Just added someone to my blocked buyers list today for making an offer that I accepted and then immediately asking to cancel. Then messaged me to ask for an even lower price. Gotta love it.
I think I’m getting played someone offered a higher price for my item And of course I excepted it and hasn’t paid so I already sent a message to Flea stay because lots of people are asking for this item
It happens a ridiculous number of times to me, like 30-50% of times! It's definitely getting worse. Buyers should be temporarily banned for 3-6 months IF they dont pay, this is only way they will learn and change their behaviour! Or somehow charge them at the point of buyers acceptance. They need to step in because its ruining the experience for honest sellers!
@@TheChaChingKing absolutely and it feels like it's happening more and more, because buyers have no real penalty. If they were temp suspended from buying they would feel it!
I understand how you feel as it's happened to me several times. The worse is when you ship the item and they lie about the item not being described. To really illiminate all of this and I know it would probably add additional shipping times and some won't agree with it. eBay would set something up like authentication w/ all the items being sold. Just like they do with shoes. We sell something and it goes to eBay first and they will check it and then they ship it to the buyer. That way those scammers can no longer scam. They can't lie about the item to get a refund because eBay already checked it.
I’m a consistent seller on eBay myself. Accept an offer yesterday without checking the buyers feedback first. Turns out they have feedback from other sellers saying they haven’t paid thanks for the advice will definitely remember that next time.
@@TheChaChingKing Same here I’m giving them until I have the option to cancel when it shows buyer hasn’t paid. So they can’t ruin my 100% positive feedback.
Good advice. I always use the "Require buyers to provide a payment method..." HOWEVER it does not work for auctions OR if YOU sent an offer to a buyer. It only works if THEY make you an offer. But still, it's a good feature. It helps a lot. If a buyer buys an item on auction or accepts an offer I sent and does not pay, I BLOCK them. I don't accept excuses for irresponsibility. They tie up your item so no one else can buy it for 4 days. That's just me. You do what you wish.
If they tie my item up and don't communicate a REALLY good reason for it, I block them, too. My hope is that eBay will eventually require payment upon purchase. But I'm not holding my breath.
Thank you so much for making these helpful videos!!! I’m new to selling on eBay and what you’re describing is the single most frustrating part of the experience so far! I’ve noticed that if the buyer doesn’t pay within a couple hours of me accepting their offer - they typically don’t pay.
Yes, you've made a huge difference in my reselling career. I was following many resellers. Now I'm down to only two! You and Justin sells. You two guys make the most sense, are excellent teachers, and are easy to follow.
Thank you Scott for sharing this!! I had 5 sales with no payment last week and had to cancel 2 big sales after the buyer didn't pay or reply to my payment reminders :( Not sure if its the time of year this situation happens more often, or just a coincidence, but I greatly appreciate your tips and have now put them in place!!
I’ve already encountered this. It’s really frustrating when Ebay limits new sellers - those cancelled sales count against the monthly limit so it makes it harder to get sales and then the feedback necessary to have the limit removed.
Oh wow, I did not know the canceled sales counted toward your monthly count. That's ridiculous since the seller has no control over that. I learned something new today.
You are super awesome! I love watching your videos. They are simple to follow and straight to the point. As a Wife, Mother and Owner of three small businesses my time is limited and I appreciate that you don’t waste it. There is always good information in your videos. Thanks!
You always make a difference Scot! The willingness to teach others is just incredible. And I just learned another thing from you as always! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos! Hugs to you and Melody! - Koko
All they have to do is make a new account.. I made my account in about 5 min & I suck at computers! So it would take these guys if they're pro"s probably around 2 minutes😂 basically none of these things you mentioned would apply to them because they get to start all over again.
Brand new to this thank you so much for the information I'm probably going to be watching all your videos all day, just what I needed to get motivated make some room in my closets!😊
Been selling for almost a year now and all of the sudden I am having this issue with people not paying for items and getting no communication from them with Reminders. Did not know these buyer restrictions existed. Great video. Thanks for the help.
