Your comment around 6:10 regarding flats typically happening to the rear tire is spot on in my experience. In fact, I have never had a front tire flat on an ebike only rear so I agree with you 100% but it almost defies logic that the leading tire would be the tire that rarely flats.
@maximumchargeEV
@maximumchargeEV Месяц назад
I think it's because most of the weight is on the rear tire.

Interesting subject regarding tyre pressure, I'm gunna enjoy this one (..as per usual).. Love the little tyre pump, super handy to have. Cheers for the great content mate!

So tire pressure doesn't affect speed. I'd love for you to do a similar test for range. Say a 2 or 3 mile loop done at 10, 20 & 30psi. Measure the voltage before & after each run to get a % of battery used. Waiting for my Wired Cruiser & just need more content until I can get on my own :D ! Thanks for all the videos.

I might redo the test! Seems like a lot of people are interested.

In any experiment you must control all variables, except the one you are testing. Doing a timed test where you start out with a freshly charged battery, but NOT recharging between runs will skew the results. For this test to be valid, you needed to charge between runs. To verify this, recharge your battery and repeat the 30 PSI test. If the results are the same, then your test was valid. If it is quicker, then your "unconstrained variable of battery charge state" was significant, and skewed your results. The choice of tire size is important too. On a more narrow tire, the results would be more pronounced.
@maximumchargeEV
@maximumchargeEV Месяц назад
good point. That would be too much work, plus the charge difference between each run is negligible

Put flat out in both tires people don't be cheap about it. I've seen many a front tire flats.

Not cheap, just didn't get around to it yet. I have a bunch of full bags of flatout waiting to be used :)

I got a flat on the front the other day , only because I did NOT use it in my new tire s, Never again , I was 8 miles from home !!Bike is WAY to heavy to carry/drag home !!

yup a portable air pump is mighty nice - I have 1 I won from himiway (a bit larger) and use it on the car & truck. my ebikes have 24x4 tires and I run 15 on the loose gravel/dirt roads (softer better grip) 20 psi on the pavement for easier rolling (really a 4" tire isnt meant to go fast) I do notice a difference in "my" energy expended when pedaling. (your results may vary) ;) [my thoughts/opinion] minimum PSI might be 12 on ebike tires, my tires say 5 psi min, But Ive ridden bikes awhile and tire slippage is a thing as are the sheared stem when slips in the rim and - oops - allow experience to be a guide [learn from history - yadda yadda] :) so my go to is 15 to 20 PSI, as I like the tires to grip and roll over and absorb things that "might" cause damage? and yes it feels better to me too. (just a thought) yeah a lower PSI will do better for suspension as well as more grip area. also rolls over those sharp rocks that might otherwise damage a tire :o * I am happily surprised at how often I use the portable air pump.

I also like how when the tires are softer, they make the ride feel softer as well.

It would be nice to see the test run again but this time showing how many watts it takes to get the same speed, a good motor and controller won't slow the speed but it will increase the wattage to achieve the same result.

Hmm, what's the maximum recommended pressure of these tyres? It's got me wondering if maybe you should've done 40, 50 p.s.i too? I'm wondering because I ride with Schwalbe 'marathon' tyres and they have a pressure rating of 55 to 100 p.s.i (4 - 7 bar).
@Old_Man_Pete
@Old_Man_Pete Месяц назад
Fat tyres don't need as much psi as a thinner tyre, you can run them as low as 2psi and for that size tyre 30psi is about the max it can take.
@MickyBee73
@MickyBee73 Месяц назад
@@Old_Man_Pete Ah right, cheers Pete...yeah, had me wondering why so low?!? My Schwalbes are 26" 1.50 so they are very thin in comparison..I've never been a fan of the fat-tyre looks, but I bet they are very comfortable as opposed to my super-skinny ones though 😅 I'll be in need of a new pair of tyres in month or so, I wonder just how wide a tyre I can put on my 26" rims - I wonder if I could put 2.00 instead of the 1.50 width on them I really like the 1.50 Schwalbes but I'm thinking a slightly wider tyre would be a bit more comfortable? It's all a big learning curve as this is the very first E-bike I've built, a very enjoyable learning process I must admit 😅👍 Cheers Pete!
