That part about the blessing of the children on Shabbat, I've heard something more about the choice of Efraim and Menashe as the examples we want our boys to keep, relating specifically to the matter of Machloket. What I heard is that Menashe the Bechor among the two brothers, upon receiving Saba Yaakov's lesser hand and blessing, could have protested himself, like his father Yosef did, or simply become angry and jealous of his younger brother Efraim who 'should' have received the left hand. Instead he made peace with the matter, said nothing, and continued to be close with his brother like before. In fact, this is the first instance in Tanach where we hear of siblings faced with the challenge of jealously between them, remaining peaceful and good friends. It predates the famous surprisingly loving tie between Moshe Rabbeinu who was chosen as the leader of the Jewish nation, over his older brother Aharon HaCohen, who could have been angered by this. I try to have this in mind as well, wherever I bless our son on Shabbat, may God make you like Efraim and Menashe - may you be able to overcome the temptation of sibling rivalry and jealousy in general. By the way, there is a slight hint to the same intention when we bless our daughters to be like Rachel and Leah specifically, regarding the sacrifice Rachel did to make certain her sister Leah would not be embarrassed, when their father Lavan switched the two at the wedding night.