They don't pay I'll cancel the order and put it on my Sell page info what they did, they are asking to contact outside of ebay which is breaking contract in first place ebay needs to get on their stuff
In all my years of selling, I've had my 1st buyer not pay last week. So odd too. 1st they sent a low ball offer. After that rejection, they doubled their offer which I accepted. Then no payment. I sent a nice reminder message and nothing...so I let the 4 days pass to relist. I implemented your suggestions. Thank you, new subscriber here ✋️
I think it’s possibly boredom and trolling. Send an offer just to see if you accept. I have honestly heard of people getting into a bidding war and just because they don’t want to lose the auction they continue to outbid the other potential buyer and then never pay
This is such great information and so helpful! I've been selling on eBay for years and never knew this was an option! I know it's been at the top of the list for many of us eBay sellers for eBay to require immediate payment but we're still waiting so this will hopefully resolve some of the non payment issues! THANK YOU from Katy, TX!
I keep hearing that eBay is moving in this direction. And there's been a few times recently that I'm gotten immediate payment when I took and offer. But, I still want to block people that just don't pay.
@@TheChaChingKing i'm really only aware of the blocked list, i see ebay has improved this management section way more than in the past. so, thanks for clueing us in
Thank you so much! I’m new and I just did what you show. Thank you I’m a follower now. I’m so tire of this fake buyers, but I’m still here!! Thanks again 🤗
Hmmm...Rebill them after a refund? I'm not sure I've ever done that. I have cancelled a sale before and the buyer had to repurchase it. But I've never had a situation to rebill or reinvoice a customer after I've refunded them.
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this. I had to learn on my own how to block a rather scary buyer and block them from contacting me on my own. It was quite stressful to say the least. Great tips for non-payers! I cross list so when someone has my item "captive" I have to take it down from all sites until they decide to pay...or not.
Thank you! You have helped me alot to figure things out. I am about a month into selling; not a store but thinking of the transition. Wish me luck! P.S. I am in Alaska ;here shipping is a challenge.
The only good advice on this subject on the all of RU-vid . Thank you sir. I have already done all these steps prior to watching . I was just looking for extra info. Also an extra bit for everyone is one has to wait the 4 business days required in to cancel an order for nonpayment. I know it’s tempting to cancel the order and just re-post your item but we must stick to your guns on this one and wait it out. That way the that account gets a ding or mark for nonpayment. I don’t know if eBay even does anything about that or do buyers just get a slap on the hand ? but if plenty of us do it I’m pretty sure it will make a difference, so wait it out everyone. Thanks again
You can also check on a different page to see how many times this feature has blocked bad potentially bad purchases. I had 11 in one month. Can you imagine that headache? It. Works.
Awesome! Very helpful video, Thanks! Been getting buyers lately who say they will pay upfront and don’t. I’ll never believe that again. Keep up the great videos!
From a seller standpoint, it seems like such an easy fix. Just require payment. OR, leave my item available so someone else could purchase it while the buyer gets their funds together.
Thanks for the tutorial! Really appreciate the knowledge that you’re sharing with new ebay sellers like myself. Your videos are really informative and interesting to watch and you seem like a genuinely nice guy!
Thank you for this video Scott! If there’s already an option to require immediate payment, why is this topic constantly brought up in Facebook groups? They’re saying eBay doesn’t have a way in place to make buyers that accept offers pay.
Immediate payment is still only an option if the item is bought outright. If it's an auction, an offer was sent out and accepted or if an offer was received by the seller and accepted...immediate isn't required.
Thank you so much for this. Im in England and i have been a private ebayer for around 13 years. Ive never had any major issues with people not paying, but recently in the last two months, ive experienced it so much! Its wild. I mustve had it happen 6 times in two weeks. Currently experiencing this with a repeat offender who purchased an eyeshadow palette off me just over two weeks ago, didnt pay, even after countless reminders. I was simply ghosted. I relisted the item, and i notice that theyve won the same item again, and now im sat here awaiting for payment again and with no response to my messages. I just cannot understand it all. Your video has been a God send as i havent really noticed the sections you talk about so i'll give that a go. Thank you so much ❤
Great video. I recently had that happen to someone reselling. The person made an offer and it was excepted without thinking to look at the profile, turns out the individual made an ebay on January 6th 2023. Lol. They said they'll just have to sit and wait and be more proactive to look at buyer page next time. That's for the useful information. I don't understand why people buy and item they don't want to pay for. It's all apart of the process.
I'd like to tell you that this will 100% fix it, but it won't. But it should help. If it keeps even one of the non-paying buyers away, I'm happy with it.
I’m having to cancel at least 1/2 of my weekly sales bc of these people! But YES! I am Absolutely on board w being able to check what a person says about another seller. Bc that’s says EVERYTHING I need to know about that “buyer”.
