Thanks for the info! I went to Albania back in February/ March 2020. The next day the country went into their first covid lockdown and I had to fly back home. I was in Gjiokaster and it was completely abandoned, I had the town all to myself. Pretty haunting and cool experience
Nice video and very fair! I want to live in Tirana too but I also want to open a business and that can be difficult in Albania because the infrastructure issues you said.
I never quite understood why the city where I live in, Tirana, for the most part of my life, was quite hated. It is so cheap, there are alot of jobs and most importantly, the beach and mountain are within 1 hour away. I got everything in it and is really hard for me to leave my country, especially because now you get remote jobs. Plus if you have an EU wage, like 2000-3000 euros, Tirana is a dream city, you have everything. Also for the electricity part, I had 1 power outage this whole year, which lasted like 5 minutes. It depends on which zone you live as there are some zones with bad electricity and others are quite good.
So power outrage in your zone lasted for only 5mins that is good to know! What about municipal waste? Is it true that side streets, parks and beaches are littered with trash ? How is the public transport or you advise you buy a car and how much is that , fuel , insurance etc thanks
@@oluwaseunakanbi8317 The littered trash it depends which parts are you in. In Tirana, you always find a bus. On other cities probably you will have problems. You have to rent a car, which is way cheaper than a taxi. For example going to the beach in Durres, I always have to wait for the bus which might take up to 30 minutes or even more and you wake up at 8 oclock in Tirana, only to find yourself at the beach at 12 oclock because those buses waste so much time. (I have seen tourists too waiting for the bus to the beach of Durres) With a car you are from Tirana to Durres in 60 minutes or maybe less. They say Tirana buses will become less frequent in the upcoming months. So I strongly recommend renting a car, but there is also traffic since everybody is going to the beach nowadays. For the electricity, they have done a lot of work along all beaches since we have 2 million tourists this year, probably will boom again next year to 3 million.
Well, Tirana Is a nice place, but still miles away from the levels of organitization infrastructure, and huge cultural offer of many other European cities. I can give you 10 examples for your consideration: Barcelona, London, Madrid, Ámsterdam, Roma, Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Istanbul and Stockholm. Still, I believe Tirana has a great potential and over the next years will become a real modern and lively city.
Police corruption used to be a serious problem, but with the latest development: strict control, firing corrupted ones, better education, younger police force, body cams, this shouldn't be such a problem right now...other than that, I agree with your on point video.
Please define police corruption. In Mexico cops are bribed by the cartel to kidnap you and chop you to pieces. In Albania corruption works to get out of a speeding ticket. As far as safety for me Albania is the safest country on earth 😎. Yes I’ve lived in New York for the past 20 years and i have traveled every corner of the world and i say that with a great confidence.
Don't try to pay the police because now they got body cameras and you can get arrested. Has been a few years that they are using them and the videos go public. You can find the videos I youtube too.
I have never payed any police in Albania but I have taken the rules seatbelt , normal speek and have speak to them respectably , but there are different police forces but in total are great professionals
All you said its true. There are good and bad things there. Im albanian and since I live in Usa,Im affraid to drive there now😁 the only thing I miss are food and social life in there. Economy sucks, but if you have an American salary, you can really enjoy your life there😁
Albania has changed so much from the worst year 1997 and only in 20 years is a nice country to live and has many things to develop ! In the worst year of the democracy Albania was about 0 level and very por people fighting and no money in pocket payment was 70-100$ month taday after 20 years has changed the things payments are from 400€ average and many things are better and is much more to do! Albania isn’t in EU this mean don’t have financial big projects from the union but it has some help , so don’t has such benefits like Bulgaria or Romunia or Poland etc , but the point is that Albanians are hard workers , police isn’t corrupted but police is sometimes your father your familiar or your friend or enemy becouse the country is small and people know each other in some way , we know the police the teacher the deputy the farmer the student the enemy becouse in some small places this is normal to know each other ! Police people are great specially the older with more experience , problems are with public administration and with some other problems of daily life and burocracies … also infraasrtutcure is in problems but let’s hope for more development
I enjoyed the video, thanks. it mentions ATM fee up to even 10€ , surely a “CON” but not unique to Tirana..a few months ago I paid 7€ to Santander in Madrid for a small withdrawal, needed the cash. C’est ca.
I want to settle down in Albania or Montenegro which person we can meet for my paper work n visa job n buss is good I want to settle down pls gave reply thanking you
Paying off the cops is the best. It can really save your butt in certain scenarios especially the driving without a license. That would definitely be considered a major pro considering how police handle traffic stops here in the states.
