Mechanical watches are the real engineering products. The precision engineering of these tiny components which work together for decades astonishes me. Salutation to the the watch makers who combine art with their engineering skills.
Tissot Chemin des Tourelles Automatic 80 owner here...👌👍 Own it for three years now and still in love with it! Best watch I've ever owned and better than my other Omega and Maurice Lacroix watches.

Depends which model you have but this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Single-Dome-Sapphire-Watch-Crystal-30mm-x-1-5mm-fits-SNK-series/324264460663?hash=item4b7fab0177:g:z5UAAOSw9G1fOpP1 mentions a few that it will fit .
@@philspencelayh5464 It,s true, they have some sapphire crystal but only on high-end models like Pressage, Astron etc, but still very reliable brand watch ⌚, I trust them!
I have found someone on ebay selling sapphire crystals pretty cheaply, I intend to try one in one of my old Seiko 5's to see how it works out, could be perfect
Tissot is such an amazing brand, as a Tissot owner I can say that you get much more than you pay for. (Speaking for Le Chemin Des Tourelles Squelette.)
Got my first Tissot yesterday. Ballade Powermatic 80 COSC. While I was at the store, another caught my eye - Gentleman Powermatic 80. I'll be back for that one soon.
I cannot believed my sister gave me a Tissot powermatic 80 without COSC watch from my sister service 15 years in Honda company was very accurate! I have tested the watch from computer clock was running a day within +6/-4 second and even better that have passed COSC! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VH1qOz4kS2o.html
@@mattw7796 Beutiful watch, simple, high quality and I have been wearing it now for a while, running great. I ordered the the blue with the rubber strap, very comfortable on my wrist

I own Rolex, Omega, Raymond Weil & Glycine watches but when I saw the Tissot Seastar 1000 with the Powermatic 80 movement, I was really impressed and fell in love with it. I hope I get one soon. Tissot has really done a great job in modifying a normal rigid movement into a great movement worthy of appreciation and admiration. In addition to the amazing movement, the Seamaster 1000 has a ceramic bezel and a gorgeous rubber band. I think Tissot are back on the road to greatness once again. Best wishes 👍.
Ismael Bonal I just bought a seastar 1000. I have to say that it is an amazing watch and to be honest the real watch looks even better than it looks in the photograph. Even the staff in the jewellery shop spoke highly of this watch. Looks so nice on my wrist right now. And it’s pretty accurate.
I love my Tissot 1000 Seastar! I love this movement and power reserve. Love everything about the piece. In fact my only negative about it is the 21mm lug / band width. Please consider changing to 22mm for your next model version.
I just bought a tissot prs 516 blue waiting for its arrival… man with sapphire crystal, AR coating, a robust and an accurate movement like powermatic 80 and metal bracelet in$ 658 is a total steal….. always considering the overpriced seiko watches..
Tissot is the best I have ever seen I have the prc200 automatic chronograph, with leather strap, a fine piece for sure, where are my prc 200 club?? Anyone??