When I get an offer I find acceptable, I don't accept it. Instead, I send the buyer a message. "You're in luck! Your item just went on sale for $x.xx!"This creates a sense of urgency as the favorable price is now available to everyone including other watchers. Do I care if someone else beats them to the punch? Not really.
Clearly you made this a while ago, but as a new reseller, and learning that all buyers are not willing to pay for what they bought, I am going thru and making sure I have these options selected for my store.
I blocked a few Aholes. Some make me an offer and then says he doesn't want to pay the shipping, so I said ok no problem I will take care of it "I'll take the hit". Well once he purchased the item I could not change the shipping fees, but I could refund him after he paid all the fees including shipping. He told me to figure it out, called ebay they said they could not do it, but I could give him a partial refund, but he did not want to budge. So I just gave him a full refund and and canceled his order. It was for a pair of hard to find Red Wing Boots. Anyways, Next day it sold for full price including shipping with instant payment. Good Stuff Thanks for sharing, Just subbed.
There just has to be a solution on eBay's end. There just has to be. You should be able to accept an offer and run an auction without wondering if it'll even get paid for. I think what I've shown here helps a little, but the solution is in eBay's hands.
@@TheChaChingKing Not sure if you know, but when I make an offer now, ebay asks me which credit card to select. Then if offer is accepted Credit Card is Automatically charged. Just like Offer Up does. So that's a good thing when people make offers and sellers accept, there is no backing out or making demands anymore, the buyer Automatically pays up.
Thank you for the tips. Over the past several months, about 40% of my sales have been canceled due to buyers not paying. It's getting very frustrating and I don't know why eBay is continuing to allow this.
Recently discovered your videos and I can say they are the most informative on how to sell on Ebay that I have ever seen. Subscribed and thumbs up for you!
Thank you so much. I'm still learning and trying to get better at these, too. The whole goal is to create videos that are truly helpful and encouraging.
Thank you 🙏 million times I’m new reseller with the help of your advices like this one. And yes it happened to me twice 😤😩and what upset me the most that had very high numbers of watchers and I lost that too by listing it for second time 😢.
Thank you this info is Amazing! in my first 7 items sold, i have had 1 not pay and 1 return.. Very discouraging! But after waching this video I feel so much better...
I'm debating putting offers to items $12 and above. Reason why I don't is there seems to be a huge benefit to store traffic so I just spam counter offer back until the buyer declines or stops offering a non profitable amount. Usually I'll write a sentence if they don't go up on their offer and offer the same thing again. Not sure what else I could do but I do know sending out offers is a boost to the account. When they spam back a low ball offer it honestly makes me hope that they don't buy it, what I'm trying to trigger is it jumping to the next interested buyer more quickly by sending offers on it, which has happened a lot. People paying full price after they wont accept my offer.
Thank you. Very informative and helpful video. I just had someone tie up an item for a week. I looked at the profile and there are feedback that showbthey have done it at least 3 other times. Now I know l can check feedback before accepting an offer. Thanks again. New subscriber
Awesome Video! Just had a deadbeat win an item I had on auction that had buyers remorse. Looked at the buyers past, and there were many negative comments on this buyer. Thank you for this video! New to Ebay and now know how to handle this situation because of your video.
Can you also do this on a personal account? I literally just started listing last week and wanted to see how it goes before paying for a seller account. Today had a best offer I accepted and they wanted me to call them. I replied via ebay messenger that that is against ebay's policy and all communication must be done withing Ebay messenger. No payment yet. I suspect it might be a scam. Anyways thanks for your tutorials! I already made 2 other sales and have 3 items that have bids in less than 10 days so I believe this might be a good side hustle. I am a public music teacher for 27 years and burnout. Not sure if I can make another 8 to retirement honestly. Love your channel!
Yes, the video I made was done from a personal account. So, it should work. And you are 100% correct in that the buyer isn't a real buyer. There's NO need for you to call a buyer to complete a sale....ever! It sounds like you are doing great!
this was really informative, i have been having probably the same guy send me offers and not make payment. everyday at the same time from 2 different accounts he would make the offer for the list price, not a cent less, and then not pay. I get zipcodes exactly the same on all those IDs. really stupid that ebay can't stop it despite me reporting it several times.
