I ask, what makes it different? Isn't it all voltage?
@jordanevo3
@jordanevo3 2 года назад
@@JorbLovesGear One is for Linear FM, which typically uses an audio source as a mod source. The other is exponential, and is typically a CV input. Its also bipolar, allowing you to transpose up and down (as one example).

Cool did you ever use the MakeNoise DPO.

I haven't but it was something I was watching for used ones when I was getting my oscillators.

This is very comparable to the DPO, or STO's, but at half the cost. All are excellent oscillators!
@SectorSevenSlumz

This is not comparable to a dpo at all. Totally different beasts and the dpo is far more complex in it's internal normalling and self patching. It's so so much more varied and interesting in tone and possibilities. Not saying this is bad in any way. Just totally completely different. 😃

is there such thing as a modular sampler that you could enclose in that? How much is that whole keyboard with all the modular worth. I'm asking out of interest and to see if I'd rather just get a keyboard that can do all of that without paying so much money and having to hook up all the wires every time I want to make music.

Moog Grandmother or Matriarch...they are semi-modular so you can make music without plugging in any cables but then if you want to dive deeper and do some patching there's plenty of patch possibilities on both of those.