I can't agree about the food, I am Albanian and I lived all my live there and 3 years ago I moved to USA, And only the first year of being here I added 30 LBS , because the food here it's full of chemicals and growth hormones plus there is no cooking culture here , even in Restaurants you order food and 15 mins later they bring you the food,80% of places microwave your food, in Albania most of food it's fresh and not frozen and it's fully cooked after you order it, microwave don't exist in Albanian kitchens, about the rest I agree about the police that doesn't happen all time but unfortunately It might happen
Well presented.. I am thinking of living in Albania.. as the u.k is a rip off.. and Albania is value for money.. and probably safer… and better culture than the u.k.. it’s very small minded where I live in east lothian… beautiful but the local mentality.. gets to my free thinking
Now they have created apps. Taxi is like 5€ from one side of the city to another. But the thing is that eventhough 5€ its not expensive with a bus you can surpass 5 different cities on 5€. Tirana Public Transport is so cheap almost for free but a lot of tourists take the wrong buses as its.very complex the system of public transport
Bro your in Albania for a month and you show a map that doesn't represent Kosovo as an independent nation. Ya Kosovo is 95% Albanian and no Serbia does not have claim to it. But yes all ethnicities should be respected including Albanians
exatcly, these American vlogers are either too lazy or too ignorant. Sometimes it looks like they only go to third world countries to either do some "funny" videos or to do some "bride shopping", since they cannot fine one in their home countires.
Next time get a map with well-defined Kosovo borders as the US recognizes Kosovo as an independent country. That was more than enough for me to not share this video.
USA is neither world's goverment nor do they decide which country is independent or not. 40 percent of the world is not recognizing Kosovo to be independent
@@slavakaza he is a US citizen and his government recognizes Kosovo, so he should have included an updated version of the map. Whether or not 40% of countries recognize it as independent or not doesn't change that Kosovo is an independent country with it's own sovereign territory and government, because facts do not care about feelings.
@@hoti47 I don't know about you but my goverment doesn't dictate me what country I have to accept as Independent or not. Does the US? Fact is that the border is internationally disputed which is correctly represented on the map shown. Anything else is a political statement and the guy tends not to take any side.
@@slavakaza first of all I did not ask for your opion on anything. I just stated my reasons why I disliked the video and why I will not share it with anyone. on the second point, yes it does. Try and establish some kind of trade relations with a country that your goverment doesn't recognize. Also try and get a visa for some country that your goverment doesn't recognize. Even the statement that "the border is internationally disputed" is a political one. And no, on the map the borders weren't shown correctly, nor stateted that they are internatinally disputed. He is either a lazy editor or he doesn't know the history of the countries he visits.
I love everyone says "cheap" but if average is 400 and they spend 2 euros x 3 that's 180 euros, or half of their take home. Just to eat. Rents are easily 400-600 per month, unless you ive in a shack at 200 euros. So there goes everything. You never get ahead. And that sucks.
rents for a 1 bedroom apartment very close to the centre are 200, not 400-600. The price you are stating is the average for a 3 bedroom apartment. Don't look at Airbnb, prices there are usually much higher because of commissions and the fact that it is a short term lease.
Istanbul is on another level, Tirana can t be compared to it, nice city centre with a good vibe but most of acrivities are located in this centre, suburbs look like a ghetto village, infrastructures are really poor.
I liked Tirana for its surrounding mountain scenery. The men are stubborn, never ready to admit they are wrong. The mentality is back to front. Probably it's the Balkan stuff😅 The food was nicer than Turkish food. More fresh vegetables and varieties.
Advice: Don't call it "North Macedonia" when you arrive there. I just spent three months in Ohrid. I was told "North" is the "N-word". You do your research well, so I'm sure you know what I mean.
Well that’s what it is called now north Macedonia. The people here are so touchy no wonder it’s the balkans. I mean north Macedonia is what the Macedonian people agreed to.
Another Con, garbage. By the way is not Albanian fault about the fees. FYI is Chase, TD, American banks who charges you the fees. By Law, any bank in Albania cannot charge more than 0.50 to $5 for transaction. All are controlled by Bank of Albania. All exchange rates in Albania, are way fare compare to banks in US and Canada. As well Exchange stores, mostly they don't charge you commission. And they are safe. Look in Prague, Budapest, Sofia, i dare you exchange the money outside. In Italy, Germany, France US$ will be changed as 0.75 Euro.
Albanians are not diverse, actually Albanians are one the most homogeneous populations in continental Europe (except Island, and some Sami tribe). What you see as "diverse religion", if you get to know Albanians a bit more, 70-90% of them are not religious at all, which washes out the religion diversity.
Hey guy.... good food is not a negative thing unless you are a jealous guy from America used to gain weight by eating American traditional cussine also known as fast food. Ejejeje 😂
I was told that all achievements begins with the step to start,I got recommended here also about Austin how he help make hug profit for people I have tired now I have made withdrawal within a short period of time