Had this happen to me. Found out the buyer was selling the same type of item. Tied up mine so they could try to sell theirs at a higher price. Dirty tricks on eBay. I went to report them and their low follower account was gone. :( Thank you so much for these videos and for the encouragement. My husband and I started our account 4 months ago. It's slow going right now, but when we can find the time to invest, we're hoping to make a little extra this year.
Thanks for making relevant content for the new users. Currently have a non-payment person asking me to hold the item past the due date. Thanks to you I'm on to his scam.
The biggest issue with holding it past the due date is that your account gets a ding for it. eBay will normally take that off. But, I had one time that they wouldn't even though I could show them the email asking me to wait.
Love your videos and your helping people more than you know. Because of you and your videos I just began listing items for sale. So I have my very first sale and have a issue that I can't find a answer to and eBay is useless. I accepted a lower offer that I received but when the buyer goes to pay for it the item is still priced on my original post. Do I need to go back in and change the amount to his lower offer that I accepted? Thanks again Sir!
I use Mercari and Poshmark where any accepted offer is binding, so sometimes I wonder if certain buyers who come from there don't realize that Ebay (and Vinted) requires an extra action to pay. So what I do on Ebay & Vinted after I accept an offer is I send a message "Thank you very much! It will be shipped within 1 business day after the payment is made" or something along those lines. It hasn't failed me yet!
I have had my ebay account since 1997. Got back in to full time the past few years. 500+ sales a month (lots of books and video media). Always dealing with a claims case, most vexatious or erroneous. I never bounced around ebay settings like that. I just set 2 cases in 12 months. Anyhow, is there a setting to block buyers who have left XYZ negative feedback with the same parameters? First time viewer and already you are super awesome helpful.
Sorry for the slow reply, I was away for a few days. No, there isn't a way to block buyers who leave an inordinate amount of negative feedback. I wish there was. I understand it from eBay's perspective. They don't want to discourage buyers from leaving negative feedback if it's warranted. I'm sure it's a fine line. As a seller, I'd absolutely LOVE that.
What about the other side of the coin? when the buyer orders something in good faith, but turns up not as described,or damaged, but it then proves very difficult to contact either ebay or sellers concerned. This also gets ebay a terrible reputation. Remember, reputations are hard won, but easily lost.
Yes, I created an entire video dedicated to the scams that buyers face on eBay and what responsible sellers can do to help. Make sure to watch it as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YiMIA9U31H8.html
Scot your videos are so helpful and I am learning so much. I am sure I will avoid some "roadblocks" in my Ebay journey! I have been doing Etsy for a few years with very few sales ( in my opinion). I hand make leather goods and was never sure if I could sell them on Ebay as well. Im thinking if I am on both platforms maybe casting a wider net may help increase my sales. Anyway thanks for your videos they help a lot. However I need to quit watching videos, and get to work making stuff !! haha!
@@TheChaChingKing Yes sir, wallets belts, just a few small purses, knife sheaths, leather tote bags... you get the idea ! I never knew I could sell these on ebay. I thought it all had to be used or resale items. I never spent much time on ebay until a few months ago. I guess I am not correct ! Good lesson learned maybe !
Hey Scott, really enjoy your videos, I can see how you easily translated your school teacher skills to teaching on RU-vid. You do a great job, explaining everything in a simple and thorough way, I really appreciate it, yes, I am new at selling on eBay and I’m having a lot of fun with it so far I haven’t had any real problems, but I do have a question, I basically use my smart phone for my postings, checking my sales etc.. by doing this, am I missing out on some features and things by not using the computer? also, I do not use the eBay hub, I’m a little intimidated to try it. It just seems a little complicated to me, same question, am I missing out on some features and benefits, by not using the eBay hub? Anyway, thanks so much for your videos. Keep them going. Your friend, Scott (we have a great name)
My name only has one T (we were very poor). Scot. :-) So, we aren't quite twins. When you list from your phone, there are a few things that are harder or impossible to do. It is really hard right now to add some of the shipping choices on your phone. Standard shipping 1-10 days usually isn't even an option. The analytics are harder to see. You can't see the feedback a buyer leaves at all if they send you an offer. So, there's a few things you miss when you only use a phone. But you can build your business around a smartphone and still have access to almost everything.
TOS says they have 4 business days to pay so when that's up and they didn't pay I cancel and leave negative feedback. But I never knew about this so I'll try it.