Thank you very much for the video that shows how does mechanical clocks and watches work. In quartz clocks and watches first wheel of the gear train is regulated by peizo electric motor (lavet stepping motor or smooth sweeping motor) that is powered by tuning fork shaped quartz crystal resonator that receives power from 1.5 V battery and vibrates at the frequency of 32,768 Hz and regulates the series of gears that drives the motion work to drive the hands that points seconds, minutes and hours. In mechanical clocks the spring barrel or weight pulley (cable barrel) drives the first wheel of the going train to activate the escapement the pushes the balance wheel or pendulum forward every time it returns backwards and drives the motion work of the clock to make the hands of the clock to point the hours minutes and seconds. This is the main difference between quartz clocks and mechanical clocks. Motion work is direct of the going train in some clocks and motion work is not direct part but connected to going train in some clocks in case of mechanical clocks. In quartz clocks the motion work is almost always direct part of the going train and either the mainspring barrel or weight pulley is not necessary because there is no spring driven oscillator (pendulum nor balance wheel) to drive the gear train. Thus the spring driven oscillator and escapement are replaced by quartz crystal powered peizo electric motor to drive the gear train in quartz clock.
@@HelderAC The Powermatic 80 is just a name for the modified ETA movement which is inside. There are different serial numbers for this movement which indicate slight differences (if any). If they are the "same", then the COSC certified has been tested to a degree which is compliant with the COSC certification. Thus it guarantees the movements to be exact to the COSC specifications. I think Tissot gives a longer warranty to their COSC watches but I am not sure.
@@destryo3287 Thanks for your answer. So if I understand correctly, being that the movements in both watches should practically be the same this would mean that even if the gentleman is not COSC certified but the balade is, they should be pretty close from an accuracy point of view, which is what ultimately matters. Correct?
Got a couple of those beauties, the seastar and the PRC 200 ... out of curiosity, for the automatic power reserve, the rotor needs to rotate clockwise or anticlockwise? Thanks 🙏🏻
@@robdavis1248 definitively yes, it is a absolute must have in reality, wath ever the strap ( full steel seems to be more durable question of strap) but the Mouvement of the powermatic 80 cosc silicon is so accurate in long term that you gonne be amazed for real 😉 don't forget that the other brands with the same specs are much more expensive also.. Question of brand.. Go fit it! 👍
I have just got the 60th anniversary DS-1 Big Date with the green dial and mesh strap. It's a lovely watch and the Swiss movement with 80-hours power reserve is part of its attraction. Am I correct in thinking it is not COSC certified?
Dear Kevin, you have indeed a beautiful watch with the MOUVEMENT POWERMATIC 80.651 H2/6H (NIVACHRON), but this movement is not COSC certified. Thanks, Tissot team.
I love my solar quartz watches, but there will always be that certain fascination with mechanical movements. It’s a more romantic watch, if generally less accurate. Enter the Spring Drive 😇
I noticed in the animation that the pallets were jeweld, however in disassemblies I've seen that the escapement is all synthetic/plastic, similar to the sistem51. Are there different versions of the Powermatic 80 or is this animation based on a different movement?
The caliber "Powermatic 80" used by Tissot is an upgrade of ETA 2824. The first Powermatic had 23 jewels due to using fork and escape wheel made of composite or "plastic". After that, Tissot went back to 25 jewels using metal fork and escape wheel. Also Hamilton use same 25 jewels caliber. Both calibers have free balance spring, regulated by laser. There isn't anymore the manual regulator.
I asked myself the same thing... I could imagine (1.) that there is a mechanism preventing the rotor from turning in the wrong direction, releasing tension of the mainspring or (2.) a mechanism which allows the rotor to turn in the wrong direction but without influencing the mainspring (i.e. a gearwheel with skewed teeth)
For older watches from the mid 1900s they would wind in 1 direction. Newer watches now have a pretty neat mechanism that allows for winding in either direction
I've spent ages on the internet and youtube trying to find out how the reversing wheels in the winding mechanism works, with no result. Can somebody please explain how it it possible that de winding wheel spins in one way no mather on which way the rotor turns? Well appreciated!
Does anybody know if the first powermatic 80 movement from 6 years ago has the silicon balance spring? I have that movement and the inscription on the back says high tech escapement instead of silicon balance spring like this one. When I bought it Tissot didn’t reveal details about the movement but watch sites and reviewers always thought it had the silicon balance wheel and therefore resistant to magnetism. Just curious, my watch is still working perfectly after 6 years and no service yet.
@@michaelriera6277 They wont! All silicon balance version models indicate on the dial and come at a price premium. They will not upgrade during service!
I have a Tissot Luxury Chronometer. Are all of the silicium movements COSC certified? Or only the ones that state "chronometer" on the dial? I think I'm getting a Tissot Gentleman in blue as a daily wear. I just need to go somewhere to see it in person.
@@tissot I went to an AD and had them order the blue Gentleman. I love it. I think it is so well made and the best value and quality for its price point.
